My New VXR (Holden content)

So.....things haven’t gone that according to plan with the vxr8.

I was driving it the week after I bought it in a spirited fashion and all of a sudden it went into limp mode. I did the classic fix of switching it on and off a couple of Times and it came out of limp mode but still had the check engine light on. Had the aa man out and he came up with a fault code which could mean a number of things but he cleaned out the mass air, reset the fault and all seemed good in the world.

Drove it for another week and went to overtake some and low and behold - we’re back in limp mode. Didn’t bother with the AA this time and just drove it home. At this time my indicator started flashing it’s tits off as if a bulb had gone. Unfortunately the bulb hadn’t gone!

Now the problem with the Vauxhall’s vxr8 is that Vauxhall’s don’t know how to fix it and there’s limited specialists in the uk. My closest specialist just happens to be 2 hours away in Chester!

I drove the car over to them and they have had a good look over and I’m having a fair bit of work done including;

Drop links
Alignment
New leds in the lights
New transponder thing for the leds
Some torque bush thing for the propshaft
Cleaning the throttle body and map sensor and resetting all the pins
A new key
s**t loads of labour

All in all its costing me best part of £900 so not the best start to ownership.

Needless to say I’ve had to sack of the exhaust to pay for it so doubly gutting.

How come they're just cleaning the sensors and not replacing them?

Usually when a MAF starts to go you just bin it, because you know it'll be dead soon enough.

This tbh. You can clean them when they're not fucked and they may last longer but once they "going" cleaning them does f all normally.

It has a MAP sensor and a MAF sensor? That seems rather excessive.

Really? It's not uncommon.

The code it brought up was an issue with the air flow into the engine so could have been a number of issues. Apparently, it’s not uncommon for the wiring to deteriorate on these due to the quality Australian workmanship.

They’ve had it a week and put it through it’s paces and there have been no further issues so I’m hoping it’s sorted.

I’ve taken some additional aa cover out just in case!!

I can’t afford the full exhaust so I’ve bought some shiny back boxes to cheer myself up.

My mates one had decays and a Wortec exhaust and sounded absolutely brutal.

I actually made a small child cry when I was showing off with it once thinking I was cool. I was not cool and her Dad definitely wanted to hurt me.

As someone has said, I detest Vauxhalls, they’re absolute s**t. But these are beyond cool. Love them!

I feel your pain, I had a £1500 bill a few weeks after I bought the M3 that I hadn't planned for.

Cars back and I’m £900 lighter but seems to be ok now - hopefully! Back boxes were collected on the parcel force 24hr service on Monday and still haven’t arrived. Will hopefully turn up Monday!

The breakdown issue I had has ruined the experience for me. I don’t think it’ll sell as they’re quite a niche vehicle but we shall see.

The exhaust turned up today so a bit of extra noise might change my mind.
