182 . . . Dyno today (21-01-11)

Hi guys . . . ive owned my Clio for about 3 months now. Its a 2004 model with only 30,000 miles clocked up.

Made the decision to get it on a Dyno to see how it faired out. Engine wise it has a Piper-Cross induction kit, de-cap pipe and some aftermarket exhausts so i was looking forward to the outcome.


After the run i wasn't impressed . . . the car maxed at 148.7 Bhp and 127ftlb torque

Any ideas on what i can do to help improve this??

I bet 2 custard creams your timing is out, get it retimed by a specialist.

My engine management light was on for about 2 months . . . Renault friend of mine said it was due to the exhaust reading because of the De-cat on the car.

The guy doing the Dyno said some cars cut the power when engine management is on and even though he re-set it before the run he said it would be best to get it looked into. Mentioned something about timeing if i remember mate . . ??

Ive all the original parts . . . would it be best to take the Piper-cross off and put the standard Air-box on again?? and if so would i be better changing the filter inside to something different??

am i right if timing out it a new cam belt change all over again. cant just re-time as it wont be a warranty.

more money unless the renault place were it was done pays or re dose it.

IM interested to know about the timing causing issues with power, My 172 does not feel anywhere as quick as my last one, seems to struggle mid range alot of noise for what feels like little not much movement.

((172 head)... i was told buy (jms tuning) if timing ou on theses enginet ther could be a loss of around 30bhp depending on how much it out..so yeah timing can have alot to do with it...

As said, get the timing done by a specialist.

Lose the induction kit as they're all s**t. Use the standard airbox with a pipercross filter.

Sorry for tread hijack, but does it matter if the timing is advanced or retarded, as regards being down on power? I ask as Birchdown did mine and told me it was out before and although it now runs a lot better on tick over & doesn't cut out when started from cold, it doesn't seem to have any more power. Renault main dealer had the timing out BTW.

ther was a guy who took his 172 to k tec to have a stage 2 done. and once the done what thay had to do thay put it on a dyno and some think was,nt right so thay checked engine over and every think seemed to be o.k. so thay checked the timing and it was out so thay re-time it and put it back on the dyno and run it again and bhp whent up...
