cambelt tensioner is so off that the belt has been flapping about and that's knackered too, also the aux belt was fitted 1 tooth too far out on the crank pulley and thats been shredded (lucily not snapped)

i need a beer

any idea what "specialist" did the work?

i tried to ring your land line today Fred and it doesnt work

  Lionel Richie
were moving landlines rob because BT are ripoff merchants, mobile is still on ;)

yes i know who did it, and no i'm not saying, but they need f**king shooting, this makes number 7 i've redone from them now (yes i'm not joking)

  53 Clio's & counting
I can take a guess who, probably the place I meantioned last time I was up at your place........

  Lionel Richie
no name dropping please, i want this thread to show that just because it says "specialist" doesn't make you qualified!

I'm bloody glad i know my arse from my elbow!

IIRC specialist means they've worked on a specific model car more than once?? ;)

Man thats f**king miles out tbh, shocking.

Nice one! thats out a fair bit

I dont get it, if people are using the correct tools and tensioning the belt correctly how can they get it wrong?

is this a case of not using the correct tools you think?

I've tried a few 'specialists' now with quite big consequences. I think the last stop is Fred, even if it is a 400 mile round trip I'd rather have someone with propper knowledge, not someone who claims to have the knowledge working on my car

Thats miles out, surely the locking tools wernt even used when that belt was fitted.

looks like the amount it's be out by adjusting the tensioner after taking the tools out. shoddy.

Iceberg......do you see why we were saying what we were on your thread?

i'm going to see if the grooves in the cams line up tomorrow morning, its as if whoever did it "forgot" to use the crank pin

fred i hope you will have time to look at my car tommorow, we think it is running on two cylinders now :(

shocking work done, i almost think they should be named and shamed, at least then it would put people off going and making the mistake which will inevitably cost them later on :(
i can perfectly see where you're coming from, hats off to you for being polite about whoever it is to be honest, most people wouldn't hesitate!

It's my car, I've only had it 5 months and to be perfectly honest I didn't realise it was running badly. Only reason it went into Fred is because the aux belt was fitted incorrectly and shredded itself!

I can't agree more with this! It's a shame others will still go to whoever this is, because you can't name and shame. I mean if it was just the one off fair enough, but 7 now by the same company/person, i think this gives you the right to name and shame!

I'm not into naming and shaming. I'm sure Fred wouldn't like it in his business or putting his name to naming and shaming.

It's unfortunate and shocking that this is the 7th from the one company and how many overall from other companies? I'm sure the list goes on!

Just to Echo what Chris said i'd drive the 400 miles round trip to Fred's if I ran an RS. Without hesitation. You can't buy experience and qaulity like the Potato man. Infact i'd even take my rusty Ford to him if my Dad wasn't a former master tech.

They probebrly did use a crank pin Fred but if they didn't get it in the correct web it will do that to... seen it myself too many times. Even the manual warns you to check you have actual TDC on 1/4

Don't let them get you down though... I love putting things right

I'll be contacting the 'specialist' letting them know how poor the job they did was. I'm not name dropping as I'd like a genuine reason as to why they messed it up so badly!

yes i see the point, like i said i understand why if you get a f**k up from someone, but not when someone asks a simple question about the process or parts involved in the process.

I have read up how to do it time and time again and tbh it doesnt look right rocket science if you use the tools and follow the proper procedure.

I think where people go wrong on this is taking a shortcut. even by tightening a pulleys too early or not degreasing the shafts when fitting the pulleys. easy steps for a normal punter to not do just to get the car out quicker.

Does everyone change the pulley bolts for new ones if they have taken them off?

If you've been here long enough it's fairly obvious anyway! Name and shame just gets peoples back up. At the end of the day they know who they are and it's only a matter of time before people just clock on...repeat business is good business, and you won't be getting much if you keep that up, no matter what it be that you do for a trade! Fixing peoples fook ups is a good way to remind you that you're at the top of your game ;)
