2006 Mini Cooper S - Another One.

Only if you use springs!!!! Which is what everyone on MT always says.
Then people complain that the springs only option is rubbish 😂

Its been a few years, but I've had Eibachs on an R53 before and they seemed compliant enough for me?! I think Brookie still runs them and hes had the car for over 2 years.

I know a decent set of coilovers would be a better option, but I guess the costs involved.

I take it with a pinch of salt mate.

I have no doubt that spending £500+ on suspension improves things, you'd be stupid to think otherwise. I will at some point upgrade. However I've yet had no issues or need to change. I ran Sportlines on my 182 also both cars handle very similarly. Over here they're one of the recommended options for the Clio.

I can't remember how the Eibachs were or I'd probably consider them lol 😂😂

I've also bought a R53 MCS - brilliant little thing - I've had the pulley (15%) done as well as a few other mods - whilst Ive put some polly bushes in to sharpen the handling up (already lost the run flats) i've just upgraded the brakes Mintex - lowering (i know some bang on about lowering them) isnt a great idea if you live in SW London - it already hits some speed bumps arghhhhhh

Small-ish update on the near-future plans for this car.

Car is booked in locally on the 30th for the 'One-Ball' Mod. I can't justify spending £££ on an exhaust and the silencer that's being removed is pretty grotty as it stands.

Orranje wont commit to when their Stealth airbox's are going to be available and I cba to make a HOBO box as it stands, so on the lookout for one that isn't overpriced...Also going to be speaking to 1320 shortly reference getting it serviced along with a 15% pulley fitted which I may do this side of Xmas.

I also would like to ditch the run-shats all round and have my eyes on Kumho Ecta KU39's... Had them on my old MINI and found them to be a good all rounder.

As it stands, the car is sat like this whilst I attempt to not make a balls-up on the Aero Grilles.

Also fitted the usual used car essentials - Really grips my s**t how people put up with smeary wiper blades.

Where did you get the numberplates from? I'm after a set for mine

I used to work at a Peugeot dealer, so popped in and made them myself at the weekend 😂

You should be able to into a dealer your friendly with and providing you have proof of ownership etc, ask them to make you some 'plain' plates - I bet there cheaper than you'd expect also!

Funny you mention that, I had my mate who works in a vauxhall dealer make some up for me a few years back with 'mates rates' Bloody £25 when they are £15 on ebay and he also trapped a flys wing under the clear part of the plate!

  Peugeot 308
How the hell did he manage to trap a fly? :anguished:

If dealers aren't sourcing number plates ingredients for around £2 a plate, they are doing it wrong!

Couple of little bits to post in here.

Aero Grilles are now in/on, I really hate doing the bottom one..

3 days after I bought the car, the steering started to 'Creak' at low speeds with left to right input..
So a brief bit of researched suggested it may be a dry bearing situated on the steering column.

Armed with this stuff (BMW Silicone Spray - Such a nice product) I doused the bearing whilst turning the wheel side to side - Problem Solved.

Oh and a 2nd hand Orranje Stealth Airbox has arrived, which I'm just in the process of giving the filter a clean and re-oil before fitting. (Filter had just had a bath at this point)

My steering rack is creaking too, where is the bearing that needs greasing? Do you have to remove anything? It's annoying me and garage want £500 to replace

Lower the steering wheel, Remove the lower steering column plastics and you should be able to see and access the bearing (If using anything else rather than an aerosol tin, you may struggle to get in contact with the bearing without removing the steering wheel).

So got a couple bits and bobs done over the weekend / this morning;

Cleaned and fitted the Orranje Stealth Airbox - That included hole-cutting an 8cm circle into the bulkhead for the additional feed.

Yes, the bay needs a good cleaning!!

Today, the car was booked in for the 'One-Ball' Mod - The usual silencer looked shabby from the outside, yet the guy who done the work said once he was taking it off the car, it pretty much started to crumble in his hands.

Nice little weight saving, tidy up and some extra popping/noise.

s**t video I know, this is the result of the Orranje Airbox along with 'One-Ball' inside the car. A little extra exhaust noise, but no drone!

Here is an outside clip of the One-Ball popping extravaganza, its also a lot more prominent with regular driving compared to previous

And here's the car after a playful day :smile:

Orranje Stealth Airbox - nice mod - you have to cut an 8cm extra hole in the bulkhead for the extra cold air feed!?!?!?!?!?

Bloody hell is the 'charger whine that loud on all of them?

yup - if you have a reduced pulley you will and if you fit the Orranje airbox you cut a large hole in the bulkhead (really 8cm??) then your gonna hear even more of it - I have a 17% pulley on mine and its got even more wine!!!!!

Crumbs - it sounds ace but not sure if that would grate after a while?

Yep 8cm to get the airfeed pipe through snuggly. 😅😅

Bare in mind that was WOT, it isn't that loud with normal driving.

Gave the car a quick clean up today after a weekend of fun.

Being the 1st time I've actually cleaned it, it's come up better than I thought it would! - Result!

Starting to really enjoy the car, took a little while to get used to the heavier steering and man-ly gear change consider everything I've driven in the past 3 years has been newer if not new.

Booked in @ 1320 on the 14th for a service and pulley package

Wicked mate looks good! I'm also finding it hard to adjust to the harsh gearbox but hopefully I'll get there. Also like many others it seems, I have the steering wheel noise from time to time, will need to get some of that spray :)

From what brief research suggests, 17% requires an uprated intercooler and pushes the power higher up the rev range where as the 15% is a good all-rounder that doesn't require an intercooler upgrade due to heat.

😂 weeeeeeeeeeeeee

Yes to a degree - I got an Airtec intercooler fitted when I added the 17% pulley - I did originally fit the 15% but then always wondered how much more go the 17% would give - you can fit the 17% with the standard intercooler only if it gets hot (not too much of a problem at this time of year) it will clip if your going for it or stuck in traffic etc - as I live in SW London traffics always going to be an issue - if you live out in the sticks it would be fine!! and yes the 17% gives you more weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:smile:

Liking the progress so far! Ordered myself the areo grill for mine how much of a pain is it to fit? Also ordered some springs (bring the MT hate!) and JCW gearknob. Hopefully get the 15% pully after all this Christmas buisness is done with is there any specialists up north that are decent that you know of?

You wont go too far wrong with this guide:

Once you get the old grille off, your kind of know what to do

@Brookie. Can advise you on Northern specialists

I'll be doing the 15% pulley I think, no need to push it.

I kind of found the upper (easier, lol) grill harder to do... took ages to get off and snapped half the bolts in the process. Couldn't reuse and they're hard to find to buy new ones, so just stuck mine in. The bottom one is a pain but okay once you get your head round what you're doing! Saying that, mine lasted 10 days then fell off :( currently in the boot!

The proper clips at BMW are nearly a tenner.. I ended up snapping quite a few so just used some locking nuts and washer that cost a quid, so far, so good.

Lol how come it's managed to fall off?
