1.5DCi or 2.0VVT?

  Clio 1.5 GT TDI
Debating whether to get rid of my 1.5GT DCi and get a 197 2.0 petrol.
What are the pros and cons?
Obviously speed and power for the petrol, but my car needs some new alloys as one of mine got split in an accident and begrudge spending £179.99 for one wheel so have a horrible set on at the minute - and has given me an excuse to swap it.
Here's a picture of mine at the minute:

182? I like the newer ones 197/200. Economy is important as I do mostly motorway miles but also spend a lot of time on country roads and want something with a bit more pick up.

So.....change to a 197, to save money on fixing a wheel? That's a new one, even for CS

Fix your wheel, get a remap.

Anybody know of any decent remappers in the north east/North Yorkshire area? My mate had his done but didn't reckon much to it

I swapped my 10 month old GT DCI for a brand new 200 when my GT was getting serviced.

2 different types of cars, massive massive difference in economy my GT would do 50mpg without trying where my 200 would do 25 without trying.

can you justify doubling your fuel bill, if you can go for it, If you cant then don't!

remember its not just fuel, cambelts are twice as much, brakes are twice as much, tyres are twice as much!

Fun is 100x as much!

If you have a DPF the best option is to remove. Yet the 1.5 dci with a good remap you can get around the 140hp and You keep low mpg , and you still gonna have a fast car.

sorry for my bad english... here in Portugal almost nobody has clios sport. so we had to go for diesel ones

wouldn't go that far lol! day to day driving it wasn't much quicker than the GT DCI was!! only when you drove like your hair was on fire.

and where it handled better, on your typical UK backroad the GT was just as fast as it didn't skip and jump about!

but in keeping with the theme, it was probably twice as fun!

for almost 1% of the time.

Especially for OP. Mostly motorway miles, and even when you get on a B-road, how often do people actually, seriously, deicde to drive on their door-handles?

Keep DCi, get MX5 for cheap-to-run, RWD 'lolz'...hell, they'll even do 35mpg...and servicing can be done by cavemen using breeze-blocks for tools

197s are great on fuel!

... I saw 30mpg for a second the other day

Lol, I can't beleive that i'm now getting better MPG in my new car. More weight (only just), 60% more power & an extra cylinder and i'm still consistantly getting hight MPG than my 197 ever did! lol

I even saw 40mpg at the weekend over a 60 mile journey!

I've heard of big fish tuning, not heard of rstuning. Any reports on them?

Rstuning have a very good rep on here. Big fish tuning sound like sharks.

Cant believe the difference in fuel economy between 197's and 172/182's. When my 172 cup was standard I would easily get 40+mpg on the motorway and average around 35 the rest of the time.

The wheel is not repairable. It's £180 for a new one from renault but I'm looking for private sellers of one. I'm going to go to rs tuning. How much is it? Around £200?

  Clio 1.5 GT TDI
I'll give them a ring to see what they both charge. I always thought it was around the 200 mark?
I fancied a 197 but people have just said running costs are more or less double. It's not that much of an issue - but with a remap and a sorted wheel my car would be spot on.

no point in tuning boxes they cant affect boost.

my map at RS Tuning was £450 from memory

I think £3-400 is common place for a remap. My remap on the Volvo was £419, however I did gain 70+bhp and 90lb-ft torque, so felt worth it. I think if I spent that kind of money for better drivability and 2bhp i'd be annoyed! (1*2 owers!) however on the DCI you should get good results

Yeah I went to a remapping place near me in Northallerton and he said it would add about 37-45ish bhp, which would be noticeable.
Definitely going to get it done but I didn't realise it was so expensive.
Has anybody heard of one of those bluefin boxes? If so, any reports?

Would you recommend them? Are they easy enough to sort out?

Yeah I absolutely would. As I say used one on my brand new megane 1.5dci 110 from 1000miles to 66000 miles and it was brilliant.

Whenever it went in for service I just unplugged it and that was that till I got it back. And when I did unplug it the difference was immense. It made it awful to drive without it.

I am selling mine if you want it as I no longer have the car.

How much are you after? And what make is it?
How much extra bhp did it give you? I've heard that remapping gives slightly more than a box, don't know whether that's right though.
Cheers

Yeah remapping will be better but thats why its £350+ more!!
It gave me approx 20bhp and about 40ft-lbs of torque at a guess. And MUCH better low down drivability.
Not sure what make it is tbh mate, yours for £85 delivered. PM me if you want it.

How do you install it? Very stupid question, but I've never put one in!
Are there different settings on it or is it the same setting all the time?
