Another williams to the forum

Hello, just found this forum and thought Id pop in to say hi. Great to know so many williams owner in one place.

Mines a 1995 RHD Clio Williams 2. It has been my daily drive since 1996. The only williams in Singapore (Yes, a little distance away from blighty). Superchipped; KNN drop-in filter; Magnacores 8mm; Torquemaster plugs; Ecotek; Black diamond discs/braided hoses; Ceramics-coated exhaust manifold; enlarged radiator and air-condition fitted.

Oddly, still one of the most reliable cars I have owned. And I do drive quite hard, though no track work.

Any other non-UK RHD williams in the forum?

Cheers.

Whereabouts in Singapore are you? Would have loved to have seen a williams outside the Fullerton for a nice photo session when I was there earlier this year. Would never have thought there would be one in Singapore! How easy is it to get spares out there?

Welcome to the club!

Welcome to Cliosport, must be quality having the only Williams in an entire country!:D

Woudnt say all Jap cars are crap. My previous drive, a Legacy RS turbo, was the fastest thing I have ever driven (heh, had tickets to show for it). The Williams may be a bit slower but far, far better in terms of driver satisfaction. Although, my jap-car driving friends are always puzzled as to how my FWD Clio can be so oversteery :)

Live on the east side of the island. But being such a small place, makes no difference in a fast car :).

The spares situation is not that bad as there is a fairly large dealership here - plus I get treated like royalty when I go to the workshop. Luckily, no major failure yet. The longest lay-off was 10 days - mostly waiting for the ignition unit from France. Had bigger repair bills for my Uno Turbo in 8 months than the Williams in 8 years! Just amazing.

As for pictures of my willy. Hmmmm.... my car, right?

Just another standard Williams with kerbed wheels.

Do I upload here on the forum itself or someplace else on this site?

Would be interesting to see a williams in singapore. I live in Malaysia just across the causeway. I drive williams 1 back in the UK. Its in storage right now though while im working over here.

Quality....very nice mate...I hope to have mine long enough to put that kind of mileage on.....Could do with a clean....;)

The gadget by the pillar is the electronic toll payment unit using cashcard.

The local weather is round about 35C during the day. The uprated radiator and electric fan copes reasonbly well. Even in half-hour traffic jams, the water temp keeps below 2/3 mark and oil temp is typically below 100C.

The engine bay is a bit oily right now (wont be a renault 16V; if it was bone dry). Will clean it up a bit and take some shots later. The aircon installation should be a rare shot ( I think I may have the only one). Heh, all the mechanics hate to service my car :)

Aircon...very nice....take it it has no signs of rust with heat like that, all the black bits seem to be doing very well seen as u have a lot of sun.

Thanks for the hearty welcome so far. It feel so strange to talk to so many people about the Clio Williams. After 8 years of silence, its a tad overwhelming. Most of the time here, I get mistaken for a dolled 1.4L mk1 that is driven very, very fast :)

About the rust; am afraid the rust cancer is quite bad here. Close to sea water and regular humidity of over 90% means rust spreads very fast once it gains a foothold. Fortunately, I have found a very effective anti-corrosion fluid that works like a charm.

I use a clear UV-blocking window film that keeps the interior in reasonable condition, plus I park underground where I live. I am really lazy in cleaning the car so I would say the car look quite good for the very little cleaning I do. As long as its mechanically tip-top, I dont worry much about the looks.

well keep upto the rust treatment....its the condition the matters on these cars.

Like the idea of air con....similar to the williams 3 which had a sunroof....maybe if there was ever a williams 4 it would of had air con as standard ;)

What tyres do you use....carnt make them out from the pictures.

Not to worry. Only rust spots on radiator and left A-arm/wishbone. Changing boths A-arms next week anyway; bushings getting too hard. And the ugly rust spot on the rad has remained unchanged for years with treatment.

Using Goodyear F1 GSD2. We still get them here, Thailand manufacture. I am a big fan of that groove pattern. Currently, on my 5 set. Dont get me started on tyres, I will go on and on for hours, serious. :)

Some more pics.

1. I get the "Williams" sticker all-round instead of the "Williams 2" in UK.

2. Aint pretty but works for me. The packed bay is any mechanics worse nightmare. Dont fret the rusty radiator spots; been like that since 96 with treatment.

3. Smaller aircon radiator in front of the water radiator. Did not take the aircon pump as I need to put car on hoist to shoot from underneath. Its totally hidden from the top.

4. From a mag shoot few of years ago. Together in the shot was the new Type R Civic, Mk1 Golf GTI and a tricked out yellow Daihatsu Charade plus another 20 odds hatches not in shot. Good day of "arseing around".
