172 Cup servicing advice...

Car  Mini JCW
Due to my newly aquired Cup developing an oil leak:cry:, and requirng a replacment gasket, I have decided to service the car at the same time.

Oil - from what i've read Silkolene 5w-40 Pro S 5w-40 seems to be reccomended - is this correct?

Spark Plugs - NGK PFR6E-10 (as reccomended by sparkplugs.co.uk @ £8.73 each:eek:)

Oil filter - halfords jobbie.

Are the Oil and filters specificed correct? (tried searching for cup and couldnt :dead:)

Many thanks

Anthony

Cup and 172 engine's are the same, nothing you've listed would be different.

buy a itg or k-tec panel filter if your goin to change da filter.

and i went to Renault yesterday to check the oil type he said 5 / 40 and i said whats better then that he said 5 / 30 so what is the better for u and what kind of drivin your doin.

Make sure its fully synthetic. the more expensive-ish oils will be better never buy budget oil for a good car that stuff is made for old bangers.

Following on from this does anyone know how much oil is needed to fill a 172? I'm servicing mine this week.

Renaults latest oil Elf Evolution SXR is the stuff you want mate. 5W-40.
I was recommended it for my 172 Cup. £60+ though, although it is top stuff, its the replacement for Excellium.

Oil - Silkolene Pro S 5w-40, Opie Oils. 5.1L to fill.
Oil Filter - Renault.
Sump washer - Renault.
Pollen Filter - Renault.
Air Filter - ITG.
Plugs - NGK PFR6E-10, ebay is your best bet about £30 for four delivered.

I got my service kit from some Renault dealer Yorkshire way off of eBay. About £30 delivered IIRC, was cheaper than the stealers I rang and delivered the next day.

Which gasket has gone?

Forgot about this thread lol, after removing the plenum it seems its stemming up through the bolts securing the cam cover? on, so I will remove these, seal and re-torque asap.

Also have replaced the spark plugs and HT leads, and will replace the cabin filter / air filter when I order the coilovers.

Cheers lads:)
