Is it just me or am i bring daft.....

does this car have a cam belt or is it just a timing belt?

I'd be its not a womans car who is the main driver.

not a bad price if the belts have been done but I'd bet they havn't so knokc a good bit off to do them plus coolent etc.

is it both this clio has or is it one or the other?
Not sure what you mean.

The car has an aux belt (should have two from memory) and a cambelt. The aux belt is quite easy to change the cambelt a bit of a big job and you need the right tools to do it.

im not that engine inclined lol

iv ben told the cam belt replacement can cost about £300 to renew because its a big job pulling out the bits to get to it.

How many after miles are you meant do before you change the cam belt?

Renault state 72/5 years whatevers sooner.

Personaly any longer than 60k and 4 years (whichevers sooner) I'd get it done they can break and there expensive to fit when they do.

Whta re you questioning if the belt needs changing?>

They dont have a timing and cam belt as by definition they are the same thing. They do have a Cambelt (thats the renault name for them but its the same as a timing belt) and a aux belt.

You won't miss the Aux belt there on the drivers side of the car on the engine of the engine running round pumps etc at the front of the engine. The cambelt under a sodrt of cover on the same side but it just runs up and down the engine block frem the crank to the head.

You need new tensioners and stuff the packs not cheap £100 or so. Then £20 or so for the aux belts.

thanks for your help Edde, much obliged.

what do you think of the car then at that price if the belts have been done?

i wouldnt let the belt put you off that much, a local garage changed my cambelt and water pump at 60k, for £250!

yeah, if you can get it for £3k seems a good price

My Cam belt has just gone after what is seemingly turning out to be one of the worst weeks of my life. I have a Clio Grande T reg petrol engine, any ideas how much this is likely to get fixed?

Err why not start a new topic.

Anyway the best option often is a second hand engine and get it fitted.
