Xbox Series X|S - OFFICIAL News!

  Honda. Tesla Someday
I've been enjoying watch dogs but the saving issue is very frustrating, I wish I could return the game as it's essentially unplayable at this point.

Then COD crashes my console every time I boot it. Apparently I've got the XBOX One X version of the game and need the Series X version but I download the game on my console so not entirely sure? Someone told me I've got to buy the game again and buy the "cross gen bundle" of the game but I'm paying another £64.99 on top of the £59.99 I originally paid! Nightmare

Rough!

Ok I did some googling and it turns out that the developers decided NOT to take advantage of “Xbox Smart Delivery”... because “Corporate GREED”.

If I were you, I would contact Microsoft and explain the situation and see if they can sort something out.

Ah, sorry mate - my bad!

The Series X devkit is quite different to the retail unit and looks very much like the One X (or something you'd stack up in your hi-fi separates!) It has a fair few differences to the retail unit, obviously mainly related to the task of developing, debugging and testing software on it. I didn't have much hands-on time with it as the work I was tasked with was largely done through a PC development environment, although a lot of that work was indeed designed to target the Series S/X. As you can probably imagine there's a lot of crossover between PC and Xbox as their architectures, in some ways, continue to get closer to each other. That said, there are the usual extensions and platform specific functions that are purely exclusive to Series X. I'm not actually sure what the deal is in terms of NDA and talking about specifics (as I am not working on that project now) but there's nothing out of the ordinary really - just a much improved feature set and what is actually a very, very nice piece of hardware. The same can be said of the PS5. Both consoles really are excellent in their own right in terms of engineering. I'm still amazed they were able to launch at the price they have come to market - definitely looking to make the money on the software sales!

Hi dude,

Been doing a lot of reading recently and it turns out (according to sources in the industry) that the Xbox Series Dev Kits were “late” - due to Microsoft waiting on the full RDNA2 feature set from AMD. This meant that developers were unable to optimise fully for Xbox Series versions of games, and instead had to rush and port games, then allow the horsepower of the Series X to make up the difference in performance. This is the jist of what is being said online from certain developers.

It also turns out (apparently, according to sources) that even games like Gears 5 which Are “optimised” for Xbox Series consoles are still NOT using the RDNA2 feature set - like DirectML or VRS etc.

So the general consensus is that games will receive a patch to further improve performance (now that devs can sink their teeth in to the development kits) AND games in the coming months will be quite eye opening and will finally showcase games that do actually take advantage of the hardware. Apparently the games aren’t even taking advantage of Velocity yet due to Microsoft waiting on AMD/delayed dev kits.

I don’t know how much you can advise - but I honestly don’t know who else to ask lol! I though’t I’d pick your brain though, so thank you for any knowledge you can bestow on us!!

Sorry for any typos... its almost 6am! I am such a freak lol

Edit: A quote showing what’s being said in general:

“Microsoft changed their software environment (XDK–>GDK). Microsoft had to wait for AMD to nail down how they were implementing DX12U features. before adding those features into their own API’s”.

Mines crashing when playing COD CW too. The box completely shuts down and I have to power off at the plug in order to reset.

All I’m trying to do is play the campaign!
Googled it, and the web reckons it’s the wrong gen downloaded, but I can’t see how that’s possible given I bought the correct gen disc.

Another annoying thing is that if I click to play Warzone through CW, I then have to put the MW disc back in.

Been spending way too much time on touryst recently. Trying to get high score on the retro arcade is a b**ch!

It's an awesome game, I've completed a lot of it but I still don't have the highscores and I'm stuck on the boss where you have to collect the block from his head in the molten lava thing. I tried again yesterday but there's genuine risk of controller<>TV contact so I had to stop.

Any tips of who is likely to get stock first?

One X is definitely dead now, Hdmi problems so constant black screen of death flickers [emoji849]

There are some awesome deals to be had for Black Friday on the Xbox Store!! Anyone getting anything? Watchdogs Legion is £38.99 and the Tony Hawks 1+2 Remaster is £29.99.

I am VERY tempted!!

(Note: The physical “Limited Edition” for Watchdogs Legion is £35.99 on Amazon UK)

I had similar issue at Asda, they had no idea there were 2 different versions. Very nearly bought the standard edition.

The boxing isn’t very clear either, small series x logo on the next gen box.

If it said £9.99 to upgrade or something I'd be happy, but saying I need to buy the game is ridiculous. Best of it, I pre-ordered the game on my Series x console... You'd think it would say somewhere obvious telling me it's not specific to my console. Majorly disappointed.

There's truth in those rumours unfortunately. I know of at least one development studio that only received their kit about 3 months ago, which has impacted on the development of their project. I'm not going into names and details as it isn't my place to do so and I don't want to jeopardise any potential future work! LOL! :p

I'm reluctant to say too much more as the effort from Microsoft, AMD and developers (and Sony with their PS5) has been commendable. It's easy to criticise but knowing what has gone into making the launches of these consoles possible (and actually having some titles to play, even if not yet taking advantage of all the new hardware) I think the future looks good for console gamers.

