k-tech 200bhp Clio

I just enquired about tuning my 172 CUP (with k-tech). This is what they said..

"a full exhaust, induction kit, headwork and remap should see you up to around 195-200 bhp. This will cost around £2000 in all and take the 0-100 time down to around 14-15 secs."

Does this seem feasible?

It seems very optimistic. They are obviously hoping for a lot from the headwork. The other mods have all been done by people on here with nowhere near 200bhp.

  172, Tiguan

Depends on the headwork and remap though.

Sound slightly optimistic, but at least k - tec will prove themselves as opposed to LAD.

Sounds a bit laddy

yep id say that LAD have given them the estimated power gains with this one, maybe 190, possibly 195 maximum, but 200 will not be broken easily

well header, race-cat, full 65mm exhaust, new type inlet used in 182 version, headwork (bigger valves), good induction and good ecu will deff. bring you around 195 Bhp trust me. Well € 1400 is realy not too much actualy !!

but this is only when done properly of course I dont know the work of them.

Cheers

The problem lies in the inlet manifold, this is where the majority of the gain will come from and the reason nobody has touched 200bhp. The head is fine as such, and more than ok for over 200bhp

larger inlet valves, the std ones are soddigly large for a 2ltr 16V, more than enough flow scope for 300-320bhp.

200bhp is not impossible nor hard running the std (abiet modified) plenham and TB)

Guys, please read the post it says 195-200 not over 200bhp. We are still testing at the moment. I should have also added the sports cat in the quote and price as well. There are many 172/Cups running around 185bhp with an exhaust, viper and remap so I dont think 10-15bhp is optimistic from headwork and a sports cat. We will not quote a definate gain until we have confirmed results.

fair play to k tec for coming on here and talking openly and honestly about it. Can you see LAD doing that? I think not! Im sure K Tec will give a totally honest estimation when its all tested.

I think some of you guys are being a little hard on the LAD conversion. First up they have been in business for 20+ odd years so they must be doing something right..... The conversion is good enough for a franchised Renault dealer to sell bolted to there brand new cups....says a lot ... As for performance figures how many tuning companys can guarantee that a 200bhp kit will actualy give you 200bhp none I expect because every car is different.

Is there anyone one here who has had this conversion done.

dont think so. trouble is they wont say wot they do to the car to get the claimed 200bhp.

credit to k-tec for doin that!

Ye, im not gonna go out and spend that amount of money on work to my car without actually knowing whats gonna be done, that and the fact their car made a slower 0-60 run than a standard 172.

At least with ktec you can see where the gains are gonna come from.

While I cant comment on whether or not the LAD conversion is acctualy running 200bhp all I will say is for a Renault dealer to sell its product gives me a bit more piece of mind that its going to be 100% reliable.

As for _KDF comment on it making a slower 0-60 time than standard 172 if you read the CCC magazines article carefully it says that the 0-60 dash was hampered by wheelspin and even cherped its tyres in 3rd!

Remember power is nothing without traction!

Ive owned my 172 for two and a half years and Ive had no probs with my dealership.....but its still under warranty though.

My Cup does 0-96 in 14.9 seconds anyway?

with the Rsport & Greenfilter 1 want 14.5 with a bit more practice.

ref your question abouty lad andyman there was a member/forum user who had it done and posted on here, he had no end of problems with it and after getting frustrated with lad took it to hillpower to get it sorted, think their were issues with an oil leak or the breather system after lad had got their hands on it

The dealer dont say the warently is still valid for the modified parts though do they.

Cheers for that reply 172loony

Still cant believe how a main Reno dealer would take it on if it was that problematic........could have been a one off.....always thought it was the over exagerated performance figures that let LAD down not the workmanship or parts.

edde

Would have thought if your buying a brand new cup (from a dealer)for the claimed price of £14945 with the full LAD kit on the whole job lot should be covered under warranty..... in any case wouldnt head work etc on any new car invalidate the standard cars warranty?

One casual mistake dosent instantly turn them into a s**** company.

Companys that con people, do shoddy work etc generally dont last 26years especially in the car industry!

Andyman are you liked with they there seems to be users appearing all the time questioning are distrust at LAD work.

Cliosport asked them if they would like to turn up to one RR they agreed if we paid there £700 costs they wanted. We didnt pay, so there not very keen to keep showing of there product is capable for 200hp.

My question about the warently is that they dont have to sell a car with a full warently. Im sure they do warently for £14k but claiming 200hp is also the quesionable bit.

The dealers have to get some sort of warently protection from somewhere but who exactly Id question would LAD warently a new cars parts which Renault doesnt cover if so they they would sell . here normal kit with the warently portection whcih many peopel would like.

LAD have done well for years but it doesnt mean that they arnt giving us the full truth about power gains. In a business when there the company with the biggest gains get the business LAD claim the most and get the business because of it. They would do even better if they could prove it all the time even if they didnt tell us now they got it I dont think Cliosport members would care if they could keep proving the gains.

Just bought a Cup with factory 200Bhp factory upgrade, car cost £14700 to purchase when new from Ireland.Anyone else know if Renault actually do upgrades as i will be checking this out when i get my documents back fron DVLA.

Constructive....

200CUP - I think what Tom is trying to say is that there is no 200bhp upgrade available from the factory. Unless youve arranged it via someone you know in Renault (like TonyKart), then I think someone is pulling your leg. Who has told you that you can buy a 200bhp factory upgrade for a Cup???

i thought LAD did their (claimed) 200bhp conversion that was sold at some of the main dealers. Isnt this what everyone has been discussing in previous posts?

200CUP, best thing you can do is get your car rolling roaded somewhere and see what it is actually putting out.

Car was purchased from the independant motor specialist in Reading (BMW specialist ) and advertised as factory upgrade,i think the ad is still running on autotrader. When i receive my paperwork from DVLA as the car was under an Irish logbook i will be contacting the Renault dealer and previous owner to find out who did the work as the ad was misleading if not true.
