Corsa 2.0 or 172FF

That Corsa is a chav-mobile anyhow. Might be quick on straights but like most Vauxhalls, show it some bends and it'll be left trailing in your exhaust fumes. Besides, what car would you rather be cruising in, a chavved-up Corsa or your Clio?

Very true ;)

And when more of the Vxr Corsa's come on the road that'll be us wiped again by a chav mobile :(

More so if there Remapped :(

I done a 2.0 corsa inmy 1.8 escort gti with a tonj of body kit on and only ruing 150 (esh) BHP !!!!!!!!!!!!!
All down to the driver at the end of the day i have had a lot bigger car's in my 1.2 !!!! always doing my mate's 1.6 astra's/escort's !!!

That corsa must've been running like a bag of nails to be beaten by an escort gti...I've owned one and it was REALLY slow!! What mods did you have to be running 150 bhp or is there nova maths involved there lol.

Cheers,

David

Its all down to driver ability at the end of the day.

My old XE Corsa has the legs over three different 172/182's on the strip at Santa Pod.

But as mentioned introduce some twisties and the Clio will be the better car hands down.

After test driving a Clio recently and giving it a bit of death at the peril of the Sales guy the one thing I noticed is the Clio really needs to be worked hard to make progress which is not a problem in my eyes but the Corsa has shed loads of low down torque and was effortless!

Overall the Clio is the better car and has an iconic status, XE Corsas offer Barn yeard technology and cheap thrills which I am sure some people will apprciate.

I just think people need to take their Clio Rose tinted specs off and actually acknowledge the fact they are decent enough cars for what they are and combining that with an engine with sporting heriatage you can't dismiss it as they generally cost peanuts to build/buy. At a recent track day at Brands Hatch track day two of my friends who have XE Corsas were going round miles quicker than the 172 FF and stripped cli 16v...why? They are capable cars in capable hands.

In this case as mentioned before its all down to drivers ability.

The way I see it it's very similar to comparing a 172 to a valver hybrid...I'd back the hybrid in 9/10 cases....

I'd back a stock Williams too. My old Williams is much quicker than the missus' 172 FF... quite a bit quicker. Need to test it against my mates totally standard valver, as I dont think there would be much difference

172 would paste a standard valver. If not theres something wrong with the 172

you'd think so lol.

I'm only going off what they were both tested at, as there's a nice straight private road near me we call the bridge test, which is a rolling 2nd gear start and Laura's 172 FF gets exactly the same time as my mates valver. Both totally standard as well, no mods at all. It may well be a slow one, as her Ph1 was a LOT quicker.

MCG - they were probably Valvers

I'd imagine, straight line he'd edge you out. Corners, well, it's a Corsa B heh, you'd absolutely fist him.

Do people still think the corsa will victimise me ?

As i aint had any runs ins lately with any 2.0's :(

  saxo VTS, Leon Cupra
depends on a few things mate, i the corners the clio FTW everytime (in my opinion) but the weight of the corsa will help it on the straights... my 250bhp Leon cupra R struggles against a mates C20XE corsa up to the high end of 3rd gear, after that i pull away but he does have the uber short F16 box, be a bit more even if your cousin has the longer ratio F20 box (which i think was std in the astra...). i reckon it'll be damn close on a private road to be honest!

  wait and see ;)
corsa all the way in a straight line i have a few mates wiv them n they will beat any 172 easilly even tho they have got rebuilt engines in but like ppl have sed show them a corner and it will b it the clios exhaust fumes

Not alot in it between a valver and a 172ff, very little infact. Renault are so inconsistent though so this is a sweeping generalisation.
I kept up with a 182, his was quicker but he did't exactly annhilate me and had it not been a d/c he wouldn't have had the power to get past until it got to 100mph+
I got pasted by a standard valver though.

LOL at the 'fast Escort GTi' posts heh. Lord, <has a flashback> that was hands down the worst 'sporty model' car I have ever driven - by a mile. If not infact, the worst car. It had 100% of NOTHING going for it.

My mate has just done a conversion of the 2.0 litre red top in his 1.2 16v corsa shell..
We had a race on the way up to bedford last week, straight road for about 7 miles.

He had me all the way up to 90-100 but after that my top end blew him away, wether or not he layed off the accelerator im not sure, but either way I won :D

I reckon it'll be fairly even, down to the better driver. Get a good start and nail every gear change you'll be fine. If you miss a gear change then your fucked!

I'd say the 172 would have the edge, but depends on how well that red top is running.

Handling wise, well we all know corsa's just cant go round corners, at least the 172 is designed to take that much power. All the converted corsa's ive seen just seem to rip them selves to pieces - wether or not that was down to corner cutting during the transplant i dont know.

Wouldnt bother racing on the roads though, you wont be able to proove anything other than who can drive more stupidly, more than likely someone will end up killing themselfs or loosing thier licence in the process. Save it for the track.

Have to agree with this. They are all very inconsistent though and differ greatly. My valver (pretty much standard) pans my mates valver by a fair bit (also pretty much standard), and my brother's one (completely standard) is between the two. I've also raced a ph2 172 in a fair few different scenarios and actually had the edge over it which surprised me a bit. Had a little play with a plain 197 as well and it couldn't pull ahead, although this wasn't much. They really do differ quite a bit.

  Astra van,Mk1 nova
A c20xe engine has 155bhp not 150bhp ;) what suspension set up is he running, you have to remember the corsa b was never made to run a c20xe so with out a very good suspension set up it wont handle, it would be like having a dead cow strapped to the front of his bonnet, in a straight line it will be nippy but on the twisties it will not be very good, you should have the upper hand if you have the minerals:cool:

All this talk of vauxhall makes me want to drive the sri, get the gsi out of storage and finish my A reg nova track car lol
