Fitting a CD Changer..

.. Is it easy?

I've got a 182 with the std stereo(Turner List) and want to fit the std CD changer(VDO 0600).

I'm getting it cheap and want to have a go at fitting it myself under the drivers seat.

Can anyone offer any advise, where to run the cable etc.. Or by any chance someone works for Renault and as a PDF step by step guide??

Thanks in advance

You sure you've not got the Update list headunit , not the Tuner list in your 182 ? As far as i know they have different connections on the back of the unit , plus you'll need to take off the dashboard to run the cable to the changer . Do a search on removing the dash .

The connections are the same but the way in which they work is different.

I removed the changer from my 172 and installed it in my 182. Cars from early 05 onwards have the Update List (CANbus) headunit, earlier ones have the Tuner List one which should work with the autochanged.

I just ran the cable out the back of the headunit, along the bottom of the dash, then used the clip supplied to clip the cable to the bit of metal near the bonnet release, then ran it along the door sill and out under the passenger seat into the changer. Really easy to do. I also did the same in Bubbles 182 when I sold it to her. In fact come to think of it, hers is an 05 182 so it probably does work with the new Update List headunits, I'd try it before going to the trouble of installing it though.

This is my headunit, sorry for the gash photos.

Lee- Did you have to remove the dash?

I've tried searching for the 'How to remove the dash' guide, found the link but the page has gone..

I think it works with both units to be honest. I'm sure Bubbles 182 has a new unit. I can't remember if I tried it in the Trophy, all I know is I couldn't get the changer under the seat. I'd make sure it works before you install it properly.

I didn't remove the dash no. Just pulled the unit out and got my hand down the back to feed the cable through a hole which lead out and under the dash. When they are factory installed they run the cable the cable out the back of the centre console and up along the top of the dash around the passenger airbag.

I was led to believe that the new headunits , cabasse update ones have a different connection for the changer lead than the older tuner list units .

Does any one know if this is true?

Get Bubbles to check which version of the Renault headunit she has. If it's the latest one then the answer is they are both the same.

The one I put in hers originally came out of my 03 plate 172, then went into my 04 182 and finally into Bubbles 05 182 as it wouldn't fit under the Recaros.

Sorry to hijack this, I have just ordered an audio loom for a Nokia car kit which is being installed tomorrow. Im wondering how I identify which head unit I have (Jan 05 car) and which connectors are different between the two?.
