Dr Jekyll's Ph1 172 Progress Thread

Coming along nicely Mark, whats next on the list?

I didnt manage to get out and do anything on mine due to the **** weather this weekend! :(

Its crap over here too mate :(

nice progress, loves a tidy up project :)

Thanks Ben! That's the aim is to get this looking tidy/tidier.

Where did you get the centre vents from dude? Didn't think they was that easy to fit?

I got them from Renault Wolverhampton buddy. Was around £24. They are a pig to get out apparently so I just pulled mine out not bothering if I snapped anything as the new one had been ordered. To pull them out you'll snapped the metal clips in the sides of the vent but the new ones just pop into the grooves. Simples :)

Also last week I'd finally got rid of all the manky residue around the center console! Took its time but it's now clean :)

We might get to see this car one day:coffee: meanwhile more pics needed

Yeah soon buddy. Seems whenever something is on me and Emily are doing something!

Great stuff mate thought you had to remove the dash to get them in. Going to order two now.

Coming along nicely now chap.

So did i after reading what you said but after i pulled it out i had a look and they just slip straight on. Happy days :) I hate looking at things broken! Not sure what had happened though as they took a month to arrive even though i had bought some more stuff from them after and they had arrived before these :S

Just checked my PM's and the vent was £23.70. Do you need both then or Just one?

Two mate, as the lad before me removed them to spray the centre console up. :(

That will tidy it up nicely, il just have to tape and cover up and spray It in the car.

Smaller plate lovers look away now!

I fitted my standard clean plate yesterday. I think the 3/4 plate looks better on the ph2's than ph1's plus i dont want to run the risk of getting pulled and fined, so...

Out with the old and in with the new:

Added a bit of CS colour (and smell) too. They had run out but Brian had a dig around and found a hidden treasure! :)

I still had no luck with my drivers side passenger window switch lighting up so Ben (Coops Turbo) sent me 2 he had. Tried the first one with no luck so then i tried the second..... We have light! lol So that's another ob fixed :)

I phoned up my local Renault dealer and have ordered a new throttle cable and some new windscreen rubbers as mine are pulling away on one corner. Hopefully i shall be picking them all up today :)

Was speaking to AlexW last night as i have a vibrating noise under the car on tickover and me not being confident with fitting the cable ive chatted him up (again!) to fit the cable and have a little look at the source of vibration.

Can you not ust remove the headunit and get some thinners on a rag and a good scrub up? Spraying it in the car with choke you to death!!

Here is the wish list so far (in no particular order)

20mm front hubcentric spacers

10mm rear hub spacers (no added camber)

Renault Sport mats

Sabelt steering wheel

Steering wheel boss (OMP or Momo)

Battery cover

Mint set of front seats

Stud and nut kit

Coilovers

New genuine grab handles

Ally footrest

New OEM gearknob

Get passenger door, passenger rear quarter and boot sprayed

Spoke to Renault Wolverhampton and they don't do the ph1 gearknobs anymore but that's not priority. I think my GF is getting me the mats for my birthday. Seeing how much money I have at the end of jan will decipher whether I get a panel sprayed or go spacers all round but we shall see.

What did you use to get all the manky stuff off? Been trying on mine but nothing seems to budge it!

I used Tesco's multi surface cleaner wipes. I took out my head unit and used my nails behind the wipes to "scrape" it off. I don't have long nails so I couldn't get in the hard to reach areas easily! Haha. However they foam up so a wipe does go far. Think it was a pack of 40 for £2 and they smell lemony fresh

Also wont 10mm spacers on back be a bit much without a bit of camber?

I was considering 10mm with -1.5 camber

I thought 10mm with no camber was fine, the 15mm need camber? I'd have to have a proper look I think mate.

I want it to have a little tuck, hence me going for 20mm on the front rather than the common 25mm and I'm sure I read that 10mm on the rear with no camber was fine. 15mm pushes it out to far hence needing the camber. Don't quote me though!

Yeah my plans were 20mm on front and 10mm on rear, will see how yours goes before i decide on camber then ;)

  A special one.
I have 20mm front which is perfect.
I have 10mm -1 rear as im sure Harpenden had problem's with just 10mm rear.

Also depends on how low you want to run the car.

  Many.
I reckon 10mm will be fine, Loads of people run it.

Full size plate doesn't look as bad as I expected, Still prefer the 3/4 though.

Have you got any pis of the rear with the spacer fitted Scott? Any angled shots? I will eventually get coilover as although the current setup is nice, comfortable and practical, it's just not low enough! I won't be going as low as yours though, but that'll be a while anyway.

