My 182 Track Car Project

Haha it's definitely on the list of things to buy and want lol
Haha sounds like a good plan to me mate if it makes it go round the track slower I will sell it to you for a good price haha

Sweet. The boy racer in me wants one. When the weather cheers up we should get a day at Bedford booked.

Haha and me mate love the big wings and look at the positives you will have somewhere to put your food when you are on track days :)
100% mate that sounds great to me, be nice to have a better look at your car and maybe have a few laps :o

Hi all,
I hope everyone had a great Christmas and looking forward to the new year just thought I would show you these T-shirts my dad got me for Christmas I think they are awesome what do we all think to them ? I haven't seen them before :)

And as it's Christmas here's my Christmas dinner haha

The gravy went on after the picture before people think I am odd
Merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year

Just a small update got some new shiny bits for the car and also did some cleaning of the suspension.
Stripped the B14s down and made sure everything was deseized and cleaned correctly. After Bedford the suspension has dirt and muck in them so a good clean was required before Bedford again on the 4th March :)
Few pictures of the suspension

I also got myself some PMS solid top mounts and PMS strut brace, such a nice bit of kit I am really impressed with the quality and the fit. All I had to do is grind a bit out the suspension turret because the hole was not perfectly round for some reason not sure if anyone else has had this ? But all is sorted now :)

I had to do exactly the same when I fitted my pms set up, massive improvement over standard top mounts though aren't they :)

Great looking car too by the way

At least I am not the only one lol I don't know why the standard holes are egg shaped or at least mine were
I haven't driven it yet I am itching to get it back out I need to do the alignment first it will be out the next couple of weeks :)
Cheers mate I appreciate that :)

I have just joined the club and about to build my own track car (182). This thread is really helpful - especially with the list of kit you fitted. I am seriously impressed!

If you were to suggest a budget to get to similar spec as yours, (obviously excluding most labour costs), what range do you think it would be?

Thanks!

Welcome :)
Thank you I have tried to make it as helpful as possible with lots of pictures
I would say you are looking at a price point with the car between maybe £8000-£10,000 (I can not remember how much I have spent) but it can be done a lot cheaper depends how far you want to go
I am sure other people can offer there opinions on pricing as well :)

Little update nothing crazy this time.
Running a new set up on the car this year I am running -3 degrees camber and 1mm toe out on the front see how that goes :)
Also I have got myself some gold reflective heat tap/stickers to have under the bonnet and in the back of the car to cover the holes where the rear seat bolts used to be, looks smart :) here's a picture

Sorry for the bad pictures
Also treated myself to some wheel wax for the new wheels which hopefully will come Wednesday
The wax I use is spot on I have been told
IMG_1471.webp

Also lastly I have got myself some new wheel bags so transporting the new wheels will be clean and easy I didn't get a picture though sorry.
New wheels next week and then Saturday 4th March I will be at Bedford for a track day :) I will keep you all updated
Cheers everyone I hope you are still enjoying the thread

Another update :)
I managed to get the wheels and tyres just before the track day. I have bought custom painted 15" team dynamics, spec are- 7j all round front ET is 20 and the rear is ET 35 and the tyres are 195/50/15s and they are A048s

Saturday track day update
We went to Bedford to do the GT circuit layout for the first outing of the car for 2017. A group of use decided to go myself my dad my mate his dad and another friend with a blue 172 cup and we met @chris-foci and Dave when we got there.
Cars were
My 182
My dads Z4M
My mates MK7 Golf GTI
My mates dad's GT3
And finally a 172 cup
It was touch and go with the weather but it came through in the end having a full day of dry weather. First off I managed to trap my finger in the car door which wasn't a great start (perfect racing driver excuse) haha  got there and straight away got the new wheels on
Pictures-

Ignore the door colour haha

Bit of a group shot. Love how the wheels have come out really finishes the car off well.
The car handled super all day and not putting a foot wrong, the tyres and set up have really transformed the car and was keeping up with much more powerful cars and was good fun racing my mate
I can not wait for the next track day I love this car
Only time the car let me down was me trying to brake wayyyyyy to late and had to use the escape road but that was me more than the car whoops
We had a great day
Final picture of the group before we left for home

Hopefully some more mods to come soon :)

Did the car feel any different running with the et20 on the front? Any rubbing ?

Well I used to run the standard 16s with a spacer so the track width is still the same but for me it feels much better than standard and it looks better in my opinion, also I had to clear the coil over because I am running -3 degrees and standard et the tyre would rub on the coil over
I had no rubbing all day they were fine my 16s used to rub under hard cornering in the inner arch but these don't

I'm genuinely amazed as you've altered the scrub radius massively mate!

Small update I have finally managed to get the doors to match the rest of the car this has been bugging me since fitting them. Now I can take pictures of the car with confidence it's looks good :)
Some pictures
IMG_1508.webp

You can see the poor colour match before we start
IMG_1509.webp

The prep work shows the problems under the paint a lot of orange peel causing the colour to change
Now with some fresh paint
IMG_1510.webp

Just having a think now what to modify next @Sam Linssner the spoiler is coming at some point lol ;)

Great job matching the paint on the doors. How do you find the white interior? I like the look of it but have been warned that its hard to keep clean.

Yes! Have you thought about the mounts on the fiberglass tailgate? That's what is putting me off at the moment as fiberglass parts and getting close on the list.

Personally I haven't found it too bad I run rubber floor mats (you know the anti slip mats you find in a tool box) which helps massively I do fancy the carbon fibre floor trays you can get on eBay. If the floor is painted right with a good layer of lacquer it just wipes clean with a wet rag, it's just keeping on top of it. I would defiantly have a floor mat of some kind

Well I have spoken to BYC themselves and he runs a fibreglass boot and he runs the big wing and all he does is run bigger spreader plates on the back to spread the load and he has had no problems but I know what you mean
But I think I am going to go for it :)

Nothing since I updated my thread. Letting the bank account recover.
Fair play mate I don't blame you mines been used a lot lately as well just not on the car unfortunately :(
Plus the cars off to the Nurburgring in august so I need to get the car ready for that as well :)

Nothing really exciting has been happening on the car lately just been enjoying driving it but it has however had a new clutch I wasn't happy with the last one it felt like it was starting to slip and the release bearing had seen better days so a new one was purchased :) I went with the standard Valeo clutch because I have heard good things about them.
Some pictures of the job we decided to take the rad out, front panel, bumper, bonnet, subframe, the rack off the subframe to save messing around with that
I am glad I took the rad out the anti freeze had gone dirty with black bits in there so that was flushed through and fresh stuff put in

Health and safety box ticked with the jack on the engine haha (yes it has a soft pad so it wouldn't damage the sump)
IMG_1582.webp

Something missing here
IMG_1583.webp

Success!!!!!!!!!
IMG_1584.webp

And the new clutches fitted

More playing to come :)
