Clio 197 Cup (Racing Blue).

Welcome to my Clio 197 Cup project, I hunted hi and low over the last few weeks for a clean & standard low mileage example, finally picked it up today with 40K miles.
So the plan is to strip, and clean all areas and bring it back to it's former glory utilising current parts where possible, and some personal improvements here and there.

For starters here is the car home Sunday afternoon in June 2014, absolutely love it!! Will update the thread as and when.

Just had it's 40k mile service by TwoTechs in Dartford, Terry the owner is a thoroughly nice guy and certainly know's his stuff regarding Renault's.

Rear light clusters removed to switch over the indicator bulbs for some fresh Silvertec bulbs, whilst the light housing's were off the area behind was given a thorough clean.

There is a noticeable vibration through the pedals and steering wheel, but this will settle down after some miles, but the response from the drive is definately worthwhile.

A few bits and bobs done over a couple of hours in the evenings.

Decided on a colour change for the interior trims again, got some alcantara trim bits being added in the near future, so wanted the trims to match colour wise, also match the alloys well and some exterior colour coding thats planned.

Graphite metallic.

Finally got some time to tackle the machine polishing, the hardest paint I've polished in the last 12 years by far.. took 20 hours to work my round 2/3rds of the car, the final 3rd will have to wait till time permits.

Door trims removed to clean behind and get a tighter polishing set.

Excellent work/mods. given me some ideas. As your exterior trim is now mostly black, have you thought about some Renault diamond covers in black, could look good against that blue?

Cheers guys, thanks for the comments.

Great read! Keep up the good work

Good write up and love what youve done with the car Really clean and suttle.

Thanks and I may change the diamonds (trying to keep it relatively stock looking), probably tape them up first to get an idea, but I will possibly be changing the mirror caps and handles to anthracite.

That looks excellent mate, im not sure if im keen on the exhaust tips tho.

Thanks mate, I wasnt keen at first as you can see earlier on in the thread when i ripped the old ones off, unfortunately though the standard pipes look a bit lost and I'm not changing the exhaust to an aftermarket. The tips do like quite subtle in the flesh, I have tried to keep them hidden as best as possible so its only visible from the back.

Looking spot on mate! All I'd change is the doorstrips!

I'm possibly changing the mirror caps and handles to an anthracite colour to match the alloys, undecided whether to do the door strips in anthracite, Racing blue or smooth black tbh.

I'd go RB mate, all colour coded! That's me personally. I'm sure it'll look awesome with whatever you do!

Great project. Really need to do something like this to mine as it'd begining to look a little tired with the amount of abuse i give it.

Top work

Good plans for anthracite mirrors and handles.

I wouldn't do the diamonds though to keep it looking oem.

Do you have any more shots of it from the back, front and some artsy angles to show off the stance on spacers and standard springs? I quite fancy spacers but I'm not sure how it'll looks without springs

I'll take some tomorrow for you and post them up.
I wasn't sure how it would look on the Cup springs, but happy now and don't think I'll drop the height.

Stunning work, photographs and thread..! I wish I had the time and facilities to be able to do the paintwork you've done and machine polishing work / lighting etc

Jealous! Cars like this shouldn't be driven!

Thanks mate, the facilities are good, it's the time I struggle with, most of the work carried out has been done into the evening or grabbing a few hours on a Sunday.

Not much to announce, been really busy with work so any upgrades have been limited.

Wrapped the fog lights with a yellow tint to capture that old school Renault look.

Some Team Heko wind deflectors fitted, now I'm still undecided on these, I bought them more because I like the window open a little, and during the winter to stop the glass fogging up. So more a practical choice opposed to aesthetics.

Rear brakes to do next, and some new Fulda ZE914's for the front.
