FF Inferno 182

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

So I've had a quieter centre section made up at Exhaust UK in Sheffield, they even fitted my cat back in. Finally have a exhaust which sounds how I want it to.

Also after my old number plate light being corroded I finally got my new one through the post.

Old manky light unit

Nice new one with LED bulb

Also booking myself a track day taster session, received a voucher from my old place of work and can finally take my car on track for 20mins LOL

Pinched this off another forum I'm on

Simon popped round to mine this morning so we could change his brake discs and pads all round, and he also had a lambda sensor to replace (pre-cat).

Rears first. The only brake changes I've had experience with are on my Impreza - and for anybody that follows my thread will know it was a massive pain in the ass. We kept score throughout the job to see what was easier/better designed/etc.

The rear disc on the Clio was all self-contained with bearings and stuff. This meant we needed to go to Halfords to get a 30mm impact socket for the hubnut (1-0 Subaru IMO)

New vs Old:

Old caliper bit thingy with the used Mintex pads in:
20130525_110726.jpg

All of the bolts came out so easily, it wasn't even funny. (1-1)

We wanted (or rather, I wanted) to clean and paint the calipers too, so after dismanting the rears we jacked the front up whilst my missus went to get us a paintbrush.

Front (old) arrangement:

New disc on:
20130525_124524.jpg

So far, in an hour we had done what took two days on the Subaru... (2-1 Renault)

Paintbrush arrived about now, so I opened up my paintshop whilst Simon continued dismantling the fronts:
20130525_124532.jpg

My Hammerite hadn't been opened since painting my FN2 calipers two years ago, so had a bit of skin to peel back first... hence the mess.

We got all the painting done, then went inside to watch F1 qualifying while it got something like dry.

Back out after quali, and started re-fitting the rears:

Fronts:
20130525_151210.jpg

The front calipers were easy to remove (3-1 Renault) but replacing pads was a bit awkward compared to the Brembo's on the Impreza (3-2 Renault).

I got to work putting the wheels back on whilst Simon scurried around underneath to replace the lamda sensor.

Got the car back on it's wheels:

We cleared the Engine Management Light using my bluetooth OBDII adaptor and smartphone app, and Simon cleared off to test the brakes.

If we don't hear from him, we fucked up somewhere and that's end of thread.

Going on holiday in the early hours of tomorrow and somewhere in my owning my car it has become a tradition for me to have a clean car before I go on holiday
So the old girl got a wash and hoover out this afternoon whilst the sun was shining and thought I'd go grab some photos

Got some work to do on it when I get back, need's track rod ends and lower ball joints replacing as there's some knocking coming from the front end. Quite tempted to get some cooksport springs for it seeing as suspension for cup packed 182's is a pain in the ass to find!

6th July 2013

Decided to debadge the rear ready for when I purchase a RS200 badge to replace the 'Clio' badge.

Luckily with it being a red hot weekend, the badge was already softened up and came off with little effort. The only thing I was really left with was 3 water marks left in the paint from where it hasn't been washed properly.

Luckily with some AutoGlym Super Resin Polish the water marks came off with little to no effort

Only problem is you can see a feint line where the badges have been, so will get my friend Kyle to use his machine polisher to do a light cut on the paint to remove the marks.

Also bought myself a Skoda splitter which I had all intentions of fitting today until I realised at 4.30pm that I hadn't bought any self tapping screws so that was out of the question.

I did however manage to get both track rod ends replaced. After seeing that brand new ones are incredibly stiff and you can't move them, and comparing them to what I took off there is no wonder that my steering felt vague at best.

Afterwards went out for a drive to Squires in Sherburn in Elmet for a glass of coke and icecream, make the most of what weekend was left.

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

Mate how did you get your exhausts SO shiney? Products? Method?

Mine's currently dirty and want to scrub it up so it gleams like yours does! Nice job!

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

Just Autoglym metal polish and an old microfibre cloth. Just need to dab some onto the dried carbon and then leave for 10seconds or so and then attack full force

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

Goal on Sunday was to replace my track-rod ends which had lots of play and were knocking.

Should be an easy job if nothing is seized up:

20130707_154302.jpg

The nut holding the TRE onto the hub assembly loosened off fairly easily, but about halfway up the thread the bolt just started to spin in the joint. We tried molegripping it, but ended up using the Subaru toolkit:

20130707_163628.jpg

Cut through half of the bolt then smacked it with a hammer, result!