I will have a look at harphams thread later on them buddy :)

Looking good and nice plans Sir!

I'm selling the momo boss I recently bought, reverting back to standard wheel, not sure if the 182 is different from ph1 though?

Got a few more bits done bought. (Heavy pic alert!!)

Bought some paint from halfords and painted the top mount covers.

Double fail though as the "iceberg" is clearly not and when fitting I forgot that the koni's sit higher through the top mount meaning that they hit the bonnet when closed as they are too raised :( I may keep them and get them painted in the correct colour for when I remove the konis to go lower.

Next was fitting the windscreen rubbers. What a pain in the arse that was! The sides were fine but the top one took some time but got there in the end! Once the old ones were removed, I noticed a lot of crap there so out came the antibacterial wipes! However I did get carried away and did all round the windscreen, the door shuts and door rubbers and the boot too!

Also recieved my new USB stick for the head unit as I kept knocking my other one. This thing is perfect as it hardly sticks out at all :)

I decided to see what condition the original side strips were in. The rears are fine, the fronts aren't mint but are ok for now.

Badges were worn too. I asked Scott (Phase1sr) about new ones from Renault as I know he enquired from Renault but they only sell the exclusive ones now:

I decided to spray my badges to see what it would look like before I bought them but it looks poo tbh.

The "iceberg" paint is too bright so I think for the time being I will flatten them down till they are smooth and paint them satin black and get @Ady182 at n2grafix to do some lettering in silver.

Next day I shot down to @AlexW place to get him to fit my new cable throttle. While he was doing that I fitted my standard side strips.

We then decided to see what he's 25mm spacers look like as a lot of people run them.

It looks better than I thought but i think that I'm still swaying towards 20mm tbh. It definitely needs spacing out regardless. Problem with that means I will need to go lower....

Thanks for your help again Alex :)

Also while the bonnet was up I was looking at the engine bay. As awesome as the Ktec induction kit sounds, I hate the way the engine looks with it all fitted showing my grubby engine and gearbox so I'm going to fit my standard airbox.

On the way home I grabbed a quick pic to show how the side strips look side on. I think I'm going to keep them on tbh but look for a mint set of fronts.

I picked this up from @Toms_clio today too.

All I need is the pipe that fits on the 90degree bend now as the ph2's are different. I may see how much Renault sell it for as I'm shooting up there tomorrow as I need a oil filter and washer as I plan to do an oil change with some oil that I got from halfords for £9! I also picked up some carpet underlay today and will put that behind the door panels to stop vibration when I fit my standard door handles.

They do look good but I think they look to flush with the arch when I eventually go on coilovers, plus I like a little tuck so 20mm ones I think I'll get and 10mm hub rear with -1 degree camber.

Your not hanging around that's for sure.. it was good when you got it. . Will be one of the best by the time your done :))

Looking good now, I love the little things you do to freshen up a car, it makes all the difference!

Did you need any special tools to replace the windscreen rubber? I need to do mine soon as the gap is increasing quite rapidly.

I can only go as far as my budget and time allow me unfortunately! Not enough of either! My plan is to get it as clean as I possibly can with a OEM+ feel to it, fingers crossed.

25mm front, 5mm rear. Everytime on a ph1 on F1's, its tried and tested!!

I know it has but I'm still unsure

It really does mate. And it's things that cost not a lot and just time. My center console took ages but wipes and hours later I'd removed all the grubbiness and now looks like new again :)

No tools needed buddy but make sure your feeling fit! I stood up on my door sills (only 5ft 6" so new all the help I can!) and I placed the end onto the corner and fed it in then used my fingers/thumbs/fists to pop/push/bash it in  The sides were fine but getting this in first was knackering! I tried sliding it in from one end to the other but it kept on popping out or would get stuck and that was very frustrating, plus I didn't want to bend it. Its hard to explain it but when fitting it you need to kinda hook it in then bash the strip down to knock it securely along, bit by bit.

Glad I wasn't involved with fitting that trim tbh!

As I said, it looks awesome with 25mm up front, Dan is right, however it needs 10 on the rear!

I just don't want to be disappointed when I do go lower and I either get rubbing issues or they look too flush.

I have it in my head now that I'll be getting 20mm fronts/10mm -1 camber rears. Anyway my GF has the wish list now ;) Hopefully she'll get them for my birthday in 2 weeks :)

I actually got them from my local Renault dealership. There is 2 types. One with the flat top rubber and one with a lipped top rubber. Not sure what you have but mine came in a set and was just under £20. I believe the lipped ones aren't in a set.
