Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

Out of interest mate, at 20 (same as me until june) whats it like insuring both cars? Im guessing the valver is insured with no ncb as its used on the 182?

Some companies will do a NCB match. If you go to a specialist they will probably do you a deal if you explain its a track car and you will be doing only about 1000 miles a year

Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

You're a legend mate.

Did you just use that Muc-off stuff? I've been using the strongest degreaser I can get my hands on and its rubbish. Spent about 2 hours on it today and it still looks shite!

Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

Mainly that pink muck off stuff yep, as it was all I had at the time. That got the majority of it off, pressure washer finished the job. Left to dry, Hammerite 'Kurust' on the rusty bits, left to work, paint.

Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

Long overdue update time. Not as detailed as some have been but it's better than nothing.

As you now know, the cage is fully welded in and ive had the seats mounted. This means that I can about finish the interior off. Having removed various bits of sound deadening it left the interior a bit multi coloured so I decided I wanted to paint the inside. I was torn between black and white for a short while, both satin. I decided on the white as it'll brighten things up abit. Might turn out to be a pain keeping clean but we'll see!

Masked some of the car off and gave the rear half a few quick coats. I'm only using normal satin white rattle cans here, so it's taking a good few coats to hide the dark blue underneath.

Last friday I dropped the engine back in after work. Before it went in I changed the waterpump, fitted a replacement cambelt cover which I managed to source, torqued the bottom crank pulley back up and fitted the alternator belt. No action shots of anything, just it sat back in.

IMG_1649.jpg

It went back in nice and easily. Nothing is plumbed back up as yet.

Ive modified my 172 front hubs to suit the Williams fitment Bilstein dampers, so test fitted that on one side.

IMG_1656.jpg

Next I removed the standard rear dogbone/gearbox mount and made my solid mount upto the same length

IMG_1658.jpg

And fitted that with relevant nuts to space it to a similar position to the standard item

IMG_1661.jpg

Made a start on cleaning up my 172 front brake calipers. Wire brush treatment then a clean off with degreaser

1.2 fuel filler pipe courtesy of Foxy. This does away with the small aux fuel tank and now fills directly into the main tank. Help with weight balance a bit and eliminate any low fuel issues.

Masked a bit more of the car up

IMG_1651.jpg

And gave the rear another few light-ish coats

Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

Should be fairly. I've used satin white though so it's not going to be shiny and reflect.

Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

coming on good mate. How come you're only spraying the rear for the moment? Try vinegar on the calipers if you want to clean any more crap off them ;)

lol i got quotes of £900 for the valver from adrian flux, bearing in mind it has no recognised security features on it!

rang them back and spoke to someone with an understanding of what i was using the car for

down to £484 tpft insured 'between the stages' like a rally car, includes road use (so dont necessarily have to be going to/from a track) and full breakdown cover (vital if you ask me lmao :clown:)

i'm 23 and thats using 0ncb as i use them on my other car

i was smiling all day at that quote!

Re: Valver Track Car Project Thread

where did you get the solid dog mount from fella? :)

It's known as a 'Coops' solid dogbone. There is a guy called 'Coops' on all 3 clio forums (CS, williamsclio, clio16valver) iirc who will supply you one

Looking good Chris, starting to look like a proper track car now! What disc/pad combo you running?

I'll be spraying all of it, just easier to concrentrate on one part at a time than spreading out across the car and preventing me doing other bits. I need to drill the seat rails for sidemounts yet, and attach 4 more harness eye bolts before the front will get painted.

Thanks mate, will definitely give them a go. Did you ring a certain line to speak to someone in the know, or luck of the draw?

Cheers dude. Will get some brembo HC's (where's cheapest for 280mm?) and nick the DS2500's out of the 182 and put some standard pads back in that. Motul RBF600 fluid and Goodridge lines.
