Thanks for all the kind words guys! This car will still be used daily (Unless i can swindle using the wife's car and she walks to work!) so the miles will start to rise again. Not an issue as i keep it regularly serviced anyway but im going to try and keep it as clean as i can.
That looks amazing mate. Hats off to you ??

Thanks craig. Best start practicing on the polishing now!

Wow!
It's like a new car, what an incredible project and well worth it.

Yeah its looking good now i must admit. But as we all know Ben, these projects are never finished!

Amazing work, and the end product looks spot on.

Thanks Daz. Im happy with how it looks now.

I want to buy this car so badly

How much we talking.....

Thank you.

He'll be selling it soon then wanting to buy a 172 for 2k max

Im sure ive read that somewhere else...

Great work and love the attention to detail on the updates. Well done you.

Thanks bud. Also you are right..... silver was a great choice for the bullets. Im glad i did it that colour, looking at it now.

Fantastic Mark! Glad you got sorted with the plates too, that's terrible service from that other bunch of muppets!!

Mate, im so disappointed with them. Im going to send them another email but i expect nothing back. Such a shame as they come highly recommended. My new plates isnt as well made, but its correct in size and lettering so thats all that matters.
I just love non metallic paint without orange peel, it looks incredible!

It still has some peel. TBH we decided for it to not look like glass, as it wouldnt have left the factory like that. We didnt try and smooth out all the press marks from the doors as we wanted it looking OE like it would from the factory.

Your welcome to clean your interior over here mark and do some polishing, it’s better in a clean environment, be nice to see you both.

I know mate. Havent been up to the unit in ages. We need to hook up again soon but things have been so busy. We may have a moving date of around the 2nd week of october, so maybe we can arrange catching up around that time?

Few more bits done on the RB. Drove to work and did a few jobs. Was a nice autumn morning so i got a few pics while the road and farm was empty

44748514284_ba99c341e8_z.jpg

Then fitted the new renault sport badge. Its straight, and was marked out straight, but in some angles, it looks wonky. Must be where the boot is curved because its straight. Optical illusion!

Few pics leaving work

31598905458_95236fafd4_z.jpg

31598898738_a8bec50107_z.jpg

Sunday morning consisted of a few minor issues being fixed. When i locked the car, the boot wouldn't lock. A quick investigate turned out to be the catch not plugged in! Must have just missed that when it was all being refitted. Anyway, all plugged in and working as it should. Easy fix.

45473639971_08ac8bea00_z.jpg

Next up was the passenger door. When locked, then unlocked, it would stay locked unless it was open from the inside. I could hear the central locking motor working so i thought it would only be a simple fix. So off came all the door card again to investigate.

31598889668_d4c431716d_z.jpg

43656200090_06d0fc0dc4_z.jpg

After some investigation, it turned out the door pull rod wasn't sitting correctly on the clip (cant remember if was too high or too low) so it was recorrected. Once again, not a hard job. Took more time working out why, so another nice easy fix. Both doors and boot now lock, unlock, open and shut as they should.

43656195330_85545ebd7c_z.jpg

My interior light kept flicking. Turned out to be the bulb holder so i ordered a 2nd unit off ebay. Once arrived i fitted replaced the holder and now both bulbs work again. (Was the map one that was faulty)

Managed to get in contact with Speeline and ordered some genuine 2118 decals.

Took the car to work this weekend and spent a few hours on it. Gave it a clean for the 1st time since repainting.

Refitted my kick plates, using double sided moulding tape. Used the tape lines that i marked from where the old ones sat so i knew it was in the correct position.

31733459638_9232d77bc9_z.jpg

Then i decided to paint my sabelt lettering yellow again. What a pain in the arse job! Although its engraved, its not that deep so it was very hard to actually paint in the grooves, especially on the skinny parts of the lettering. Must have spent 1.5 - 2 hours on this. Got it good a few times then mucked it up on one letter, meaning i had to restart it again. Im happy with it now. Its not perfect, but very hard to get it so. I scraped off the over bits so its all yellow in the grooves now and not over the lines.

Then i got a few more pics seen as i had my camera with me.

Yep...

It's 1000% going to be in the 2019 CS calendar... Has to be

This car keeps getting better every single time and it's pulled together for one totally awesome finished article... well, we both know it will never be finished ;)

Well done fella :)

I'll be honest, I have submitted any yet? The one's I posted was more to fund out of they was worth submitting them, but I think I'll add them in tonight.

Yes Chris, it's never finished! Thanks for the kind words.

Yess little Bailey!!

Wow just Wow........ attention to detail is awesome

Thanks mate. There's always so much more to do though!

