Bargain 172 cup - at a stealers *faints*

Only £8995.00

The one in Basildon has a silver 04 reg silver cup in, with climate in it  for that price.

The rear turini was totally shot on it, the 172 door stickers were part missing on both sides & the car wasn't in the nicest condition at all.

Utter bargain imo. I'm off to part ex.
I might put a pic of later.

Forget 500 more for a 197 then you would be throwing your money away
U could do a lot better then a 197 for 8 G

lol 172's are worth about 4 or 5 grand

all depends if someone wants one bad enough, then they are worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Book price on my rallye was 900 quid but I managed to get over 3.5k for it, because it was rare, low mileage and mint - therefore quite desirable and worth more than book price.

Agreed that 8k + is harsh, but theres no way I would sell my mint 25k 53 Cup for much less than 6k (at present). Im sure they are quite rare in top cond with low miles.

From the sounds of it the car is a mess so 8995 sounds like dreamland.

Book prices don't work for rare stuff though like the Rallye or the V6 (Mk1 books at around £8k, realistically you still even now need £11k for a nice one - which is what I sold mine for). Cups are a bit more common so the book price it more realistic, but I agree, as a niche market minters command more cash - £6k for a mint, original 25k mile one is acheiveable I'd have thought. I'd want Climate an Recaros if I was buying for that price hehe ;)

totally agreed, but over the next few years i'm sure a few more cups will be written off, thrashed etc leaving only a few decent examples, meaning they will become rarer/harder to find in desirable cond.

The cup is the one to go for aswell in terms of a drivers car (no abs etc) I think making it again more desirable than a standard 172 or any other standard sports hatch.

I agree that to achieve over or around 6k (above the book - again dependant on which book, cap black book is industry fav) it would need to be pretty good. Anything above 6kish is pretty ridiculous.

I may have to sell mine soon anyway due to the fact that its costing me stupid money to run (petrol, ins, tax)

You wont get £6k in a month of sundays.

You can delude yourself with "rare" "best model" as much as you want but the sad reality is the value of them has plummeted recently.

Didn't someone on here recently pay £6.1k for a 172 Cup - albeit a slightly modded one? Or was it £5.1k? Guy that used to have a white 197 Cup who's user name totally escapes me? Had the Janspeed development exhaust and then sold it a few weeks after getting it put on?

  LY V6 with Recaros
Christ, we went there months ago and they had that! Not that they have much chance of selling it in that condition for that price!

In your opinion, which you are entitled to obviously.

As for deluded I'm certainly not that. Ive been in the motor trade since I was 16.

I will agree that prices are dropping, but thats just a fact of life and happens with 99% of vehicles.

Any how, the original point to the thread I believe is that 9k for a 172 cup is 'over priced' and pretty ridiculous.

Heh, take another 2 grand off an we'll talk :p

I hope they have it up so high because someone got one over on one of the salemen, convincing them it was rare and worth an £8k trade in value. I know this would never happen, but it'd be good if it did :)

Carshaft lol !! So true, they want all that money for the cars & I bet they are utter dogs, they'll probably break down within a few weeks too.
