Hmm - did you notice 'ought wrong with the original springs after they'd been removed?
Which end was one side lower? Rear or front?
Must admit I've contemplated chucking a set of Eibachs on there to see if it does the trick. The problem is I've had the rear springs off and they look...
Well it's a mystery!
I've had the car looked at @ eurocarcare in Derby. Top place by the way, reasonably priced and very friendly and helpful chaps - a breath of freash air compared to Renault Service departments!
They had it in for one day last week - they confirmed it's lower on the...
Dunno mate.
I'm from Notts and had similar probs finding a good place. I'm trying this place on Thursday:
http://www.eurocarcare.co.uk/
I've heard V good things from folks that have used them before, decent price, friendly and reliable. When I called up they were V friendly and seemed...
Well I had a spare hour this afto so I took the rear springs off. comparing them they both look fine - no damage. I also had a good look round the area and made sure both springs were seated correctly when I refitted them.
To prove a point I swapped them over and went for a drive. No...
The rear passenger stub axle was replaced a month back after the garage fucked up one of the bearings when the discs were changed. The bearing collapsed taking the stub axle with it! I don't think they wouldn't have touched the springs for this though and the problem is on the opposite side...
Just checked mate. Springs look good. I've taken a ruler out to the car and it's actually 20 mm from the top of the arch to the rim of the wheel lower on the drivers side.
10.6mm passenger side 12.6mm drivers side.
Hi all,
Been having problems(again) over the last few weeks. The handling has gone to pot. The car seems to lean into left hand turns, giving an oversteer kind of feel.
I though that one of the drivers side shocks could be shot, but I've bounced the car on all four corners and it...
Im thinking of doing the same in a couple of months.
Howd the 225 Trophy compare to the standard 172? I still love my 172 and dont wanna sacrifice the amount of fun I get from blating around in her so my next car needs to be on a par fun factor wise so Id be interested in your comparison...
Just to let you know, Renault UK have footed 75% of the repair bill. Which has left me with £750 to pay. TBH Im happy with this - Renault Customer Services replied to my post on the renaulsport.co.uk forum asking me to call them. I did and they offered me 75% as a good will gesture. They...
Ouch!
Just had Sunwin call. All the valves are dead and the engine needs a new head! Renault UK will only pay 50% of the cost leaving me with a bill for £1,519. Not what I wanted to hear.
How can it costs three grand to rectify this! Looks like its going to be more economical in the...

The cam went on my old mk1 172, 4.5 years old, 19000miles with on the clock. she let go at 80-mph on the A23 cost £2500 to fix, but with the help of Renault UK it cost me £250 they paid 90% as a bit good will. push them and they will give you a...

A 52 plate................so that makes it 3years old yeah? What Im driving at is if it is only 3years old and at 47k miles its WELL within the Reno recomendations, which are 72,000miles or 5years, add to that the fact that it has been serviced...

Hi Folks,
To cut a long story short the cambelt has let go on the 172. Looks pretty terminal. Renault Notts have the car at the mo and are assessing the damage. The cars only done 47K and as far as Im aware the cambelt doesnt need changing until the 72K service. The car has a full service...

Strange. Maybe they know that you wouldnt use the TVR as an everyday car. Hmmm. How much do those things cost at the moment Rich?
Start about 9K for early models, Mike. Then up into the £20s. Im just browsing at the mo and...
Hmmm wierder still. A quote on the V is £1,016. How come a Chimaeras nearly £400 cheaper? Is that to off set the breakdown/recovery and fuel bills!!
Sorry for hi-jacking the thread BTW!
I paid £850 from direct line on mine with the Magnex, at the start of the year. Because of my prang  last year all the other companies I tried where giving stupid quotes, way above that one even.
I got quoted £639 from them for a Chimeara!!!! Which is also grp 20, same as the V, wierd!

Blimey hi Rich hows it going mate?!!!! Long time no chat! Hows Ella? The 172 has to go unfortunately, nowhere to keep it, not to mention the fact that I need the money to fund the V6. I was pleasantly surprised at the insurance on the V6...
I had my 36K done today @ Renault Ilkeston. £264 - £52 cheaper than Renault Derby, and 10 mins drive away!
Anyhow, I quizzed them about the same belt. £79 extra inc labour, so yours seems a but out!
They also reckoned that it doesnt need doing until 72K - thats what it said on their...
Good on ya Mike!
Is this a replacement for the 172 or you keeping her aswell?
Must admit, Ive been tempted myself - just cant stretch that far cash wise.
Looking at a TVR Chimeara though as a second car, and keeping the 172 - I dont ever want to let het go! Got an isurance quote this...
172 for nearly 3 yrs.
Not bored at all - lurve the cars power + stealth looks - hate the fecking dealers + renault muppet mechanics who dont know the fecking cars theyre working on.
Rich
LOL! It usually gets the work out when the wheels are turning!!
Seriously though if your cars left in a damp closed atmosphere with no adequate ventilation then it could possibly be a problem? But I guess from the above comments not that much of a problem!! LOL - Oh well I guess Ill go...
Just brought a new house with a garage and driveway. Good for insurance purposes as the car is no longer parked on a street and hence the premium has dropped slightly. However a few folk have warned my about keeping the car garaged up as this can make the car sweat and after a few years may...
Had the bumper off on Saturday to check out my Xenon lamp thats not working. What a fecking job that was in the howling wind. Not Nice. Anyhow, I discovered that the bulb had blown to smithers. Nothing left of it, and the headlamp was full of glass. Looks like it went with a bit...
I had the same thing with the 4K rattle (2nd time around). They wouldnt pay cause exhaust is excluded outside the first year, and classed as wear and tear. Id feck it mate and get an aftermarket one. Cheaper and wont go wrong again!
