Cage, paint and top mounts look great! Cage is hugely expensive tho! But top quality is pricey. But why no harness bar? Over £3000 and you'll still need to attach your harnesses to the floor!!

Can't that back bar be used as the harness bar? I will look at this with Matt when it goes to him.

If you mean the bar between the shocks, I think it's too far away to use, plus the X section will get in the way of the harness angle. Strange they haven't put on it though. Still looks epic though :D

cage looks VERY similar to the CC one in my pug (but my kit came with harness bars in the rear stays/X)..

having fitted it myself i can assure you the work involved is immense and when you take that into account there charges aren`t that high..

fingers crossed i get to have a look over it @ TDF next time i drop in to see Lord Faulks the pics lok great but my guess is its even better in the metal.. SUPERB work so far..

  172 Race Car
Can anyone tell me the rear stub axle tourque setting please? In the manual it says 17.5 Dnm which is 175nM but at that level there is a tight spot when I turn it? Feels too tight there!
Have you fitted the breaing spacer/splash shield behind it? And the right way around?

That was it jay. I had the shield nut side DOH. I put the shield concave side facing inwards and seems fine now. This is an issue when you take something off for the first time and then don't replace it for months.

Sounds painful and yet the pain is still to come when you keep hitting off things when you forget what you've done.

I see what you mean about the bar and am a bit pissed about that to be honest! I shall speak to them as what a ball ache if I now have to weld in an extra bar there. Wonder if I can get away with a clamp on bar/tube that I get fabricated?

Couple of questions guys.

1. Left hand engine mount goes through a square hole. Is there a special washer for that before you put the top nut on it or just an ordinary one of the right width?

2. Mt Sadev wheel came with no nuts and bolts. Any ideas where I can get some from with the right counter sink to them please?

You'll get the correct allen key, tapered head bolts and nylock nuts at Screwfix. I had the same problem.
Cheers,
Calum.

In fact PM me your address and I'll send you six down as I bought a packet of 50 and can't see me ever using them all.

Correct. The down side is that if it's too light it increases the risk/ease of stalling etc, not so much an issue in a race car though

  340i
I had my 172 flywheel skimmed, lightened and balanced when I fitted a new clutch kit... the engine seemed to rev a little more freely, but no issues as regards to stalling :)

  340i
Not that I noticed :)

I suppose you do loose a little engine breaking, less rotational mass... But I honestly didn't notice!

  Qashcow
Wouldn't have thought it makes enough difference to actually notice the stalling. I had it done on my saxo and didn't really notice the downside

Got to find some power from somewhere hey ;) I'm still amazed you're keeping the engine fully standard.

Now theres the thing. It was a strategic decision for this year so my car is NOT faster than Nick, Chris's or the two Jons! I agreed to this as for track days and getting our 6 sigs it would be more fun if we are all on equal (ish) terms. Of course my chassis, suspension and brakes have all had more money spent on them and I have done other bits and pieces too. As I said before I will develop a second engine over the winter that will be mega and keep this engine in the car so I never miss out on testing or a track day.

Now. Chris has just rang me as they are on a track day today and he has blown his third engine. This time the clutch decided to throw itself out the front of the gearbox, cut his loom, bust his block lugs, smashed the gearbox and starter motor and gone through his power steering pipes and then for good measure out the front of the rad!

He is NOT happy as you can imagine.

Is this a regular occurance as I am sure I read that before?

never heard of that one mate. Clutches shouldn't fly out ever :S Pics of that would be good. I bet it's a right mess. I've got a spare block/crank if he needs one. Needs boring out slightly though.

  Golf GTD Mk7
it will need boring out maybe to 83/84mm pistons. There are minor mark in the compression area from the inlet cam going. Wouldn't want much for it though mate. If it's something he might want i'll take some pics for him.

It must have fubard the GB housing also? New engine/box required? That's really bad that.
