Hi
Nice install. Who makes that cage ? And do you know the weight by any chance ?
Cheers

Excellent result that mate. Car looks great :)

How do you find the solid engine and gearbox mounts ? My exhaust manifold hits on the subframe with just the Dogbone ! Hopefully having it all solid will help ?

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Cheers, rollers were reading low today also so potentially it could be higher :)

Solid mounts just make everything feel more direct IMO, but then anything would feel better than the 90k original mounts. I dont have any real vibrations when sitting still either like people seem to moan about. I do now get a slight exhaust rattle when pulling away for a split second but i think my the ruined exhaust mount isnt helping. As for helping your problem I have no idea if it will solve that im afraid :(

I went from new standard mounts and a poly dogbone to the vibratechnics mounts and it's loads better. Not too stiff and no noticeable vibration either.

What ram pipes have you got in the fogs? I've tried a couple of different ones but none of them fit nicely.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Agree on the mounts!

The same ones that I had in my flamer iirc, 13cm O.D ones I off ebay bonded in place and sprayed black, they can be a bit of a b**ch to get right but look good!

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

Looks good pal, paint the bullets to match the wheels perhaps?

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

Cheers Ben! Shame i didnt have the ph2 strips on sunday :(

These pics have also made me realise that the ride height it pretty perfect where it is!

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

So tonight ive been searching for the knocking noise ive been getting from the passenger side, when i turn the wheel with out the car running it knocks from passenger side. I grabbed the drive shaft and it seems to move back and forth. Presuming its the cause?

Cheers

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

yup, sounds like it. Both the shafts on the monaco were brand new when the engine went in, swap the hubs over and fit the ph2 shafts on both sides (including the center bearing on the long shaft)

Cheers Dan, sods law would have it that i sold the passenger side drive shaft off the monaco last weekend :(
However the car came with a host of spares so I do have another drives side one, might just swap that over for the time being and then sell the remaining ones and order two new ones at a later date. The spare one i have is still has the hub on it, when standing it up right it has no play in it so hopefully it will do the job!

Going to have to dump the the gearbox oil that Ive just put in also, only covered 70miles lol

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

Got home from work about 4 tonight, so i thought I'd crack on with the drive shaft. Went to the garage got got the spare drive shaft, still with the hub attached to it from Steve (old owners) first clio that he wrote off. Planned to go to my Dad's house to use the vice to hold the drive shaft to free it from the hub, this is when I realised I had locked myself out of the house! So I then decided to swap the whole hub/shaft over seeing as the spare had a ball joint attached to it as I couldnt be bothered to walk to my parents house to get my spare key and then drive back to use the vice. Everything came off nicely, went to fit the spare pieces and then I realised it had the 10mm ball joint on the spare and the wish bones were for 12mm. So I then split the ball joints, which was a major pain in the ass! Long story short I fitted it and now its done and I have no clicking/clunking noises. Moral of this pointless bundle of writing is dont lock yourself out of the house. Oh and ive now put more gearbox oil into this car than I have petrol :(

Half way through swapping the driveshaft/hub

This was the old drive shaft, fair to say it was ruined! No sight of the missing bearing

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

The curse of the sticky throttle has hit me! Bit of advice wanted really,
Throttle body removed and cleaned and new cable fitted in the past month.

Problem is when i rev the car the revs seem to stay at the same place, for example 2k. When im driving the car blipping the throttle makes it drop most of the time.
So after cleaning the throttle body I started the car up and it was still doing it, walked round the front as the filter was off and the throttle was shut! So what the hell is causing it to do this? Air leak somewhere maybe? Surely it cant be the ICV?

Advice/help welcomed on this one :)

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

I have the same prob , I have stripped the spring off the side of a spare one and sent in to a company that makes all kind of spring to see if they can make one with a bit stiffer spring so It will close better .

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

Thing is the throttle looks shut :/
That's what I thought , put a new icv on it checked for air leaks all ok on the 3rd tb all cleaned & no luck , and now trying to see if I can get an uprated spring made to make sure it will close

Take the inlet pipe off the icv, put your finger over the hole and see if it dies instantly. That'll tell you if it really is shut properly.

Got my neighbour to do this earlier, it didn't die! Obviously isn't shut! Going to dismantle it tomorrow and put it back together, see if it was an air leak. Then dismantle the throttle body completely and hope something fixes it lol

Keep me updated on how you get on with this please, be very interested in a spring if you manage to fix it!

Car is now dangerous to drive, with the revs rising to nearly 4k after engaging the clutch when stopping, its also embarassing. Another throttle body is being dropped at mine later so ill see if i can make it work!

Re: dmallett's titanium ph1

fully remove the butterfly, clean up the burrs on the inside of the housing with some fine emery paper, then put it back together. Don't forget a dab of threadlock on the screws
