197 rather than the cup

was set on getting the cup,but i was shocked 2hear they dont have elec mirrors :dapprove: more to the bugger point no xeons :( with the 197 u get air con as standard,i can get my xeons & electric mirrors :D and a few more toys. so it will be in white,black wheels,cup spoiler,tail pipe ext & not forgetting the lil renaultsport badge :) happy!
 
Are black wheels an option of the FF?
Its all for weight saving fella, its an enthusiasts car, hense the CUP label.
 
if you wanted electric mirrors, xenons etc etc, i dont know why you were considering the cup in the first place.

as said, its an enthusiasts car, a rare treat in this day and age without having to spend big bucks!

20kg weight saving? That's the difference between having lunch or not having lunch. Pointless apart from making it more accessible to people who can't stretch the budget to the FF I suppose?
 
im still thinking about getting a cup, but then i think back to my 172 cup, whcih had the metal pedals, ellecy mirrors, RS steering wheels, u get none of that on the 197 cup, i cant see the 197 cup having wonderful residuals a few years down the line either.

it is a very attractive price though.
 
I can appreciate people saying it’s the enthusiasts car but there has been to many things compromised for my liking and I would feel like I was driving round in a pov spec car.

I sat in a Cup and to be honest I hated the interior. FF 197 FTW.
 
The 172FF and 172cup were really different cars and I understand why people brought them. The 197FF and 197cup are too similar. 20KG or in real world terms--20 litres of petrol difference in weight!

Id pay a bit extra for the nicer interior. So Id have a FF out of the two
 
I ordered my cup when the glacier white was exclusive to the cup, by the time it was announced that the white was going to be released in FF form, it was 5 days until my car arrived. But still after driving mine with recaros, Aircon, speedlines and obviously in white I wouldn't even consider an FF, the car is a marvel. Besides I have the physical capability of turning a little nozzle until I can see out of the wing mirrors efficently. For £30 the Metal foot pedals and foot rest is resolved, zeons is the only draw back but you can live without them.
Renault spoil the exclusivity of the car by making the extras you get on the cup available on the everyday 197 i.e cup suspension, colour schemes ans wheels. It would be more appealing if they left these options only available on the cup cars!
The weight differential between the 197 and the 197 cup was exactly the same with the 182.
And besides for the £1000odd pound it would cost you for the better interior. This can be resolved for £500 for an interior retrim, still works out cheaper. If it was that much of an issue, which it really isn't at all. Just alot of 197 haters about, same thing happend with the 182 and the same thing will happen with the 197s predescessor

I wouldn't waste my money on a FF 197 now. There's no point. The Cup doesn't lack anything important, and cost a lot less.

What you all seem to forget is that the interior of the Cup is still 100 x better than all the previous Renaultsports, and is the same as most Meganes and normal Clios. You're all taken in by a little bit of silver painted plastic. Looking at a FF 197 the other day, the silver dash surround makes the head unit look out of place.

I didn't miss any of the toys when I went from the 182 to the Trophy, and the spec of the Cup isn't that dissimilar. I didn't move my wing mirrors ever after setting them in the Trophy, so why would I need electric ones?

So many people on here seem to care more about what everyone else thinks about what they drive. Plus to me, the Cup looks better. The black on white rub strips, door handle and wing mirrors make it a more purposeful looking beast.

Swapping the Trophy for the Cup was one of the best car moves I've made. I couldn't be happier with it.:approve:

Oh, and the headlights are xenon.

seems renault have gone backwards :S

As I said in a previous post. The 197 has taken a huge step forward with build quality and looks. The car is distinguishable from the standard 197, where the 172/182 was hardly distinguishable from its cheaper smaller engined cars. The car now appeals to a vast amount of people also, gone are the days of the clio being assossiated with with Haidressers (which as much as you defend it they were) The mk4 clio looks the part.

I had someone approach me yesterday, just a random on the car park. The car draws so much attention. Only one car geek ever approached me about the Trophy.
 
Each to there own for sure.

I love the the look of the White Cup at the local dealers, with black gloss wheels and RenaultSport splitter, spoiler and sideskirts that I drive past everyday.

It's just a shame that they didn't produce the same sort of weight difference like the 172's

Still don't understand the rubber pedals on the cup either

I get to much attention for my liking, but an example of how much the car appeals across the range, a 50 year old couple stopped as I was cleaning the car outside my house and was commenting on how beautiful the car is, I didn't even know them complete randoms, but they stopped commented, and she was even trying to persuade him to buy one! :) bonus.
 
this thread is worthless with out pics! i love the 197 cup! :) and its the only car id swap my 182 cup for! would need to be speced with recaros and aircon mind! ;)

I wish it would attract women in the same way, not dudes with gold teeth. He did say he would never pay that sort of money for a Clio though!! Even when I told him what it should cost and what I paid.

I forgot, being totally honest there is one thing I wish my Cup had, and that's the little bit of blind spot mirror on the drivers side. Driving in heavy city traffic that comes in handy. God knows what it's not got that, surely that's a safety thing more than anything.
 
Its each to their own at the end of the day and alot of people on here are very happy with their Cups and FF versions. I would rather pay the extra £££ for a FF 197 (which I did ;))over a cup as for me it just doesnt cut the mustard.

I personally hate the black door strip seperation and I think the none painted mirrors luck pish.

Here's an example, I bought this car with only 1000 miles on the clock for £11,000... it's only 6 months old! Quite a saving on a new one! I'm then getting the suspension settup the same as a cup for about 350-400
quid. Might not be what everyone wants but you gotta admit I've saved a fair bit! :)

Hey Breakneck, where is that spoiler from? I love the look of the cup (in white of course) with black wheels, but HATE the cup spoiler. Yours is much nicer so where's it from?
 
I went from a ST-3 to a 197 Cup and miss none of the luxuries I had.
My Cup with Recaro's cost me £13,500.

That saving made the choice for me, better in my pocket than Renault's.

These cars drive exactly the same, (but the difference in cost is over 10%) and to me it is all about the driving. Concentrate on and enjoy just how good the drive is and you will not miss ANY of the so called "luxuries".

Auto Lights / Wipers, Climate and Xenons - Yes Please.

I and will have the exact same drive as the cup with my cup pack addon aswell.
 
But you'll pay a premium to do so.

That's why it's good that we have choice. You want a luxurious 197, I want one for driving and would rather have saved my money than have a load of "luxuries" that I have had in every one of my last 4 cars and don't miss at all.

And your car will never be called a Cup so won't be as cool!

Well if your not going to miss them then thats obviously fine and as Ive have said each to their own.

My one would be for driving but with the added comforts aswell ;) and my car will be cool enough with out the need to be called a Cup lol