Most existing games [early-on] will simply be relying on a few simple tweaks and updates to improve their looks and performance on the new console. In fact, many will just rely on the increase in raw performance of the CPU and GPU. The main issue, as is often the case, is one of time and resources - which are often limited in this line of business. It is not necessarily trivial to go back into the codebase of an existing game and to enable these new features. Depending on the way the game is architected it may need a ground-up refactor. It's not simply a case of flicking a switch to enable a feature unfortunately. Are publishers (and those that fund the developers) willing to spend significant money on revisiting existing titles in an effort to shoehorn in the new features? Likely not in most cases as new projects will already be underway and that's where the money will be spent. Personally I would love to see some of my favourite existing games overhauled to take advantage of the new tech, but I can't see it happening. There's a big difference between replacing a game's assets with a higher resolution 4K texture pack and rewriting that game to overhaul the engine to take advantage of an improved rendering pipeline and faster content delivery architectures.

With APIs now in a much more feature-complete state we will no doubt start to see these new features leveraged in upcoming titles. It's hard to say to what level and when, though - writing a game is such a complex thing to do. With games costing millions to make these days, involving teams of hundreds of people in some cases, and having been in development for potentially a number of years already, you can't always just drop what you have to factor in new 'stuff'. There's obviously a risk to doing that. We - as gamers - need to exercise a little patience sometimes. Again, I'm not going into detail but suffice to say that a good number of development studios are only now seeing finalised APIs and have only recently got their hands on actual working kit. No matter how talented said development studios may be, they will need time to familiarise, understand, digest and experiment with what's available - and then figure out how to best use it in their games (whether that does involve revisiting older games to overhaul them or, more likely, in the development of forthcoming games).

As @DeeKay86 said get onto Microsoft, I bet they will sort you out as a gesture of good will. There must be a large amount of people in the same boat.

Ahhhh typical Ubisoft lol!

I Might still buy it in the hope the patch arrives soon, as it’s a good price! I just want to walk around London and have a laugh on it tbh lol

i bought my watchdogs off Amazon and I’m trying to get it refunded!

shocking that Ubisoft have released such a broken game, and as of yet haven’t announced they’re aware of the fix or have they fixed it after so many days!! The official complaint thread on Ubisoft forums has had a new complaint every 15 mins or so, every day since release lol!

Jeez maybe I shouldn’t buy it lol! According to Reddit Ubisoft has said that a fix will be issued but in December?!

Thank you for that dude, I appreciate it.

Someone leaked this online too which shows that the Xbox GDK was delayed due to Microsoft waiting as they wanted Full RDNA2 for the Xbox Series consoles (see attached image). It shows that the it was finally ready just recently in June 2020.

I am expecting great things from devs now that they have the tools they need - I know it takes time though lol!

Got to say COD is continuing to f**k with my Xbox, could be a common thing across platforms but seems (from google) to be Xbox Series related.

Tonight I sampled campaign mode, and in several situations I dropped down to about 10fps at a guess, really juddery. In one particular section if I looked at a helicopter it would crash the game. I literally had to restart and try again about 4 times before I could get through!

Then there’s the weird lighting errors. First noticed it in zombies mode, which is where it seems to happen the most. It’s as if the HDR is having a spaz, it goes from night to day on the lighting very quickly. Like a flash, it flickers across the ground textures.

Anyway so far my PS5 is fine... uh oh, could I convert? (Side note I haven’t used my PS5 for anything other than the tech demo platformer!)

Yup - that pretty much sums things up. The platform was being talked about years ago, designed over many years, and only found its way into the hands of many developers very recently (in a finalised form). :)

Mines exactly the same. It started freezing at a part of the campaign early on, but i was able to get around it. Now stuck at the next part of the campaign where it's the only path to get where i need to go.
It does the same thing with the lighting too.

Absolute joke. How can they release a game that's clearly not fit for purpose, then make people wait a month for a fix?

Whats worrying me more is these are all Xbox specific, not cross platform issues.

A little off topic, but this was video was bounced around work at the start of the year, and it's a really interesting insight into games development back in the day (we're in the embedded automotive sector, so it's still relevant to us now).

This was properly interesting !!

Nothing techy, just solid info anyone could understand, presented really well.

I've always loved the Crash games mind

My internet is still properly shite on Warzone, same as @dann2707 described. Trying to follow a guide for port forwarding and stuck at the first part, very confusing.

I changed my settings on the xbox, turned off the fast power on or whatever its called and its improved, but still lagging.

Nope, no printer. Only things on wifi are two phones, 3 alexa dots, xbox.

It sounds like you haven't done the port forwarding mate. It's genuinely a lot easier than it sounds and I am a proper virgin when it comes to it and s**t

When you're playing do you get those 3 yellow squares on the screen to the left? Really small ones in the centre of the scree to the left

Exactly what I was having mate.

If you Google "how to port forward call of duty xbox" there should be lots of details on it.

This looks good
Is it an xbox series one? Do you have my WhatsApp? Are you on the Cs group chat?
