in a dilemma

  renault clio 1.2 16v
so i joined this forum quite a few months ago.
i own a 5 door 1.2 expression+. i asked all the questions about doing her up etc and got the response i thought id get.......

wait until you can buy a SPORT!!!!
so this wonderful joyous time has come for me!

but i'm in a dilemma and really cant decide between either............

a racing blue 182 full cup pack

or.....

a Renaultsport clio trophy

id really just like to hear some pros and cons if there are any and just peoples opinions on the two i understand that they are both 182's.

personally im more swayed at the moment towards the trophy. my reasons......

im not the sort of person to be slamming and doing crazy modifications.
im a person who really looks after my possessions and id like to look after and maintain a trophy as more of an investment and as something im gonna keep forever. Due to there only being 500 in the uk and build numbers etc this does NOT mean in anyway i wouldnt seriously look after and maintain a 182 cup though!

with all that out i look forward to hearing your responses

cheers guys Joe :)

You buy a 1.2, you take sh1t.
You join Cliosport, you take more sh1t.
Your post count gets a little higher, you take less sh1t.
Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere of Trophy ownership and you've forgotten what sh1t even looks like.
Welcome to the layer cake.

Id have to say a Trophy.

Im guessing they would hold their money better than a normal 182?

If you can get a decent one and don't mind spending the extra, Trophy.

Nah, i bought it on 170k. Company owned till 168k, then the 2nd owner had it for 2k before flogging it to me.

Crazy mileage, but still pulls like a good 'un :D

ah thats fair enough man, and that actually makes me feel at ease to know that even with all that mileage yours is still going strong! really nice to hear!
dont suppose you have any pictures you could post in here for me? would really appreciate it. tried going on to your profile to look but im still finding my way around the forum lol

I seriously want another trophy, stop posting pics dave!!!

For the OP, get a trophy, THE best handling car I've driven on the road, good investment as well as prices will soon start rising

Depends what you want out of a car and your own preferences.

I considered a trophy but went for a cup packed RB 182 as I prefer the colour, its got all the toys in it and it was a fair bit cheaper. A bonus is i dont have to worry about damper refurb's and fading paint. Personally I hate the standard 182 alloys so bought a set of Turini's for it and its now the car I wanted (minus a gearbox :( )

I dont really see a Trophy as an investment to be honest. Yes there are only 500 of them so they will fetch a premium but you'll pay more for one in the first place and they are only going to go down in value.

The other question is:-

Are you goin to start "enhancing" your car when you get it?

If YES: get a FF 182
If NO: get a Trophy

Why have a cheap Tesco own beef burger when you can have some prime Organic, free range, Irish Sirloin (nowt to do with cars i know)

The Trophy is the top of the tree why settle for less.

Depends if you're then going to pour a bottle of HP sauce over it

No doubt a few have been smashed or people have upgraded the suspension with Ktec coilovers ect. That leaves a few tidy low mileage examples. And you think the price will only drop?

IMO if you can find a good one and look after it, I think it will hold its value better than any other Clio 1*2.

Obviously we're not talking mega bucks or in the next 2-3 weeks.

So you'd pay £4500 - £5000 now for a trophy with 65K miles and a FSH.

3 Years time do you really think people will fork out £5k for a 10 year old 182 with circa 100K miles on it?

Unless you plan on buying a stupidly low mileage one and never use it but still have it serviced annually at Renault for around 20 years or so its going to lose money.

3 years time I bet the price difference for a Trophy Vs a FF 182 will be the same if not less than it is now so an investment it is not.

Not meaning to have a dig / offend anyone just my personal opinion / prediction.

I wouldn't touch it with that kind of mileage on, 45k or less can be had for £6k. If i we're after a 12k mile a year car i'd be looking elsewhere.

I doubt any of the young sprogs on here would fork out for it but you put a normal 1*2 made from 5000 or so next to a Trophy, one of less than 500 left and see which ones worth more.

Say in three years its done 60K. Not a chance will anyone fork out anywhere near 5K for it when its 11 years old (look the price of 306 rallye's now)

This is Clio 1*2 perfection. And who said they wouldn't hold there value.

It hasn't head it's value it cost over £12,000 5 years ago. IMO the owner hasn't really had his money's worth out of it.

Yes.

Normal 182 with 65k: £3000
Turinis: £450
Ktec Coilovers: £400
Recaro's: £650
TOTAL: £4500

vs. Trophy.

To compare it to a 306 Rallye is daft, we both know the Rallye was just a cheapo version of the Gti6, no additional benefits whatsoever, just less to break. As such, they have no additional value whatsoever.

It will be more akin to Mk1 Valver @ 10p, vs Williams @ 3 grand.

  RB 182
You look at some old Escort Cosworths selling for £20k still.........to me or you it aint worth that but to someone it's worth it.

Different kettle of Fish. Its not exactly an Escort GTI with some Recaro seats in it is it?
