Bumper removed.

28307670634_350175dde1_z.jpg

Now i know from reading a few threads about these ports that some trimming of the fog brackets need modifying. This doesn't bother me as the foglights wouldn't be going back in anyway, plus my bumper is far from mint so "if" i ever decided to re-foglight the bumper i'd just but another one.

Bumper hacking away!

While the bumper was off i decided to remove the carbon cannister.

At this point i went to put the bumper back on but it was fouling. Upon investigation, it turned out the back of the ducts was hitting the chassis! Out with the grinder to cut a piece out to make way for the ducts! Had to do this both sides. Ive not read anybody else needing to do this so perhaps ive bought longer bass ports? Just a heads up if you want to still do yours on sunday @MrBlonde

I did think about cutting the ducts shorter but i didnt want to see the cold air feed that i'll eventually fit through the mesh. I'll figure this out when i fit it.

Fitted the wheels and photo whored it up!

These 2118's are the wider offset of ET38, not the normal ET43. They sit better than my old cup turinis of the same offset, which is weird? Anyway, i was originally thinking of getting 20mm front spacers and 10mm rear hub spacers, but now im thinking of getting 15mm front spacers and 5mm rear spacers (non hub)

Remember this is still on the cooksports/cu shocks setup. The Gaz coilovers are taking a tad longer, but i've been kept updated of the progress on them. Hopefully i'll have them next week

I also had a spare set of pagid pads that were brand new, it seemed. I decided to fit these for 2 reasons. 1: To see what they are actually like compared to the current DS2500s and 2: To see if it eliminated the knocking. Well the knocking is still there, could be gearbox mount related? Also there not as good as the ferodo pads, as to be expected, but they do give off less dust. Ill change them back next week or so.

Came across your ph1 progress thread last night whilst searching ph1 stuff... was a really good read, then I got to the end and saw you dismantled it and sold all parts and had it crushed...

I was like "whaaaaaat?????"....

Also wished I'd spotted it 8 months ago as I would have bought bits off it for sure!

I miss that car! :( But it made sense at the time.

Looks great

How you finding the tyres?

Double post

This a keeper i moght aswell ask?

I like the tyres Stef. Had them on the ph1 and was impressed with them. I also got them for £240 for the set, delivered! The joys of 15's!

And yes, this is a keeper!

Looks so flipping good, will look even better when you get the coilovers.

I also want some 2118's now!

Wheels look very smart, excellent choice. I like this car very much, except for the cooksports they need to come off asap and be sold really cheap. [emoji6] [emoji23]

Looking great, bet you're happy you finally got those 2118's on! Look awesome in white too. :tongueout:

Beautiful combo with the blue paintwork and white wheels :stig: May have to try the Yoko's at some point in the future, heard some good reviews on them.

Stunning  that's the best word that can describe it........ I am absolutely loving those brake ducts, looks oem from the front!

I defo agree the car needs coilover lows to pull off the 2118's due to them being 15" but that's all in hand so it's all good in the hood!

I will look into that Scott. I'll need to do something as I'll be forever cleaning them!

Bloody grazed the front bumper parking up today. Luckily it was the father in laws car, who just laughed about it! But seen as the bumper is far from perfect, I'm actually thinking about having some quick release buttons on it.

It'll be the Pitking ones if so.

It's ok I wasn't paying attention and went to reverse into a car on the forecourt. I tell no lies, I looked at the windscreen and thought it could do with a clean, stopped the car. All I heard was a slight squish with the osr bumper, looked and said ffs. Luckily no damage.

Pointless story lol

Haha!

Tbh I'm not that bothered. It's a fun, tinkering toy! That's what I'm telling myself from now on. That way I feel I can relax and enjoy it, rather than trying to mint it up and worry when I park it, etc.

Sadly I'm not passed the stage of being bothered where I park it. People are knob heads lol.

I'm not there yet either 😂 only out on dry days, park it as far away as possible, clean exhaust tips every time I've been out in it to keep them bling bling......... oh dear 🙈😂

Mark if you don't mind me asking bud. What did you use to make up your brake ducts?

I'd like a similar setup on mine!

Had to go in central London on saturday to do a bit of work on a customers car. Took this as it looked quite cool.

