Morning all,

Found the site last week and have spent the weekend hooked on all the information posted here.

I'm 25 and have only just passed my test, better late than never i guess

I own an '03 1.2 16V Expression, my insurance is sky-high as a new driver so this is all I could afford. It's a 5-door unfortunately, but it's a lot more practical.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have a heap of question to throw at you, mostly about (tasteful) modifications.

Everyone has to start somewhere fella, i'm stuill driving my first car which was an 01 1.2 Dynamique, that will soon change however when I find a nice Cup or Trophy.

The only thing I'm currently looking to do is find a pair of colour-coded wing mirrors to replace the black ones.

Can anyone here recommend any breakers yards, or anywhere online i could search?

As for alloys, it currently has the standard 15" Renault ones. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket alloys, so if I wanted a set of 16"s in the same design, is there anywhere other than Renault I could try?

I think the 16'' 182 Alloys would look really good..

im 25 aswell dude just passed my test i went straight for the 182 hehe, coodnt hack anything else as for insuring its just money aint it ? heheh

I had one of them in a 3 door model. Mine was a 02 plate 1.2 16v expression in nautical blue.

Only thing to watch out for is the bonnet catch, eventually it will seize up in the open position. If you are mechanically minded, maybe check it out and grease it up whilst you can. Ive had to call the AA a few times as its stuck on me.

Your best bet is to keep the car standard for a few years until you get some ncb behind you. Everyone had to start driving one day. The clio is group insurance 3, so its pretty cheap to insure anyway.

You could reduce your insurance premium by adding on a parents, or partner that is old or has been driving longer.

Im 26, 5yrs ncb, no accidents, bike license since 98, car since 00. I drive a clio 182 and insurance would of been £530 ish full comp with £150excess. Added mum & ex partner, and it brough it down to about £430.

Times have changed, and the ex-partner is nolonge around this area, but is still insured incase i see her one day again.. Mum drives the car too, id say she is more likely to crash it than me.

The mirror backs come off, im sure you can get them painted, or buy some new backs from renault and get them painted.

Alloy wheels will push your insurance up sky high if not as standard.

This therefore if you have not declared them on the insurance as not being standard then you could be in for a bum ride in the future. The expression was built with 14" steel wheels, with the plastic wheel trims. The dynamique was the car that had the 15" renault wheels as standard. I doubt someone would of purchased the car with the optional extra of alloys. It would be very hard to check this out, or to prove that they were not fitted from build.

My bet would be the car dealer fitted them..

I personally wouldn't modify a 5 door either, it just doesn't suit it.

If you can't bare to save up for your next car, perhaps colour code the black bits and lower it slightly. Some 172 wheels would be a subtle upgrade too.

Oops, thanks for letting me know this! I assumed they were standard when bought new, and therefore haven't mentioned them to Tesco Insurance. I am the third owner of this car.

I'll call them this week and see what happens. Thanks again!
