u33db, that sounds a bit dodgy to me, could even be dangerous. I wouldnt be happy if that was my car.
BTW. Is that a Renault main dealer? If so isnt that against their policy?
Rajk, hope its not another 3.5 weeks mate!
James
The receiver board started to die on my Concept 300, left me stranded a couple of times:@
Ive just had it replaced, £80! Didnt check the small print about the guarantee (sp), its invalidated if you dont have the alarm serviced every year.
Also, the guy who fitted the new receiver board said...
How much did you lower it by?
I lowered mine by 35mm & even with the ice in the back, it doesnt lock up.
Best way to test it, is go to a garage with brake testing facilities & get them to test it.
James
u33db,
If they have supplied you with a faulty item, you are entitled to a full refund (including surcharge on rack).
Just say to them that you are not happy with the service & wish to cancel your order. Its like purchasing any item, you can change your mind & you are fully entitled to a...
u33db,
If I were you Id cancel your order wih Renault for the rack & get one from GSF. They all come from the same manufacturer anyway. I didnt want to pay £200+ from Renault for a new rack that would take ages to come, when I could get one from GSF for £171.50 (less Cliosport discount as...
Rajk,
Absolute nightmare at the moment not having a car, mine is driveable, but I dont want to risk it in case the steering fails completely & I cause an accident.
Pauls a good bloke, its a pity that Renault are letting him down. Its typical of them though, they never seem to have anything...
Paul Mitchell has been waiting nearly 2 weeks for a steering rack for Rajks Williams, Renault said 10 days! It turns out that Renault havent got any for the Williams & are having to get one from the manufacturer.
I wish Renault would hurry up as Paul is going to be doing the rack on my 16v...
Make sure you get new top nuts on the front before you drive the car.
They have a plastic lock nut insert & shouldnt be re-used.
Unfortunately they are Renault only:( & if I remember rightly they are about £30 for both sides.
James
Ive got a new rack already, as I have a load of stuff to take back to GSF, so I got it for next to nothing with the returns, less than what Alex got charged for new inner track arm joint.
Ill get Paul to fit it & from what he was saying about Rajks Williams & having driven mine, he is saying...
Already replaced wheel bearings (peace of mind) & bottom ball joints(shagged). Will have a look at CV joints.
What do I need to look for?
Would this not have been soemthing that should have been picked up in the MOT?
Thanks
James
The 10 day wait thing was what Renault told Paul at Infinicar.
The ball joints & track arms can be replaced according to the Haynes book of lies, they dont tell you how though. It is likely to be a Renault dealer only job, as I think that you need some kind of special tool to remove the arms...
My 16v does this & I am currently awaiting Paul @ Infinicar to finish Rajks Williams before he can look at mine.
When I had my clutch done, Paul highlighted to me that I had a lot of play in the steering and it needed doing soon.
He currently is replacing the rack on Rajks Williams as it had...
Paul changed the clutch on my 16v & the service I received was second to none. He was also alot cheaper than anywhere else. My car is going back soon for a new steering rack to be fitted.
Paul also supplied me with a new set of clocks for my valver at a good price & they were despatched...
Alex,
Thanks for your reply, most helpful. I already have the parts, the track rod ends are male on my car.
Im hoping that this will tighten up my vague, light steering. If not it means a new rack!:(
Thanks
James
I am thinking of using this on my 93 16v. The car has done 86k.
What are the dangers, if any, of using this?
And what benefits will it give me?
Thanks
James
Yeah I had this problem. The way I got round it was to temorarily attach the speaker wires in the doors to the new speaker & then cut all 4 wires going to the factory x-over (1 had already been taken off by some-one else). I then used a 9-volt battery on the cut x-over wires to test each...
Its actually quite easy to do, you lower the rear by setting the height of the trailing arm & then putting back in the torsion bar - it will only go in one way. Ensure that you hammer the bar back in properly.
To make the bar easier to come out spray the splined ends of the bar with WD-40 or...
No pictures at the moment, will try & get some up soon.
As for the rubbing, spacers would probably sort this out, but it only catches ever so slightly, so therefore it is not really worth doing.
BTW, the fronts used to catch on full lock before I lowered the car.
James
It was doing it throughout the trip.
I have just had a look under the bonnet and the engine sounds as if it is hunting/misfiring, not a lot just slightly.
I am wondering if I have a fouled spark plug or if the dizzy cap is tracking.
James
When I lowered the rear of my car, I sprayed WD-40 (or equivalent) on the torsion bar every couple of days & drove the car for a couple of weeks like this. The torsion bars came out with no problems.
It might be worth doing this and getting the mechanic to do it in a couple of weeks time.