28985181345_f8dc3246d0_z.jpg

Gave the car a good run. The Pagid pads are actually better than i thought! They perform well and give off very little dust compared to my DS2500. This after 90 miles.

28908847011_c43f7088de_z.jpg

Me and Steve @MrBlonde took our cars to my work as we both wanted to do a few little jobs on both cars.

28699324730_97295fc0fc_z.jpg

28908866881_60dfcc10ed_z.jpg

First off was to put a 23ohms resistor in my carbon cannister plug as i had the EML light on.

28880191302_cf511ae0fe_z.jpg

This worked for a bit but unfortunately it came back on. I plugged the carbon cannister cap on and plugged in the electrical plug (Ive read this also removes the light) and still no luck. I took out the resistor today and it looked burnt and upon further reading, i actually need this one:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/wirewound...&ranSiteID=TnL5HPStwNw-yB1tupP1amuf8ZMQso15GA

Will go to Maplins tomorrow and give it a try. Its a piss easy job to do.

Decided that i wanted to paint my inlets as recommended by @LiquidYellDan as i didn't like the the all silver look.

Timing mark...

28908919801_9e95f18210_z.jpg

It made sense while the inlet was off to fit the new red HT leads

Old.

28368381803_27eff46d83_z.jpg

While the engine was being worked on, i wanted to check the gearbox mount as i though it may be the cause of the knocking im receiving. The solid gearbox mount was fully intact and looks in VGC so it wasnt that. However we did put a pry bar at the back of the manifold and did hear a knocking. Turned out the culprit is the shagged/bodged center mount so ill order a new genuine one and get it fitted asap.

And back to the painting

All painted and fitted up

28985568755_32bd1b0f5e_z.jpg

It looks good, however im still unsure on the grey. I think id like slightly lighter so im going to buy this stuff as it goes further and its a nicer colour. Plus i can do the fuel rail guard too.

http://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...s/halfords-wheel-paint-anthracite-spray-500ml

Next job was to change the headlamp bulbs as the ones i had were a bit dull at night. While the bumper was off, i cleaned the insides of the housings both sides. Luckily i had these bulbs spare in the box of spares that came with the car.

The black bits was actually done by somebody else a few weeks back (only 2 of the 3) but you can see the grazing

I had some touch up paint made when i bought the car so i used it with a little paintbrush to dab the black bits so its not so obvious.

I love the brake ducts! Rather proud of myself!

@RMDavis all they are is bass ports that are 100mm/4" wide.

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Monacor-MBR-100-100mm-Bass-Reflex-Port-Tube-/142026244109?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150519202351%26meid%3D91085d71c6df443e9ae59ab54bdb2136%26pid%3D100408%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D201475761432&_trksid=p2056116.c100408.m2460

I had the mesh and fibreglass at work already.

Thanks guys for the comments! Today when driving to work my drivers inner arch decided it didn't like being there so it gave way. Thankfully it hit a van behind me that was so close up my arsehole so my loss, he's gain! But now it means my brake ducts are actually working as there's no arch blocking it. And because I've removed the carbon canister and fogs there's nothing in the arch well now.
Will do the other side I think as I've removed parts from there too, just need to relocate the horn. It's also temping me to add quick release to the bumpers even more so now!

Rob, have you got any pics of the spacers and studs you have? With the wheels off so I can see how they sit and also with the wheels on so I can see how much studding you have left once all fitted. I'm thinking of getting the same.

Yours are the PMS studs? I have seen similar but cheaper. Still high tensile and are 75mm long with allen key ends and I'm thinking of doing what you've got on yours, regarding spacer size/make amd going down the studs route.

@RMDavis

Only just seen this tag... Sorry Mark!

I'm afraid I haven't any photos of my setup, but I'll try and get some over the weekend for you.

There's quite a big difference between the front and rear, in relation to how much stud/thread is left. Mainly because of the difference in the space thickness, and the size of the discs.

Before I fitted them I did speak to Nick at PMS who said what I'm running should be absolutely fine with his stud kit.

Cheers Rob.

I'm thinking of getting 75mm on the rear (may run a 5mm spacer) and 83mm on the front (running the same 15mm spacers you've got)

That way, it'll give me the extra threads I'll need.
