I think most valvers sound a bit like a diesel on startup, I wouldnt worry about it. As for the erratic idle, clean the ISCV out with lots of carb cleaner, this should sort that out. Do a search for it on the forum, as there have been a number of posts on it. James

Drive the car and keep applying the WD (or equivalent) over a week or so. I did this as my bars were seized and I had no problems getting them out.

Dont re-use the top nut, as they have a nyloc sleeve. Safer to get a new one. Renault would do the bolt, the bolt that I think you are referring to is the top of the suspension strut. New top nuts cost about £30 for both sides from Renault. James

A new steering rack for a Williams is more than £130, a new one for the 16v from Renault is £210+ (inc vat), and unlike the 16v, you have to get them from Renault. BTW, Renault havent got any Willy racks in the whole of Europe at the moment, they are having to go to the manufacturer to get...

Before you do anything else get the garage to fit a new rocker cover gasket, or do it yourself, its not difficult. The gasket is about £8. This is a very common problem on the 16v. I would be very surprised if it is anything more serious than this. James

If you havent split any oil down the plug wells when filling it up, it is likely to be the rocker cover gasket. I had this on mine, fitted a new one, problem solved. James

Take it off & give it a good clean with carb cleaner first of all, took me about 10 mins, made alot of difference, that may solve your problem. James

Yeah, they are one piece, the nuts are welded to the plates. James

Brake cleaner is top stuff for removing glue too. James
