Cup - motorway tyre pressures...

Most of my driving is to and from work, and 75% of that is on a gloriously clear dual carriageway...so Im probably at 75-85mph for most of the time.

In the manual it says that for motorway driving you should set your pressures to 39psi (F) + 33psi (R)...so I did...and I think Im going to leave it that way. I find the feedback through the wheel much better, and having f***ed about on a few roundabouts I can tell what the backs up to very well too.

So my question is this...having my pressures at this higher level...am I gonna f*** anything else up...i.e. are the tyres going to be bald in 5,000 miles...and are these higher pressures OK for normal driving?

Any thoughts anyone?

ive always ran my pressures at 35psi in the fronts and about 40psi in the rears. i do 130miles a day (120 miles of those r motorway driving). i find this gives me good fuel consumption and the tyres last for years, although the ride is harsher than standard.

The harsh ride is not a problem for me...I feel it enhances the feedback...

40 on the rears seems a bit excessive, I havent changed mine since my last track day, running 38/34 and although breakaway is a bit sharper it feels better and for alot of high speed motorway work it will be better for your tyres.

Do 60 miles a day on the M1 in my 172, have 39/33 as the manual recommends and the tyres are lasting remarkabley well. Now done 30,000 on the original tyres with tread still left!

Maybe Ive got some special contenental tyres or something?

But seriously, I do drive the car hard and Im really surprised they have lasted this long. Recon Ill get a couple more thousand miles before they need changing.

My contis still had tread when I replaced them at 9.5k, but the grip had seriously gone from them.

My Willaiams (56,000 miles) has a pair of original Michelin Pilot HX tyres on the rear wheels. Theyve still got about 2mm of tread too! The fronts are the same tyres, but are newer.

A light little car like the Willy will be easy on rear tyres.

what should i run then? Been runing 34 all round. got the cup alloys on and normal contis. Feels better to drive with this pressure in them.

should I try higher or run higher in the front than in the back



any suggestions please

Read the handbook, it tells you the recommended pressures for 195/45 R16s mate...
