1994 172'd Mk1 Valver Track Car

Brembo max = grooved. Brembo HC = non-grooved.

Max seem to be about 100 whereas the HC's are 49+vat on K-tec CS deal.

Got a few more bits sorted today. I can't remember if I've put pictures up of the wheels since I painted that first one. Anyway, the rest have since been sprayed and this morning I got my 4 tyres put on and balanced

Also got the same garage to fit my new wheel bearings for me into the 172 hubs.

I stopped by GSF on the way home and picked up a pair of Brembo HC discs, 172/182 size, 280mm. Worked out cheaper than Ktec CS price after postage.

Then, as if by magic, I got it all loosely bolted on as I was overly keen to see how it would sit! Spot on i'd say :D

Out it comes, not easy pushing up a hill, even if it is light!

spot on whiteley, just the driveshafts now then?

As i understand it renault have redesigned the 1*2 shafts with better circlips on the CVs. They are supposed to be quite reasonable too. Might be worth a call.

I got quoted £174+VAT for re-con drivers side shaft from Renault, slightly less if you did it on an exhange basis, brand new was more expensive :(

I ended up paying £47 quid from specialist breakers for the one shaft I was missing

Just need the shafts then I THINK i have everything I need to get it running again. Will be a few more bits after that but mechanically it's about there. Im halfway through a deal on a pair of shafts so hopefully that'll come good. Split inner n/s gaiter though.

Quite a bit more done again, but not too many photos to show for it I'm afraid. Thanks if you're still reading too.

Got the rear discs/bearings/pads done. Just standard Bendix pads on the back with Brembo discs which were supplied with the car.

A few more bits under the rear end too whilst I had lots of access. Swapped the standard (Amazing condition, rebound fully on their own) rear shocks for the GAZ adjustables that I'd bought. 12 clicks from softest was about the same as the standards, out of a possible 30 odd i believe. Adjusters pointing inwards so I can get to them with wheels on.

Removed the reserve/aux fuel tank which has been replaced with a bypass fuel filler pipe from a lower spec Mk1. Looks much neater under there now, I can get to the shock bolts on that side, and weight distribution should be a bit better too. Swapped relevant pipes over and sorted fuel lines.

Finished painting my 172 front brake calipers up in Hammerite's very finest yellow. Attached Goodridge lines. Rear lines were also done but I didnt manage a picture. Also took apart/cleaned/lubed sliders which are now good.

Heatshields removed, they wont be going back on. I may modify the long centre piece and use it where the exhaust manifold shield would normally be, to protect the brake lines/reservoir.

Going back to the rear brakes, the sliders were siezed pretty much solid. Because of this, the previous owner looks to have bought new discs/pads/bearings assuming they were nackered when in reality the sliders were preventing them from working properly. They were hammered out, clean/polished up, copper greased and built back up. Not perfect, but alot better than they were.

And finally... Williams wheels onto the 182. Legal tread to get me by until I buy some more tyres for the 182 wheels. Would look awesome if lower IMO.

Complete exhaust also re-fitted with new mounts all round and new clamp over the rear axle :)

Wow amazing work just finished reading the lot mines in pieces atm, good job i dont have to much wiring to do i hate it. Good work loved the wheels very nice pictures, i bet you cant wait to get it on the road.

Sent him paypal for the shafts yesterday Dan, not heard from him today but he said they'd be posted ASAP. Then i'll have everything to get it oil tight and running again. Hopefully!

Little bit more this evening. With the rear brakes now sorted I set about getting the fronts installed. They are 172/182 front brakes/hubs so I've stolen my Ferodo DS2500's out my 182 and put standard pads back in that.

Received my 172 driveshafts whilst at work yesterday. I knew about a broken N/S inner gaiter when I bought them but waited until they turned up to see how bad it was.... I picked a new one up from an autofactors on the way home!

Fitted the N/S shaft and then dropped the car back onto its wheels, rang my bro inside and we pushed it up the drive to turn it around, what a big effort that was! Sloped drive FTL. I wanted to get a couple of pics with it outside but was rushing too much to get it off the road out the way.

Back in t'other way round and masked some more up for paint, also took the door off for easier access.

but have you used williams wishbones + arb along with 172 hubs/struts/shafts?

widetrack + big brake in one swoop?

19 16v wishbones and ARB, same as Williams from what I gather, Bilstein Williams fitment front struts, then 172 hubs/brakes/shafts.
