Hello mate, I've had an Ashley twin 3" on my 172 for about a month. I LOVE IT.... My wife HATES IT.... Sounds the absolute bollox - Really burbeley around town - boot it and you won't stop grinning. BUY ONE!!!

my old 2004 1.2 16v did that. mate of mine said it was due to the electronic throttle thing. I wasn't convinced - would put my boot through the floor.... wait... then something would happen. I didn't have the spluttery exhaust though so Im probably talking poo...

^looks like it could be. got mine straight from Ashley. google them. mine was 135 plus 10 p&p. really burbles on tickover. not too loud when driving like an old man, but give it some beans and you'll be deaf within a month...

Just fitted my Ashley Competition Exhaust to my 2003 FF172. Its LOUD - really LOUD!

Had it fitted this morning. Sounds awesome!!!! Really burbley on tickover and raspy at full revs. The twin 3 inch s/s pipes look good - and was a piece of cake to fit. Need to get a new rear rubber from ktec to move it up a bit, but other than that - I love it. BUY ONE!

doesn't have to be too expensive to fix - got an ashley competition exhaust being tomorrow - only 145 inc delivery. will let you know what its like - my rattle drove me nuts, once you have it, it'll only get worse!

its your baffles - centre section always does this - the pipe inside snaps and rattles at its natural resinence (cant spell) - which is usually at about 4k... getting my new cat back fitted tomorrow.

kully - you got an ashley back box? the system i'm getting only has one silencer (the back box).. is yours loud all the time?

that sound like the same 4k rattle as on mine. its the center section of the exhaust. mechanic told me that its caused by the baffles inside the silencer rusting and snapping. i've just ordered a full ashley competition exhaust for my 2003 172 - 145 big ones inc delivery..!

after initially posting this thread i've had a change of heart. i'm keepng the 172! the elise rocks but for the extra bit of pace (and total lack of practicality) i dont think its worth changing my immaculate 172 for a slightly tatty 8 year old racer. maybe next year i'll upgrade to a 111R or a...

blue172 - you've convinced me. I drove my mates elise from Winchester to Chichister last year and have wanted one ever since. The feeling of rear wheel drive is awesome - much better than even the best front wheel drive car (more fun than 4x4 too)..

I really don't want to sell my 172. only had it 8 months and love it to bits, but the urge of getting an Elise keeps coming back - wanted one before I got the 172 but went for the sensible option...

Thinking of changing my 2003 172 for a Series 1 Lotus Elise.. I've driven an Elise and thought it was awesome - but how much more awesome 0-06 and 0-100 is it than a slightly modified 172??

Don't listen to him fella - the PI springs are great. Got them fitted to my PHII 172 and the difference in handling as awesome. They sould lower the front by 25mm and the rear 15mm. For the price YOU CAN NOT GO WRONG - unless you've bought the wrong ones like you probably have... Some pics of mine

changed them back - they are now iceberg silver. they looked aresome for a bit then got boring and 'boy racer ish' really quickly. i'm sticking with the standard colour!

just ordered four yoko 539's for my 172. only 43 pound each from halfords! bargain!! having them fitted in the week. should be better than my yoko 306 and conti mix...

do them yourself!!!! mine cost me under 30 quid for all four...

Looks ace mate.!! I did the same to my 'Firestones' a few years ago on my MkII black 3.0 Ford Capri. Might be tempted to do the same when i get some new boots....

hello mate. are you any good with your hands? i managed to port, polish and match my upper and lower manifolds in the space of a day. the hardest job was working out how to get the bugger off in the first place. buy yourself a multitool thing from halfords and a couple of dremil grinding...

got the paint from halfords. its rover gun metal grey. use grey primer first. i used fine grade wet and dry to give the primer a key and to get rid of the lumps and bumps. then add a couple of coats of primer and allow to dry. flat it back and add a couple of coats of colour. i need to have a...
