MK1 2.0 16v Turbo

  raw striker
just thought id pop in here and say you have done a very nice job on that:) should be a good laugh when its done :)

only minor point i would probably make is i cant see any brace from the turbo to the block. if there isnt one id really recomend you fit one or that manifold will crack in no time with all that weight hanging off it. :(

yeah no bracing, not really sure what to do now. its been playing my mind recently as my mate had a glanza with a SS mani and was for ever cracking. :dapprove:

just get a couple of small rose joints from rs and a small length of threaded bar. must be somewhere on the turbo housing you can brace from. most even have a little lug that you can drill and tap. doesnt need to be anything fancy, just needs to be enough to take the weight when the manifold is glowing red hot and tends not to be very stong. if there rnt any lugs on there to tap then just pick up off the compressor housing bolts with some flat plate and do it that way :)

ah cheers for the tip, deffo something i'll be looking at when fiting my downpipe this week

  Renault Clio 16v
got the 'universal' down pipe for my turbo, looked like this when i got it

As it only cost £120 i had no second thoughts about cutting it into pieces :D

First cut was to make a turbo elbow, immitating alot of turbo exhuast systems such as R5 etc

Then cut it again to get a good position in the engine bay and mig weld tacked it (will be getting all joins tig'd professionally as my weld looks like pigeon s**t lol)

Here shows it on the turbo ( from above )

I've ordered a pair of these flanges to mate the down pipe & elbow together

Waiting on a length of pipe now to complete the downpipe but have cut and tacked the down pipe to an almost 90 degree angle as opposed to its 45 ish angle

Why change the colour? Its lush.Best colour for a mk1 Imo. Good work. Whats the reason for modifying the downpipe?

  Renault Clio 16v
cheers, the reason is because there is no way it would have fitted as its a universal one. and the oonly off the shelf one you can buy is a t28 fitment, plus where i have a custom manifold there was no chance a pre-fab one would fit. plus i the bore on this one is 2.5'' which is possibly bigger than the bbpt etc one

  Renault Clio 16v
Well, kinda gave up on the elbow idea cos the flanges i bought wont weld on they keep falling off lol. So d/pipe is going to be 1 peice.

And i've gotten this far lol

looks like a wonderfully smooth flowing pipe. Where do you source your pipe sections? jetex?
MOT going to be one of the non-straight variety then? ;)

  Renault Clio 16v
nah it was ebay lol only needed the one section that you can see is different ( not polished but same grade stainless ), its going to mate to a standard CAT so mot complient , hopefully haha! once i get the pipe TIG'g up i'll make up the waste gate port, dont really fancy a screamer pipe.

Bloody fantastic job so far matey... just sat an read through as much as I could, but im pretty darn knackered though tbh lol!! Do have a soft spot for the old valvers, and this is simply astonishing!! Out of interest (if you dont mind me askin) what sort of price range would we be talking for such a re-build, minus the n2o, piping etc?

  Renault Clio 16v
engine alone was a shade over 2800, but that includes no ancillaries or manifolds. nothing lol.

it came like this when it was delivered

is that what you wanted to know ?

  172//Crap Micra//Bus
f**k, not cheap... bit less than expected tho tbh, and by the look of it... worth every b*****d penny, and then some... its a truely fantastic example. Some nice fabrication going on by the looks of it too! Any ideas yet for when itll be right to take out for a run in?!

  Renault Clio 16v
hope fully before the end of november, not got alot of cash atm and going to san francisco for 3 weeks mid september working  but i dont want to run it over winter so unless a miracle happens i might leave it till next year :(

I'd get a better downpipe adaptor made up. That one won't flow well at all. I had this made up at a local machine shop for my skyline turbo.

It was the fact its flat against the turbo on the wastegate side.

  Renault Clio 16v
that hole is only used on an internal wastegate though, where ive got the external i was told to block the hole or it wont boost as effeciently becasue the exhaust gases will by pass the turbine

Ahhh sorry i didn't know you were going for an external one?

What size injectors are you using?

  ValverInBits
325?? are you not going to want to go a bit bigger? 325 will max out at about 250bhp wont they?
get 440 :)

  Golf R soon...

I would love to have your knowledge on cars as I am useless! lol
