Uhm, how long did you have to wait till they were dry and ready to go?

good luck on the front bearings, you need a full hub... rear bearings are easy... but fronts are expensive...

its do able on a drive :) just get a hub puller as its a b**ch otherwise lol.

Rear Wheel bearings = What a day!

Snapped 2 1/2" extensions, and broke a 1/2" breaker bar within 5 minutes of owning it (Halfords Pro, when they going gets tough, they break).

So anyway, N/S/R hub nut is still on and tight. O/S/R freed off no worries, so I cracked on getting that all off...

Hub Assembly pulled off driveshaft.

Bearing puller & 32mm socket utilised in a nice controlled (LOL) rig.

Close up of it coming off.

28102010193.jpg

Leaves me with the inner race stuck on, will have to get a garage to pull that off for me.

Exposed balls from the inner race being stuck on.

Hub assembly is down at the local garage waiting to have the inner race removed and the new bearing pressed on. Guy said it might take them 30 minutes, I thought Christ, if I had the right gear I could do it in 5 minutes

Anyway, started to resecure the CV boot, then as I cleaned it all up I noticed a crack in the outer casing. So driveshaft is off...

It's a good job I like this car, cost me about 30% of it's value now getting it back to how it was pre smash lol.

holy s**t! im jealous i never did that lol! thats impressive they are f**king strong!!!

Off side fixed. Had a test drive, can't hear any noise from the near side. Going to leave that one for now, and I'll use a windy gun to crack the hub nut off. Easier that way.

New bearing & driveshaft on (yes, the seal on the brake piston is fucked, not massively fussed as they'll get replaced before the MOT)

30102010199.jpg

All built up, torqued up (did that with it on wheels) and split pin on.

30102010200.jpg

Heatwrap from the downpipe, due to having spent a lot of time going into a friend's estate with speedbumps recently, the exhaust has been catching due to the mount sagging. SO it's torn the heatwrap off. Oh well, not wrapping it again.

Getting sick of this car now.

Got it all aligned a week ago (another £120), been wonderful. Went out last night, and it started toeing left again. I thought maybe I've got a flat coming on, so I've checked the pressures, all OK. So Jacked it up, caster arms are the same length and so are the track rods. Have a quick look at the rear (no point measuring as the subframe isn't quite 100%) and nothing is loose. So **** knows, all I know is it's more money on alignment. Might have to find somewhere other than North Eastern, as it's getting a bit silly now.

What else is wrong with it... New thermostat 3 months ago - ****ed. I can give it a lick of right foot and the coolant temperature gauge creeps down to cold running temperatures, then creeps back up when going steady.
Exhaust - Still leaking, can't be bothered to start that as I fear the manifold to head flange isn't flat.

Basically, it's becoming a right heap. Wish I'd bought a better one to start with.

205 GTi's are epic. :dapprove:

Bad luck mate. Keep it up though, you'll have a new car soon, at this rate. ;)

I'd pay a fortune to find one that hasn't rotted away anyway. Then I'd curse every day I owned it due to it being made by socialist cheese eating fuckpigs.

I might just bite the bullet, get a loan and get one of the many other Jap cars on my list soon. Been a waste of money but hey, you're only young once.

Thing is, to me anyway, after owning a RWD driving FWD sucks. N/A tuning sucks compared to Forced Induction. And I don't think I'll ever own a French car if I can help it.

I've a decent list to go at of cars I could realistically own in the next 10 years or so;
Mazda FC/FD RX7, Mitsubishi Evo 3-6, Nissan R32 Skyline (Want a GTR and RB26, but also tempted RWD), Toyota Chaser JZX90/100, Toyota Supra (Manual), Nissan Silvia PS13 (basically an older version of mine), Toyota Celica GT-4, Vauxhall VXR-8/ Holden Monaro (Supercharged would be epic).

  Astra SRI/ Hornet
im going rwd next. started saving for a e36 m3 3.0 as its more reliable with cheaper parts and insurance. wanted 1 for a long time. nearly swapped my 172cup for 1 but wrote it off didnt i. sound awesome aswell.
