Mad, How do they separate the materials or do the cats only contain one type?

Science innit.

Seriously though I’d imagine some sort of chemical refining process. Not seen it on these but went through a phase of watching people do it with gold and it usually involves chemicals/acids and then refining it down to a solution with the metal suspended in it which can then be separated

Surely the ktec one is just a cheap cat used also then? I've kept the pipes and just sold the cat...I got 625 notes in aberdeen
Which scrappy in aberdeen did you use?I'm aberdeen based. Was this for a 182 cat or 172? Cheers

I'd be inclined to keep it and wait for a bit. Apparently the shortage of Rhodium is expected to peak in 2024.

I'd say it's been
Keep on to it for 3 more years?

By that time he could have sold the f**king cat, invested half into Bitcoin, sniffed the rest and probably still be quids in 😂

It's a cat not an 18th century 1kg diamond encrusted ring

If I had that ring I wouldn't have spent my evening upside down trying to wriggle tar mats in the voids of my boot lid!

Be interesting to come back to this thread in three years and see how clio cat prices have done against BTC.

Clio 182 cat £420 (?)
BTC £36620

The original cat on my 172 cup is 100% coming off now, having something that's worth nearly 1/3 of the value of the car hanging underneath waiting for some scrote to chop it off is playing on my mind now 😬

Will swap it for a decat pipe to start with and see how noisy it is (it's a daily driver) I can always weld a sports cat in if it's too loud.

I'll keep the original in the garage until I can retire on its value 🤣

Sod the decat, just take it off and buy an eBay BM cat and scribe “haha” into it for if/when it does get nicked.

I can’t stand the smell of a decat car these days. Decat vs cheap cat is similar price too and no extra noise with a cat.

I’m old enough to remember when they became a legal requirement and at the time it was like it was this terrible thing for those of us that had our golf gti’s without them as std. now when I work on classics I hate it.

I have my two mobile tool carriers in my house at the moment and I’d taken them to a unit in my clio to fix a 246 Dino non start Friday. Got the car started in the unit and had it running no real time (due to the fumes) but I keep getting whiffs of the exhaust fumes sat here on the sofa just from the tool carriers being in the unit! Must be like an ex smoker hating smoke smell but it just smells so horrible to me these days and I seem super sensitive to it.

When I got my latest 172 it had a decat and I could smell it on my clothes, couldn’t wait to get a cat on. I drove the Dino about 10 miles Friday and couldn’t wait to get into the shower.

Cat prices have plummeted massively

Rhodium, Platinum and Palladium have all fell on their arse over the past week. Makes me smile inside all of these c***s scrapping full cars just for the cats and now they're struggling and realising weighing in a full useable car is stupid. Daft dog dick c***s

Have people actually been scrapping Clio Sports just for the value of the CAT?

Dropped by about 40%!

Wonder if it's got anything to do with car manufacturing slowing down because of microchip shortages. That would mean they wouldn't need rhodium for cats either.

People have been buying 172's decatting them and selling them on for the past few years mate. But normal cars have been squashed by idiots for the sole purpose of a quick quid and now they're struggling because they relied so heavily on the cat price being so daft

Think you’d struggle to buy one complete for less than £1500?
Or at least that’s what I’ve seen them advertised for roughly.

@Romanian Tyre Fitter how much of a hit has it took?
As below, prices have halved and people that were sat on stockpiles are now looking a bit silly
Do I sell the genuine 182 cat now is the question 👀
You'd be monumentally retarded to do so 😂

Also, a quick message to those that said "sit on them for a few more years"

How does that fair now? Time will tell if metal prices will rise again but I can't see it happening for ages yet. EV's don't need cats...

People who have bought cars without cats will most likely still be wanting them regardless of scrap costs which will increase prices too.

I remember getting one for £50 4 years back but that's when there were loads about.

Aye but now I've outed the price drop @Louis, so people will wanna give you 65 pence and a curlywurly like typical Clio owners do 😂

Right this is excellent news! First of all the scotes that nick them, they can go back to robbing pensioners. Secondly the Facebook trader brigade will stop the wanky ‘dOeS iT sTilL hAvE tHe OE cAt’ questions on cheap Clio’s...finally I may be able to find an OE clio cat to fit to my car! After the previous owner replaced it...because it was Rusty!

Its the rhodium that's absolutely tanked, everything else is steady away and hasnt really changed over the last 5 years going off the graphs

  RB 182 Cup
Glad I sold mine a few weeks ago. It wasn't really usable anymore anyway, as the inners were loose and moving about. Paid for my Gearbox rebuild, and most of the cost of having a custom sports cat made up.

Prices will likely increase again though, whether they'll reach the same high or not is another thing. Pretty sure the days of buying a genuine 182 cat for sub £50 are long gone now though.

Anyone sold a ph1 twin barrel recently. After a rough guide price 😂

When EV sales are well up we won't need to run cats anyway, they'll more than offset the toxins from a few ancient clios.

They'll just start nicking the EV's.

The batteries in those are worth many times more than a little catalyst.

How come, would have thought they'd be higher than ever with the demand for stuff right now.