Gotta love a Staffie. Even if the owner dresses him up like Marty Mcfly ?

Oh yeah for sure. He's really well behaved considering it's on a farm with vehicles around etc.

Yeah I don't dress him so I can't be to blame. Cool dog though.

Cars looking cracking Dr J. Unreal.

PMSL

Thanks TEG.

Can't add much to what others have already said, car is a credit to your hard work and dedication. Congratulations.

Thanks mate. As said above, I still got more to go but so far it's looking good.

Cheers mate.

Looks unreal mate love it

Not much has happened. We finally got the keys to our place so i have been back and forth doing up the flat we have and that's taken a lot of time up. Rightly so really as that is priority. Will look into getting a garage for the RB though. But in between that time, ive fixed a few things on the RB.

First up, i tuned the heating on one day and i had no fans. Would press all the buttons and the panel lit up as it should but nothing would blow out. This just happened on the way to work but by the time i got to work, my car was really steamed up. I had no option but to have the windows down to demist it. Not the best thing at 7am and 1 degrees but i had no other option! So i needed to fix it asap. After a search and post on the facebook group, it was obvious that it was the heater resistor. Knowing that renault would not get the part to me for a good few days, i got one from euro car parts as it was a common part. Wasn't a lot of money and i could get it that day.

So after a quick search, it looked like an easy job and it was. Simple plug and play. Took apart the wipers and scuttle panel to gain access.

Removed the old one, which was a genuine renault item.

Then fitted the new one.

All panels and wipers refitted.

45324518094_d227ea96ac_z.jpg

So that was fine for a few weeks but then i noticed my temperature gauge playing up. I let it warm up before i left work as usual but on the way home, i noticed the temp needle was nearly at the bottom of the gauge and then it would fluctuate. Got home and search which some said it was the coolant temp sensor, but most saying that it was the thermostat. So with black friday deals on at euro car parts, i ordered a new thermostat, coolant temp sensor and coolant and decided to change the whole lot. So i took it to work sunday morning and set about doing it. The car hadn't been washed in over 3 weeks, done 600 miles (ish) and we had some crappy weather in that time so while it was at work, it was going to get washed!

Car was jacked up and the wheels was removed for washing.

45999016032_19f17a558b_z.jpg

Something else i planned to do was repaint my center caps as i wasn't happy with the white. The guys at work joked about the colour match after i was moaning that i couldn't find it for the white 2118s, and they joked about trying just "gloss white". Well that got me thinking, so i bought a can from halfords and while the wheels was off, i gave them a scuff up, and repainted them.

32177965988_72bcc06cdd_z.jpg

Got to say, that its very close. Im certainly happy enough to keep it that way! So after trying all these different whites, it turns out that gloss white does the trick!

Then i removed the bumper off and started the coolant change process. The hardest part was getting to the lower hose clip. I have some long, long nose pliers which i wouldn't have done it without, but i did read up that you can buy some bendy hose long nose pliers. This would have made life easier but hey ho.

32177964288_ca9037a606_z.jpg

Drained all the old coolant, removed the old thermostat and used a watering can (i was indoors) of water to flush out the system.

Comparison of old vs new. Old one was genuine renault part.

46049060881_8e11b90a3b_z.jpg

At this point i changed the temp sensor for the new one

Then i reattached the lower hose, fitted the new thermostat, opened up the bleed valve and fed in the new coolant until the system was full and then closed the bleed valve.

45137166865_7b6a60a9e3_z.jpg

Turned that car on, and did the fans on full/2.5k revs with some wood strategically placed!

45137163995_0898d90161_z.jpg

All worked as it should, until the fans kicked in. With everything all good, i was done for that job so i put the bumper back on.

45137160965_4428ff9e01_z.jpg

Then went outside and washed the wheels.

31110158037_58e1667ac6_z.jpg

With that all done, and my center caps all painted, lacquered and dry (used the booth to bake) i fitted them, fitted the wheels, lowered it off the stands and washed it.

45325662774_cfb1d57b44_z.jpg

Then seen as i had my little Fuji with me, i though id take a few snaps.

Then on the way to work on the monday morning, it was quite foggy so i saw this as another photo opportunity! (I cant help myself!) These are taking with my phone and aren't edited, only cropped. I love the first one in the road. As i was driving up, there was no-one in front or behind me so i quickly stopped, "angled" the RB, got out and got one shot and quickly got in. Was not even 10 secs but a car decided to come towards me so the quick, one take got captured perfectly with no one else on the road!

So it seems i haven't updated this in a good few months. I have done bits, but nothing major. To be honest, i've just been driving it a lot! I've taken pics along the way so ill update here.

So the car hit 130k back in january.

