Audiobahn 6 x 9 = Oh My God !!

Guys,

Ive got a 2002 Expression+ 1.2 16v clio, with a stealth shelf with 4 6x9s on it. I rencetly blew my £40 a pair Legacy 400W speakers, so was in need of some more!

I once heard a pair of Audiobahn 6x9s and was well impressed, so I thought to myself 2 pair of those should sort me out.

I bought them last night at £135 a paid, and fcuk me they are loud. Ive got 4 of them amped up, and at 215W RMS they are big, dirty and loud!

Well worth their money, put on a bit of "Smack Your b**ch Up" !

On that note, my car loves DMX - Its Dark And Hell Is Hot will truly test a stereo.

Anyone know what their subs are like ?

Also how is the bass on them?? I dont have an amp but dont need it running that loud anyways...

BASS is pretty cool, ive got 2 12inch subs anyway, so i dont need BASS from them.

Alpha Car Audio, http://www.alphacaraudio.co.ukhttp://www.alphacaraudio.co.uk. The Guy knocked me a tenner off because i bought two pairs - then the cheeky ba$terd tried to charged me £3 for connectors, i politely told him where to put them !

Definitly amp them mate, you just cant get the power from a head unit.

Theyre expensive, but worth its worth it.

Steer clear of 6 x 9s lads

Unless they are free

ps subs and 6 x 9s isnt a good idea. it would sound sh*t.

get good components up front and buy a sub.

Id say steer clear if you have or plan on getting a sub.

If not they are a decent way to get midbass in your car (some people dont like very deep bass)

but they are behind you

a good set of comps should provide good mid bass.

but thats imho

Is there a any actual reason why so many people dont like 6x9s??? They sound ok dont they? So what the deal? I havent sorted out my ICE proper yet but was thinkin 6x9s....im doubting them now though.

Its simply not a way to get good sound.

Putting the speakers that do all the work behind you is strange to me.

You will have improved sound if you fit replacement components and a sub.

Im gonna replace the comps in the back first then the front lot, then ill get an amp, then if i aint happy a stealth sub will go in boot i think.

Why mate?

the rears are in such a sh*t place.

i have removed mine.

You want good sound in front of you not behind

I just got off weight some infinity comps fairly cheap. Was gonna put em in the back cause mine have started rattling and distorting. The fronts seem to still b ok, but i wanted to put pheonix gold comps in the front but i got quoted like £280! Which is a lot mre than what i have right now... i could put the infinitys in the front for the time being i suppose, what u think?

So what dou have? A sub and front comps? nothing in back at all??

~David~

when i took a cooperS out for a test drive, it had the audiobahn upgrade on it.... the sound quality was brilliant....

i see what people mean now when they say get good quality fronts and a sub and ur sorted.. no need for 6x9s the sound was much better than the 6x9s and sh*t speakers in front i used to have

What do u think about putting the infintys in the back though? Rekon i should put em in the front for a bit??

Actually u can now buy 7.1 surround sound.... 5.1 is old skool. 6.1 came out like a few months ago.

to put it in leymans terms

you dont go to a concert and face away from the stage do you??

in essence that is what fitting 6x9s is doing

you listen from the front, not the rear

lol lol......

well guys. 6*9s are usually disliked. hell im one of them if they aint fitted right.

ive got coaxial 6*9s, 2 way components in the rears & 3 way components up front. Still yet to move all of it into my clio tho. But in my last motor, it was set up perfectly and the sound quality was wicked all round. My sub was not conflicting with my 6*9s, my rear speakers wasnt dragging the sound back (just to add a bit of rear fill) and the front was providing the majority of the sound, expensive bit of rear fill i know, but if ur gona spend the money, might as well spend a lil more ;) hehe

again - SQ cars, how many of them have 6x9s fitted???

none, and why???

same reason as i have posted above

at the end of the day, rear fill IMHO destroy the phasing of the sound (hence the reason i only have subs in the rear) (who cares about the passengers, its you who has to listen to it all the time, not them)

to be perfectly honest, im wasting my time preaching what i have learned over the last 4 years, everyone will do what they like regardless of the advice they are given

Must admit, I had components in the front, 7x10s in the rear, and a 1000w alpine sub in the boot, and I thought it sounded ok. I changed to components front and rear (brighter ones at the front than at the rear), and swapped the alpine for a coupla mofos, and it blew me away.

At the end of the day, its horses for courses. If you are happy with how your music sounds, then thats what matters, as you are the one who has got to listen to it. But in all fairness, components give a much nicer sound, just as bambam says. Glad I changed my set-up. The sound staging has a much better delivery (imo).

The acoustic properties of cars are crap anyway..which is why many of the top manufacturers dont produce car stuff (like naki only do HUs dont they?). Lets face it ICE installs are to produce the biggest f**k off sound so everyone looks at you..so how good the sound is is pretty irrelevant!

6*9s are the cheap way of getting some bass into your car.

A mate of mine has a Golf 4 1.6 and when he did his sound he went all Pioneer with replacement comps at the front, replacement coax in the rear doors and 4 220W 6*9s in a custom made parcelshelf which pretty my made an airtight fit in the boot.

Everyone who got in the car swore he was running at least a sub in the boot, and wouldnt believe otherwise till he showed them the boot.

it didnt cost much and did sound pretty decent.

Personally Id do my sound in stages, but I would get decent stuff.

I have the HU, and next step is comps in the front and coax in the rear.

Then when I have more cash Ill do a custom build in the boot (I want something very easily removable for 1/4 miling and trax days)

I think sound quality and clarity is more important than how loud it goes, but its down to the individual. Also depends on the type of ice install you go for (sound quality or pressure). The acoustics in cars is naff, agreed, but why suffer the standard poo speakers when you can try and cheer it up a bit.

Stee69, sorry but Ive never actually heard the audiobahn sub, but try and see if a dealer can give you a demo. Always worth a listen before you buy.

  BMW e46 320 Ci Sport

Heard an audiobahn sub amped with an audiobahn amp and it sounded very good. As for the 6x9 situation im gonna replace standard comps first and then think about a sub.

The main reason to avoid 6x9s is that subs make sound by moving air.....If you have 6x9s in a parcel shelf their cones will be distored by the air movement of the sub within the boot.

6x9s are ok if you are not running a sub - otherwise they will sound sh*t. I agree with bambam and TomClio16V. Get 1 good sub, a couple of amps and 1 set of 5 or 6inch front components. It will sound 70% better than the setup we are talking about
