Thats my idea of a Twingo. Put a 225 engine in it, and ill take it.

The only thing I would sell my 250engine 197 for, would be a tuned twingo, or maybe a 595 I have a soft spot for both of these cars.

I run 18 inch rims, 340mm disks, no wheel spacers, on my 197, specs... I haven't a clue.

My son ran a 220 for a while, and could not understand others complaints, as he had no trouble at all with it. Go look for yourself, If you are happy with it, then buy, and enjoy.

Ha Kids stuff, I drive from Thurso to the ring, around 17 hours, 2 days at the ring, drove straight back, another 17 hours. Would have been quicker, but the Tunnel had a delay. You kids are too soft these days!.

Check the earthing points. Disconnect the Battery for a few minutes. If you use the key fob, fit new battery. Let us know how you get on. I have had the same problem, but doing the above fixed it for me.

My 197 has. I removed the rear seats/seatbelts, leaving light on dash. Being very delicate, it was difficult to get good fit, so I used the ends of safety pins into the resistors to help with good contact, taped up, and no problems since.

I run a Clio 197,on both road and track. From what you are saying, a Standard 197 might be just what you are looking for, just look for the usual things, when buying an older car.For track, change the pads,brake fluid, go and enjoy. Driving from Thurso to the ring, is around 1200 miles one way in my Meglio, so I've kept the heavy Recaros,( For now.) and the aircon.At my age, I need a bit of comfort. One of the group runs a Caterham R500, but trailers it there.

On the 197,the wiring is behind the O/Side quarter panel in the boot.Pull the plug, fit 3.9 resistors fixed my problems.

For a lot of electrical faults, it is worthwhile looking at earthing points, as a bad earth somewhere can cause very weird problems. I also had a key problem, solved by sending spare key for repair.

You need to get it diagnosed. Someone telling you to change a Coil pack, won't necessarily fix it. What cylinder is it misfiring on?.

In you situation, if you want to go quicker, try a track day, and take some tuition, that will probably help you go faster, safely, on the road.

Make sure fluids are all ok. Maybe get Brake Fluid changed. Make sure Brake pads are ok, and car is in generally good condition. Its not a race, take your time. If you are very nervous, hire an instructor for a couple of laps. their advice is invaluable. Most of all, relax, enjoy.