I bought a new gear gaiter (again) as my clips had broken. Such a cheap design but then again, the new gaiter was cheap also, so not a massive lost. No pics of this fitted as it looks exactly the same as before!

I made the final version of my show plates. These was done all in base colour and clear lacquer. These have come out fantastic and they seemed so popular that i decided to make a small batch which all sold! Most had the 3/4 front and some had full sized front and rear.

More pics of the plates fitted can be found here:

I wanted to get a bit more on top of my cleaning so i bought a few bits after i decided to buy a new car cleaning bag, seen as my trusty old fishing bag was worn out.

I then spent a few hours giving it a mini detail. I want to spend more time on it as its not perfect. This was due to my bad washing techniques i think.

Having done around 8k since the paintwork was done and driven it daily, all through the winter, i had some stone chips. To be expected and i knew that would happen, but i still wanted to touch them up. At least the big ones anyway. So i bought a cool little touch up pen as i had some leftover RB paint anyway. I did the front bumper, bonnet and wings in places.

I also repainted my engine bits again, gave the bay a clean up and fitted some new stainless bolts to replace the rusty old ones. I bought a kit off ebay for the engine bay but im unsure if its a bit too blingy. I'll keep them fitted for now.

I cut down and and used PU sealer for a bung where my rear washer would have been.

Lastly i gave the car a top up clean up ready for caffeine and machine

The gearbox is whining now so that may have to be replaced/reconditioned. I think im going to do a air con delete too as its never worked and i never use it. Will probably go down the cup set up route and do a aux belt change too. Thats all for now. Thanks for reading.

Always love looking for updates on this car, great work as always ?

Thanks mate.

Great photos there Mark. How's the paint holding up?

Pretty good bud. Few chips was had but i got a touch up pen. See above for pics.

Looking fantastic as ever.
The photo in the trees with the fog needs blowing up and putting on your wall.

Yeah i like that one. Guys at work thought i was mad when i told them, but i saw a small window of opportunity and took it!

Stunning example, makes me want to put 2118's on the Cup seeing this!

King of the 15" on the ph2's imo.

Awesome thread and car, you've put a lot of effort in the RB and it looks amazing. Keep up this up as it's good motivation for the rest of us! ?

Inspiring!!

Thanks for the kind words guys. Always good to read stuff like that!

Some awesome shots there! Great write up.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get that touch up pen from? I've ordered it twice but got cancelled twice as well because of no stock.. Need one for stone chips myself! Thanks!

As for the pen, I got it from Amazon last year. Think it was £9 from memory. If you cam get one, I'd highly recommend it. It's a very neat way of doing it, better than a small brush.

I forgot to add a few more pics of the touch ups.

Looking good Mark, will you be at csf this year?

Indeed i will be Paul. In fact, although delayed, we both bought our tickets this weekend just gone. Only going for the day though, no camping.

I've just bought some new glass buffing pads (flexipads rayon) and some ceriglass polish to try and clean up my front and rear screens. I'm not sure itll et did of the marks I made when I DA'd the boot before paint. Rookie mistake but we live and learn.

Are you applying lacquer too after the paint drops? I have a fair few stone chips itd be nice to fill. Seen people just use cocktail sticks before now

Thanks! I'll have a look on amazon again, maybe they're back in stock again, seen them for sale in the US but with import fees and postage they were a ridiculous price.

Yeah that's a cheap mod regarding the cocktail sticks as it's got a nice point. A good DIY way of doing so.

Yes I added lacquer on the big ones, the ones on lower part of the front bumper I didn't bother with.

Nice update Mark! Shame about the gearbox mate but it's no biggie. This is easily one of the nicest cars on here.

Thanks Craig for the positive words. I try and keep it well maintained and documented, along with some nice touches. Dont think ove gone too far with it, mods wise. I feel it looks tasteful.

Yeah I bet mate. I think I got lucky at the time as I'm sure it was a UK seller.

Just burned the last 2 nights at work reading this front to back.
Love the sheer amount of dedication and graft gone into this. Beautiful car and you've done a cracking job on it. The devil is in the detail of these things, and just love all the little details.

Ive just brought my old 182 back after a 4 year sabbatical in a Mini GP, Porsche Cayman R and a Fiesta ST.
The Clio was the one car I always regretted selling, now im in the process of trying to get it back to as mint as it was when I sold it.

Thanks for keeping such a superb thread, im in Essex too (Maldon), so hope to see it around one day :)

Thank you very much for the kind words mate. Knowing how you was with the scoob, those comments above come as a compliment.

Im keeping an eye on your project thread and look forward to seeing your updates too.

