So no3 is now in my possession, instead of carrying on Jim's thread I'll start a new one to document its progress and to keep the maintenance up to date.
I decided to buy another cup to keep me happy through the summer a good few weeks ago and a nice car came up at the right time in the shape of @leeds_182 cup which most will know by now on here. It was registered as a cat D in 2010 which was only found when a potential buyer HPI'd the car. I did some digging and everything seemed kosher with the car so I put in an offer and the deal was agreed and deposit payed, I knew the damage would only be minor but more on that later.
So I set off on Thursday morning with the missus on the train from Aberdeen down to Selby in Leeds to get the car, we finally got there around 4pm after a few delays with the trains but never mind we were there after a short taxi to Jim's. I had asked all the questions you do when buying previously so I was 90% the car was as described, I had a quick look around and test drive. Very happy with the condition the money was handed over, I drove to the post office quickly to get some tax and then back to Jim's for the V5 to be signed off, all went well and we were on our way over to Helmsley on the Yorkshire Moors to stay for a few nights.
I had planned a journey for the way home that took us over the moors as I had never driven them before, we set off at 11am after quite a heavy night. The route was Helmsley to Pickering on the A170, left onto the A169 towards Goathland, onto Key Green and Eghton and then finally on the A171 to Middlesbrough. Roads were great and the weather was fair, definitely worth the detour and I'll be back down that neck of the woods in the future. We finally arrived back in Aberdeen totally shattered at 5:30pm after a couple of stops in Edinburgh. The car never missed a beat and I clocked up nearly 550 miles over the 3 days averaging 30mpg calculated, not bad I thought.
Standard crossing the border pic
Anyway back to the car, the spec is:
Engine;
Jenvey itbs with gen90 ecu mapped by rs tuning
Catcam 428 cams
182 manifold
Decat
BTB stealth exhaust
Suspension;
Spax RSX coilovers
Polybushed front end
Polybushed dog bone
Vibra technics engine mount
Suspension fully set up for fast road by track torque in April 2013
Interior;
New pioneer head unit with iPod connection
Uprated front speakers
New black headliner
OMP deep dish wheel
Brakes;
new rear genuine pads and discs
new oem front discs with ds2500 pads
wheels and tyres;
15" speedline 2118s in mint condition
Toyo r1r's on the front
Nankang NS-R 2's on the rear
None of the following is needed really but I'm fussy and like to strip a new car right down so I know where it stands and then you can maintain it easier from then on.
So future plans;
Engine
Do the timing belt, it was done in 2012 but no receipt. I have one on the shelf so why not.
While the belts off I'll have a look to see exactly what cams are fitted, the BHP isn't quite what it should be and it isn't unheard of for Cat Cams to send the wrong cams so we'll see.
The cam cover, thermostat housing, engine mount and gearbox mount will get blasted and painted up. I'll change the coolant while doing that.
The dephaser solenoid seal needs replacing too.
Slam panel end pieces will be getting painted in mondial to tidy up the bay also.
I will do the Burpspped mod to the gear linkage.
Fit a breather tank as I'm not keen on having a filter on the end of the breather pipe, it gets messy and the Pipercross filters with age have been known not to provide enough escape for the system.
The engine position and dog bone mount need looked at, 4th gear selection inst the best when hooning and coming down the box, it just needs a little position tweek.
Tidy up some of the engine loom and p-clip some looms and hoses out of the way.
Suspension
The coilovers will be coming off to be stripped, cleaned and freed up ready for a more aggressive geo and height change for my upcoming track day.
All suspension consumables will be replaced as necessary.
RARB will be going on.
Brakes
Full strip down front and back, paint the callipers, de glazing the pads as they some how got glazed on the Yorkshire moors
Interior
Get the front seats out, fab up some extra low subframes and mount my Corbeau Revenge's and Sabelt Cup racer harnesses.
Wet vac the rear bench and carpets
Do the Burpspeed mod on the gear linkage
Clean the steering wheel so it resembles alacantra again
Exterior
Machine the headlights as there is some crazing and tidy up all the wiring for the HID ballasts.
When the spring comes along I'll do a full machine and detail.
I have a track day booked on the 1st of March so 90% of that list will be done before then. Today we had lovely weather up here so I set about valeting the car and just a general tidy up.
The car as it stood after its journey to its new home.
Boot sticker removed, not to my taste.
A mate thought he would be funny
Engine
After a wash, hoover and the engine jet washed (CS meltdown material)
Sausage filter cleaned and re oiled
The damage that made it a cat d, very small kink in the boot which is minor, I'll strip it all down and paint the bare metal to seal it off.
No other damage to be seen.
All the standard parts came with the car too including the mapped standard ecu for when it just had the cams so it will change back to standard in a day, I think this will happen after the summer (sorry Jim ) but it wont be broken into pieces and scrapped, it will live on just in a lower spec.
Updates will be coming in the next few days as I cross all the jobs off the list, sorry about the pic heavy nature.
