Jeez buds, contisports are not that ridiculous. Actually have among the better dry grip out there and cost is among the best competition( wet grip is puddie though ) and , GR, you need to do more than 400 miles to scrub the tyres in properly so they perform better!

CTR wins, but only just. Have raced many CTR in the clio and many clios when I had my CTR. By about 135 velocity, the CTR has 1 to 2 lengths ahead but cosidering there is a 4 - 6K price differential in real terms(30th ae ctr for example compared to supermarket 172) the moral victory always goes...

I own R500 and they are great and agree they are dangerous. Obviously you need a track to get to full potential but it takes a long time to get to grips with and that feeling of acceleration...............

The 172s 5th gear grunt is shockingly bad, unfortunately it is the 172s major weakspot(should have been shorter geared to about 130), but in every other gear it can go very well for an average 2 litre with 165 bhp.

A racing puma will NOT beat a 172 around a track! It would be close but the 172 would win. I have raced many frps around tracks and they handle a LITTLE better, but once on the straight you go by with ease and pull out many car lengths which the puma will never recoup. You might get beaten if...

Real world performance is no different whether you use 95 or 98 ron(optimax only real advantage on a 172 is cleaning agents)as long as the 95 ron is not supermarket fuel and you get better mpg on 95 because you put in more fuel for the same amount of money obviously!

CTRs are great, the only problem is the lack of a/c for 16k on the road price otherwise they have the same kit as the cliosport.
Lets dispel a couple of myths about them:-
1)they ARE faster than an average 172, by a couple of seconds to a hundred, 30-70 by about a second+, etc...even more so...
Used to own a lotus carlton when I worked for gm/opel in germany in early nineties. Absolutely fantastic car, but the m5 would kill it on the track, not the other way around!