@Dr Jekyll Didn't you fancy putting on any PPF or ceramic coating after your fresh paint? Seems a bit of a shame your touching in stone chips :(
I did think about it but it is a costly process. For now its a used car so i expect it to get chips and im happy to touch them up. Its done 8k since the paintwork was done so these things happen. I didn't have the funds at the time to warrant the PPF.

So I bought some glass cleaner and attempted to polish out my scratches on the rear screen but they was too deep. So turned to the front to try and remove the wiper blade scuffs which are pretty visible (to me anyway) but didn't really have much luck. So now ill be on the hunt for a decent condition rear RB tailgate and what ill do is mask up the rear screen and areas and just paint the tailgate section. Means ill need to buy another 197 renault sport badge but ill be happy with that, if it means i get a decent rear screen. Ill also get the front screen replaced at some point but these are not yet. Not important or a priority atm.

Gave the car another was and snapped away! I cant help myself!

One thing ive been wanting to do for a while is remove the aircon. I never use it and im sure it doesn't work very well, if at all. It also tidies up the engine bay and makes belt changes cheaper. @renaultpartsdirect had a sale on so i ordered a new cup alternator and belt as i'll start getting bits to do the delete.

I also bought a genuine cat fitting kit as that was on offer too.

48191690287_240af252e0_z.jpg

Managed to find a seller on ebay that was willing to break a rear bumper for the surrounds so i bought a set as one of mine wasn't in the best condition. Also bought some new stainless steel exhaust clamps to replace the cheapos that i currently had.

48191710122_93aa9abd3a_z.jpg

48191712572_6ee6f39a37_z.jpg

I've had a tinny vibrating noise on the exhaust for ages and i've checked the exhaust when it's been jacked up and couldn't find the issue. I thought it was the baffles inside that may be shot as when i loosely touched the tailpipes, the rattle would disappear but let go and it was there. I go the car on the ramp to change the exhaust clamps and cat fitting kit and after leaving i running to check the whereabouts of the rattle, i finally found it! I had a small crack on the weld on the back of the back box. So happy i found it as this has been bugging me for what feels like months!

48191811287_84b683a7f9_z.jpg

So i removed the whole system so i could weld the back box and also fit the cat fitting kit. Found another crack on the centre silencer bracket but that made no annoying noise. I cut the old bracket off and made a stronger on and welded that on.

48191772066_6b1f3d264c_z.jpg

Then fitted the cat fitting kit and new clamps

The old setup, which did me ok for ages to be fair.

That was a few days before CSF so at least i didn't have a embarrassing rattle for the show! I gave it a good polish on thursday night after work and drove to work friday morning. As i parked up, i hit 135k!

48310456641_9859a1af0b_z.jpg

Then my wife Emily met me at work and we travelled up to Blyton together in the RB. Was a 3hr drive and we stayed in a Premier Inn in Scunthorpe (about 15mins away from Blyton) as we normally do. They also have a jet wash opposite at the local Morrisons so i gave the car a clean there. Used my buckets, mitts and shampoo and just used the lance.

48283970111_0ae09c516a_z.jpg

I parked up in the hotel car park and dried and QD'd the car and left. Woke up to find my helmet valve caps had been stolen. 1st thing i noticed and its so annoying. So i went over to the nearest halfords and bought some temp replacement standard ones.

48283988511_19782ea78a_z.jpg

48284087102_9d72bbf023_z.jpg

Went to CSF and had a great time. Both me and Emily did, as we always do. Was great to meet the usual suspects that i dont get to see often as well as some new faces! Got many compliments on the RB. Parked up next to @SiMunn lovely RB with white 2118s and i thought it made for cool pics. Of course i had to chuck my show plates on!

48283808101_63460a9a10_z.jpg

We didn't camp so before we left, myself, simon (above) and Charlie (Charliet_182_rb if you are on instagram) decided to get a trio snap. All cars was looking great so we thought it would make a cool shot!

48283911267_cc690a8570_z.jpg

And one just as i left. I really like this shot.

48283912377_390783219b_z.jpg

Cue this week and it was mot time. Well its another clean pass so that's a thumbs up from me! Had to get a snap of mine and Wills (painter at work) forged r26 as he was my mot taxi!

48309944221_85396fc79e_z.jpg

48309939131_c10afaabfb_z.jpg

So with that passed, i'll now concentrate on the air con delete setup, maybe look into a decent RB tailgate if its fairly local, getting the front screen looked at, look into a 2nd gearbox as a fix, while i possibly get mine rebuilt, and a few other things which escapes my mind. Oh and i've ordered a new set of helmet caps, and turns out Emily had done the same too so i'll now a spare set! All in all, its a positive post/update!
