Replacing ARB Bushes...

  BMW M135i
One of mine is shot and the noise is really starting to wind me up now so I want to change the ARB bushes. Now judging from how stiff the powerflux bush in my dogbone mount is I think i'll be better of using standard bushes unless anyone has tried the powerflex?

Had a quick look at the haynes book of lies and it looks to be a right pain in the arse to change them as the ARB has to be removed from the car and the bushes slid off the ends, makes sense but the procedure is rather long and involved to get it out (need to remove the downpipe for a start! <- no thanks).

Just wondering if theres an easier way of changing them in situe or an easier way of removing the ARB?

Don't know about the Powerflex bushes but the standard bushes have a cut in them so you don't need to remove the roll bar. It ain't the easy thing with standard parts don't fancy it much with Powerflex.
They will have some tips on what to use to soften them up a bit then what I did was clamp the bracket over them with mole grips.

ive got powerflex arb and wishbone bushes, not fitted yet so not much use to you, getting done now that the engines out, had them for months and keep putting them off because it seems like a c**t of a job!

powerflex bushes are good for stiffness but they squeek like mad in dry weather. they are easy to fit and good if you want a fit and forget item

You mean the ones going onto the wishbone?

Can do it in situ but a pain in the ass! Still easier than taking it all off!!

Nah the ones that clamp onto the chassis.

So you say they've got a cut in them so I can remove the arb clamp, take the bush off and then refit the new one with the ARB in situe?

Thats the bush that dialogys shows for my car, looks to be a split bush. Can anyone spread any light on it?

Well the noise comes from under the car rather than towards the wheel arch but i'll check them as well.

Well its more of a rubbery knock noise when I go over speed bumps or the like. If I go over one of those split bumps with the passenger wheel and the drivers wheel on the flat then the noise comes from the drivers side. I'm all out of ideas as to what it could be other than the ARB bushes.

No problems when turning.

i very much doubt its the inner ones, mine are fine after 90Kmiles and being lowered 100mm

i have however gone through 2 sets of outer ones (about £10 per side)

Hmm, makes me wonder if it is that tbh. Any ideas on what else could be causing it i'm 99.99999% sure its not the struts. Its on a 40mm Apex kit if it makes any difference.
