Clio Cup Racer No28 Rally Car

  Audi rs3/Clio 172cup
Id thought I’d start a new thread for the new car.

If you don’t know the build for my old car is here.

I bought an already rally converted ex Clio Cup race car. It wasn’t in too bad condition but it hadn’t rallied competitively in a few years so I knew it would need work to get it where I want it.

Off to the body shop tomorrow and still undecided on what colour to paint it 😂

Subframe off and normal 172 on for the time being so I can get the reigers serviced and springs changed to my liking with a helper spring added as well.

Will paint the subframe whilst it’s off and will source some more hubs as ones had a repair where the pin fits.
I know they’re supposed to be 2.2 or 2.0 Laguna hubs but the part number come back with all models from 1.6, 1.8, 1.9dti, 2.0 and 2.2d

Those rose joints on the outer still worry me a bit.

As for colour, maybe just white so it's clean for some vinyl? Yellow? I like yellow :ROFLMAO:

If you look at anything f2000 or maxi they all use a similar style wishbone that’s fully rose jointed. Time will only tell i suppose. The pin snapping seems to be more common.
I have thought about yellow myself, like the cup racer press car

Yeah I guess you're right. I think the quality of the joints makes a big difference. Just a bit of a concern as I knew a guy in Denmark who broke a couple on an Escort like my old one. Hopefully yours will be alright.

Yellow would look good. I'd probably stick to a flat colour, just so it's easy to match. RB would like quite good, but a factory colour would be a bit boring.

Thought it was , very similar spec to mine
It will be once it’s finished, this car wasn’t great spec to be honest but it should be a good little car once I’m do with it. Only thing I’m keeping really is the shell, beam, wishbones, front reigers and box. Everything else is going to be new

Has it got Reigers on the rear , as that make a massive difference to the handling , I have my engine coming back from PMS this week having had a full rebuild and upgrade , so at least looking for more torque , they recon around 200 lb ft , it was 242hp so a little more would be nice , also gone for one of there exhaust manifolds so should make a lot better , although it was good before.
I have PMS front arms on mine , and I need to get it set up properly when back together , as I did Jersey rally last after fitting them and not testing it , and it was pulling me all over the place , was a right pig to drive , with all the race car arms and ARB you could drive it 1 handed , in Jersey it was pulling the steering wheel out of my hand , if I can't get it driving like that again i'll go back to the race car set up

Regarding the hubs , they weren't fitted to all Laguna's , I think it was the 2.0lt diesel , i'll have to check what I had , I have bought a few over the years , but did buy a pair all reconditioned and built up which are in my spares pack from PMS , but just noticed it says no stock , it's cheap enough to buy these complete when available

No it doesn’t have reigers in the rear, just some cheap looking track coilover. I’ve been speaking to zoltan this morning about servicing the front and he’s getting me a price for the rear. I do have r3 ohlins 3 way on the blue car, so may end up taking the rears off that.

Yeah I think I’ve found some hubs now but there are loads of used ones on eBay at the minute as well. So not as hard to find as I thought they’d be.

Just make sure they are the correct hubs , some of them are too thin where they fit into the strut

Strip down of the front hubs this week after building up the cup racer wishbones and I found a few issues with what was on the car.
Not sure why they’d pay for the job on the adjustable wishbones to them then not use the correct size rose joint.
They’d just ground the pin smaller so it fitted into the joint!! The pin was also bent like a banana too, to match the pms track rod end which was also bent.
I’ve decided to get rid of the adjustable wishbones and fit the cup racer ones with new pins and bearings.
I’m still undecided whether to buy a new bump steer kit or just buy new inserts and run standard track rod ends

Door bullets sanded and carbon wrapped. I am having a few parts carbon skinned so tried wrap first to see how it would look

Picked the car up today and the colour looks better than I ever imagined. The pictures don’t really do it justice, it’s so bright.
Spent most of the evening getting the seat fitted, now I can work everything around that with the extinguisher going behind it.

That looks proper.. Btw can you tell me is the exhaust 2,25" or 2,5"?

Im thinking about a new setup on my stock ph1, currently 2,5" is on it, its very loud and although it has 3 mufflers, it's drony as hell..
Dont know if it benefits so much from 2,5" exhaust in terms of power, but i think that 2,25" would be more silent and daily friendly.

@Nathan Evans what's happened to the giant killing blue blur. I've seen it for sale, any movement on it this far? Be great to see you in the next spec up, especially shorter small single venues.

Also When you looking at 1st event? Anything in the pipeline yet?

I’ve got a pure Motorsport exhaust which is 2.5” which is designed to pass noise tests for Motorsport

My brother has sold his civic and bought the blue car off me minus a few parts I’m taking over onto this one.
It will be pretty much identical spec to when I had it, just on 45mm bodies not 48mm.
Currently having the gearbox rebuilt and diff serviced, as soon as that’s back we can start building it back up

Started on the rear of the car today. New Renault rear discs, new 182 stubs, AI Tech studs and copper nuts and pms 10mm stub axle spacers.
Previous owners again coming up with some funny bits. 172 cup stub on one side and 182 on the other 😂 Also no washers behind the discs so the bearings would of lasted 5 mins. I had to remove them off a spare beam I have.

Then rear bumper, lights, side strips and fuel cap fitted.

Hopefully get a bit more done tomorrow
