My New Steed: Trophy #321

Are solid mounts a must with the RS2 aucky?

Some people say no, just dog.
At the time Tom Thumb wouldn't sell them without for liability reasons, but I got a decent discount on the package at the time anyway.

In hindsight, if I'd known how good they are I'd have bout them anyway. You can try my gearshift some day

Or the gearstick is mounted in pea and ham soup. No.1 issue to be fixed.

Cheers welshy. Just hope the colour comes up well! I see Luke's old one and can only hope!

Nope and we'll kindly keep that chat out of here hair boy! ;)

It really isn't that bad it's only due to there cars I drive it feels frustratingly poor.

I've been driving a 55' sport KA with 25k on the clock and the gearbox is just superb. Yanoo has got back to me, fingers crossed it's what I need. :)

With your mileage it shouldn't be an issue anyway.

Every time I step into the ford connect van at work I'm like 'blimey, I feel like Loeb in here'.

Renault's biggest Achilles heel, until the new Nissan engine!

It's just had a lower engine mount. Most of this is alien to me.

How many mounts are there ffs! ;)

I have no interest in making it harsher!

OEM, factor or Powerflex?

Upper engine, upper gearbox, and the stabilisation 'dog bone' mount.

The dogbone takes a lot of the flack so people stiffen up by updating that.

I did the complete opposite (because rs2)

Missed out gearbox to subframe but no one ever upgrades that one.

Dogbone doesn't make it harsher ime, just more controlled.

All mounts depends on who puts them in IMO some people complain of Richter scale 12 cabin vibrations. Those people put them in wrong.

Excellent. Oe one fitted mate. As was everything else. I think he liked the Renault garage looking at the receipts!

Probably check tomorrow and see what type the exhaust is. I have a plan.

If its OE and new I'd probably just leave it as is for a good while then, they've got a good few thousand miles in them!

And agreed Aucky, Daves iceberg has them and they dont vibrate at all but they are noticeably stiffer and I think that would upset Gallys sensitive nature.

I suppose it's good practise to use the uprated ones then. I remember how little your engine was moving on the RR day compared to everyone else's cars. Huge difference!

I may have to take you up on that offer too :) I'd really like to get my hands on a RS2 at some point later on in the year.

Hence the confusion! The 10% one sounds about right.

Are these easy to fit or is it a job for mechanic/specialist to do.

I believe they come with instructions... I won't be fitting mine.

I might just go base then mate.

146 posts and the floppy haired f**ker hasn't even posted a picture he's taken yet. FFS!

Make sure you go poweflex on the dogbone mount Kev, it's the only one worth doing IMO. I'd go with a full set of stiff mounts if it were purely a weekend/track car, as vibrations and the like don't matter, but not for you.

I have to say I'm with you on the 'box, especially after coming from a Puma/FRP, which has one of the nicest gearboxes I've used. The Clio's is far too baulky and obstructive. Good purchase though :)

I'm going for Dan/'topher's P2P record without actually posting a picture. ;)

I don't want to make it harsh so solid mounts etc aren't for me. The road where I stay are shocking mate, hence me having to give up the Frp. The Trophy rides much much better whilst still being solid. Impressive stuff.

Indeed mate, i've been a bit spoiled by gearboxes so the Trophy was funny, i'll get it tightened up with some small mods and get the car to suit me.

Understand your not wanting to make it harsh, when you fit the dogbone mount you may get a little more vibration coming through on idle, but after about 300 miles it settles down and you can't tell it's fitted.

Difference is when (more like if with you) you're hooning it around some lanes, the GB won't be rocking all over the place knocking on anything in site.

It's nearly overtaken my 3.5 year old project thread :/

Excellent. One less thing. Didn't think there was much movement.

On another note these AD08s are stunningly good even in the damp. Although credit to the car also for not straining them in the corner they still handle and traction very well. A dry day should be fun.

Maybe August/September time up here!

Its well worth polybushing the dogbone, makes the change that little better, i had slight vibration for about a week before it went or i stopped noticing..

I want to give some of them tyres a go when i get chance... Ment to be great in the dry!

What model did you go for mate? I was just going for 1.0.

Err don't think there were different ones when I got mine a while ago was just a "stiff shift"

I would change your knob at the same time I got a nice Richbrook one and made the install much easier and also feels lots better to use.
