Ive heard all sorts of theories and times quoted for replacing the cam belt and tensioners on a 16v/williams. quickest i heard is 2.5hrs by Nick Hill - there must be a special method to be able to do it that fast.
Whats the best approach in simple terms? e.g engine lift/drop or remove the...
my limited knowledge on bores is basicaly if its visable by the human eye it will be trouble, as i see it the possible problems will come from ring wear and oil consumption and intime a loss of compression, running a compression test on all 4 cylinders would be a good thing to do.
did you...
most places wont do a punture repair in the tyre if its been treated with the stuff as well.
Its great stuff but has limited uses - our low profile tyres are very vulnerable to sideall dadamge which wont be fixed by tyre weld.
best use is to give the mrs a can for peace of mind when driving...
how you getting on?
only thing i would say is once its in bits its more difficult to move the car and leave its exposed also no one likes picking up other people work especialy when you come to reassemble something you didnt strip!
a mechanic shouldnt charge more then £100 just to whip off...
tighten the rocker cover (to the specified torque) when your doing the plugs, stops oil leaking and save replacing the gasket. I think it officialy part of a service.
deyailed description of the oil change is on here http://clio.m-fix.co.uk/http://clio.m-fix.co.uk/
its might be hard the...
hang on!
2 things - the GSF supplied dog bone is tiny compared with the OE 16v/williams ones so make sure its a proper one or better still buy uprated from Hillpower etc.
also - if i remeber rightly the bolt is right next to the front pipe and if you slot it trough the easy way it leaves the...
a while back i changed my fuel filter and in an effort to de-compress the fuel system i tried removing the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box under the scuttle panel (engine bay) and found the folloing
Without the fuse the car wouldnt even turn over
If the fuse is removed once the car is...
combination of tramlining and torque steer possibly.
i was giving it death in my wiliams earlier today along some wet and hilly B roads, handeling was out of this world but when pressed the steering does snatch slightly when getting traction back qand powering out of bends. I dont mean the...
the dash top panel is secured by 5 torx screws, 2 at the side hidden by the door jamb, and 3 spaced along the back on the air vents. remove and withdrawn the top dash panel towards you, then remove the instrument securing panel screws (torx again) and un clip the speedo, its pretty tight mind...
intepro is the main place, near tornbury.
whats been done to the car? to be honest a better test might be getting it along side another similar clio as all rolling roads vary and so much of the figure is down to an assumed transmission loss of 10%-20%
funny that – I felt exactly the same when I got my willy engined 16v on the road after the swap, its felt loads faster but it did torque steer like hell and the mechanic who done most of the fitting wasn’t that impressed with it as a result (he does own a Ferrari!) but my Williams doesn’t suffer...
thanks very much excellent replies -
Will try cleaning and this is possibly the cause because it used to be quicker depending which button you used.
If it does need replacing - to summerise
Will any motor from a clio 1 fit or are they age/model/side specific?
How easy is it to fit?
My passenger electric window stopped working this morning, it’s been very slow since I’ve had the car but this morning I tried both my switchs - both driver side and the passenger side one and it didn’t move an inch.
Any ideas what might need replacing? I heard the motor is over £150 or...
Thanks for the reply - very helpfull
I did have some succes - i got the part number and price
7700843236 £48.92 + VAT
When you say it could be possible from underneath is that replacing the sender unit or just getting at the singkle blade connecter?
what does it actually look like as im...
like many my Oil pressure gauge dosent work, it was working intermittantly but now dosent work at all. Iv ruled out the easy fixes and it looks like being the pressure sender unit on the back of the block. I find it unlikley that the unit will have failed (after working intermittantly for a...
well my efforst to reduce it by oil are in vain, Ive not long had the car and it had relatilvy new unknown oil in it when i bought it, i swapped it for some nasty 15/40 mineral oil and was going to run it for 500 miles then change it again giving it a proper flush.
the old oil seemed thin and...
yes agrred CC this summer without doubt. also would like to do an airfield track day to get me started. have you ever driven at Kemble? thats not far from me and there less to crash into and therfore a better place to famialierise myself with the limits of the car.
also collerne sprints? just...
no mate wasnt suggesting that,
just you could come for a look at my mega mileage beast one day if your about. I always keep an eye open but never seen any of your cars parked. I normaly park it in the furtherst car park (gravel) but like i say it only Fridays.
I reckon we should meet up with...
at 110k some of my tappets are taking more then 5 mins to quieten down (i know its cold!) is there really a possibly drop is performance due to lessened valve lift from this? Or are BB marketing for my £180 for 16 new ones??
Im edging closer to get the bottom end re-built and need to...
dont be afraid to increase the rear pressure for more involving handleing - my 28 is for daily wet winter use. Track day pressures would be differny again
suprising how much differnce tyre pressures make
for wear alone 35 is fairly high, i ran 34 front and 30 rear on my old 16v and it worse the middle of the tyre out where they were over pressure. im now running 32 front 28 rear which is slightly over pressure but its mest all round for grip/comfort/wear.
remeber if the tyres are warm the...
whats are people paying for "Elf Tranself TRX 75w-80"??
anyone buying from other then Renault?
How much do you need for a williams?
How difficult is it to change in practice? (appears easy but rarely is the case i find)
is there a gasket or somthing for the drain plug?
the thing is in the middle on the inside - difficult to explain, the electric ones have larks on the outside but not the mechanical 16v/willy ones.
either wya who cares because i filled mine almost to the top of the grooves and it sounds perfect now! Im chuffed to bits as this has been...
