Clio Cup Racer No28 Rally Car

direct fit for Clio or have you modded them?
Yeah direct fit. You can get them from mc racing also for similar money if tweeks don’t have stock

Black wheel spam. City wheels £20 a wheel job.

So an issue I assumed would come up after looking at the geo.
I’m running the standard cup racer pins which are set for an on the floor ride height, i obviously can’t run the car that low so I’ve managed to source some short pins which hopefully will be here this week.

As you can see in the pictures, rally suspension with long droop has the geo out a mile.
I have fitted some shorter ball joint carriers to help the angle of pin on full droop but once the shorter pins are here I’ll try both ball joints to see what works best.

Have you even 1mm clearance from the rear inner arch with those springs lol.
Looks amazing :D
😂😂 Yeah it’s ok at the bottom but pretty close near the top. The ohlins it the other car were similar but we made bigger spacers on the inside to help it a little more

Just when you think you’re on the home straight and nearly finished.

I also haven’t been updating the blue clio but this is the 3rd engine drop we’ve done in 2 weeks. Getting regular this 👎🏼

Few issues but should still make oulton.
New crank dropped off and rods bought. Found that the head head been skimmed so the pistons had been coming into contact with the head, so thicker gasket is needed which is a pain, different cp ratio so will need mapping again.

We have found more issues with the engine now it’s apart but that’s for another day. 😂

Engine is back after rebuild and a fare few ££££ lighter but hopefully this time it will last.
Started putting it back together this evening, all being well it will be running again tomorrow, then just mapping to sort out next week.

Whilst waiting for the engine I managed to fit the bumper and bonnet pods

So the race engine went back in, came back out and a standard engine with grp n timing has gone in for the meantime whilst the race engine goes back to the engine builder again!

With such a crazy rush I managed to get the standard engine mapped on Saturday.
it produced good figures but in a straight race between this and my old blue one there is nothing in it. 212bhp I think not, more like 190ish

With so much work to do engine wise I had to fit the old dash back in as I didn’thave time to get the wiring done for the steering wheel controls. I didn’t fancy fitting the new dash with carbon centre panel to then have some switches changed to the wheel, instead of them being on the dash.

Then Borris announced an other lockdown.
I doubt the rally we go ahead but I have a track day on Wednesday and the livery is getting fitted tomorrow.

So loads has happed already this week. Wrap is on but not finished as I’m not happy with the job. It looks great but the cuts aren’t up to standard.

First proper outing in the car at oulton yesterday and it didn’t disappoint. Looking forward to getting it out on a proper rally

First competitive event in the new car on Sunday.
A very wet and slippy Donington Park.
After going out on the base wet set up on the reigers which still felt to hard we softened the clicks off even more and going into the last stage we were 3rd in class and 27th overall in a field full of R5 and WRC cars.
Unfortunately pushing to hard I lost it flat in 6th coming down crainers, I mannaged to get it back straight from being literally backwards, but when it gripped it sent me straight into the gravel.
The pace is there even on the lesser spec engine, but I have a lot of work to do set up wise and geo, the pms rear beam is coming off for a test too. And I couldn’t get the rear to handle how I’d like it.

You haven't ruined that lovely paint with gravel rash already have you 😂

Sounds like you were going well up until the off. Was a strong field from what I saw!

Yeah paint is all fine but that doesn’t bother me to be fair 😂 it will be battered before long.
Yeah was a strong field. Plenty of R5 and WRC.
Was happy with the pace after the first two stages. Can wasn’t nice to drive really on the set up I had at oulton. Will definitely get there with it with more time on the suspension and geo

More time in the car yesterday at Oulton Park.
Had to turn the flat shift bangs off. The miserable bugger at javelin didn’t like it. Surprised I wasn’t sent home with 3 black flags 😂😂😂😂

Getting there slowly but still miles away from how I want the car driving especially under braking, unfortunately the diff technology in the stdsa gearbox isn’t the best but me and @NorthloopCup may have a modification brewing for that.

This video highlights the issue where I can’t stop the car from locking under braking, so you have to be real easy and progressive with it.

In theory you shouldn’t loose to much time braking earlier and softer as long as the corner speed stays the same but it’s a technique that needs more practice if we can’t sort the ramp angles on the diff.