20130707_163621.jpg

Another magic solution honed on the Impreza then came into play to remove the TRE from the rod, after marking it's position roughly:

20130707_163957.jpg

All off, time for a breather:

20130707_163951.jpg

Old vs New:
20130707_164026.jpg

Went back on with nae drama:

20130707_164433.jpg

Other side should have been a rinse/repeat - but this time we couldn't slacken the nut off at all, meaning there was no room to sneak a dremel in underneath. I went to plan B which was used to dismantle my mates old shocks from his Impreza, which was to grind a slot in the bolt and then use a large flathead to hold it still whilst spannering the bolt off:
20130707_165730.jpg

This allowed us to get about a centimetre clearance before it jammed up - then we dremelled the bolt off as before.

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

Decided today I'd go round to Kyles house and we'd tackle the front splitter I'd bought a couple of weeks ago.

Skoda Splitter by Simon_89, on Flickr

Started off removing the front bumper, 2 x 10mm bolts and 6 torx fittings and a sharp pull either side of the bumper by the wing and it looked like this

Disconnected the headlight washers and fog lights and you end up with one bumper-less Clio

I knew before that one of the previous owners had hit something as part of the front bumper cover was damaged, but my god it must have been something of a decent size to mangle the AC condenser

9277829036_6f2816d0cf.jpg

Untitled by Simon_89, on Flickr

It's worth noting at this point we did remove the headlight for Kyle to attempt to remove some of the UV damage that is common on these headlights

9277822240_492f5ed72b.jpg

Untitled by Simon_89, on Flickr

Unfortunately his pad wasn't aggressive enough but it has made some improvement but I didn't get any photos as my phone felt like it was reaching 50oC

The splitter is held on with self tapping screws and seems to have enough strength in it to resist bumps

Photo of the splitter fitted to the car. Not bad for less than £20, compared to a £160 Renault item!

I've seen this a fair few times down Abbots road, looks very nice.

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

After nearly 2 weeks of waiting my cup spoiler finally arrived, got it for a lot less than they normally go for but it does need spraying as it's the wrong shade of orange

Can't believe you park it on abbots - its like beruit.

Haha yeah I wouldn't like to leave it there for too long, especially with the amount of students walking past to/from college, too many cars get damaged these days

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

Luckily I've never had any bother, had numerous cars down there including my Ibiza which had too much money spunked into it.

Anyway the spoiler and bullets are currently with my friend at the bodyshop he works at being prepared and sprayed tomorrow morning. Looking quite forward to getting the cup spoiler on, at least it'll look like a proper Clio then :).

The doors currently look awesome without any bullets on them

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

Went to meet Andy at his work this morning, his 'small' body shop location turned out to be bloody huge

He showed me his Corsa C that he bought as a write-off and is repairing and to be honest you wouldn't know it had been in an accident.

He went to show me the spoiler and badges but had some bad news that the paint on the spoiler had reacted slightly and agreed to doing it again which is awesome of him :).

The badges look awesome and I spent no time at all fitting them! I'll let the photo's do the speaking, considering the paint is pearlescent the paint match is brilliant too

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

He is doing it yeah, unfortunately a bit of the paint had reacted whilst baking. So he is redoing the spoiler and I'll have it sometime in the week. For the money I'm paying I can't complain :)

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

As you may have seen earlier in the thread the exhaust wasn't the cleanest with a decat and I gave it a good old scrub with some Autosol. Well with Trax coming up I decided to really get on top with the cleaning and teamed up with some more Autosol and an old toothbrush.

I had this to tackle with...

Interesting read through the thread, the car has come on really well chap :D

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

hanks guys, just waiting on a new brake light for the cup spoiler and in the next couple of weeks it's getting a full detailing off my mate so it should looks pretty sweet :). Just a shame the wheels need refurbing but that's to sort after christmas

Re: First 182 - Inferno with Cup Suspension

After unfortunately finding out whilst fitting the cup spoiler that the brake light didn't work I got onto Adam and got myself a new one ordered. Once I'd bought myself a TX20 bit from Halfords I decided to crack on and get it sorted this afternoon.

Don't feel like I'm one of those people who knowingly drives around with brake lights out now

Cheers chaps, finally getting something more like how I want. Still a few other things to do but leaving it for a while now. Looking at changing the exhaust to a Piper item possibly in the next couple of months....
