Next... Clio V6 or White DC5?

  Octavia VRS
would have to be DC5 for me Chris. Ali puts up some good points, especially about having to get 'overnight parts from Japan' (as Jesse would say on F&F ;)) if you needed them. And I'd knew he would say about them being common in Aberdeen!

However, with the dealings I've had with Renault over the past, I wouldn't trust any local dealers with a V6 if it needed new parts either!

If you get to know a good Jap specialist who is local to you then that would help regarding servicing the DC5.

Come on, join the VTEC side!

I seriously thought about gettin a DC5 before the Vee! I think they look the nuts

Not driven a DC5 but my mates old DC2 is still one of the best cars I have ever driven!

He owned a mk1 & mk2 Vee & still rates the teg as the best car he has ever owned.

If I were going for the DC5 I would get an 04/54 as they are pre facelift, not too sure about the lights on the face lifted model.

I think which ever car u choose out of the two u won’t be disappointed!!!

U could always spray the DC5 Acid Yellow ;)

He doesnt live on Freshwater Close does he???

there would never be another colour i'd want other than championship white.

i'm glad someone had the same decision to make as i have... what made you go for the Vee after all Chris? ...other than it being the best colour EVER.

i quite like the facelifted DC5 tbh, but even if i prefered the older car i'd still buy a newer model for obvious reasons

  Mk4 .:R32
imo you should buy a v6 and keep it for 6-12 months in colour that won't lose much if any value like liquid yellow, lunar etc. Then sell it for a DC5 which is a more sensible and practical option, but still awesome.

i'm not sure, i'd put about 10k on a V6 in that time. so unless i bought a sub-10k mile car i would definitely lose money. :(

plus, i hate changing cars, even more than i love owning them. lol

Gutted :( a DC5 is still a nice step up from a 182 though, even though yours is a lovely example

the DC5, V6 and VX220T and exige were the choices i narrowed my next car down to.. Exige was stright out, too expensive, and couldnt insure it.

I liked the V6 for the noise, the looks, the attention i would imagine it would get.. downside was its was just another clio really, same crap build quality, similar interior (fair enough i had a cup ;))

DC5 - would have been in white for me, plus the looks, build quality, performance.. but wasnt too keen on the fact it was an import, price of parts etc..

So i went for the VX (not saying you should) purely because its rarer than either of them, faster, more tunable, and maybe more practical :rasp:

Though choice between the two though, Ali's V6 sounds immense!

As people have said, it is more down to what you want from a car. I have never driven a V6 so can't comment there, but love every minute I spend driving the DC5. I have driven quite a few cars, but this is by far the best driving experience. As someone said I think a V6 is more like one of those cars you just need to own before you die, I don't think it is a real drivers car but for looks and attention from other people there is little that will come close. But the DC5 also gets quite a bit of attention from people who are in the know about cars. I have seen people stop and take pictures etc of the car.

As for mpg I average about 28-30 doing mainly motorway driving (50 mile round trip a day to work). But thats also letting the car travel all of the way up to 8.5/9k revs daily. This is something that has to be done daily as detailed in the terms and conditions when buying a DC5 ;)

Servicing is not too much of an issue. I took mine to a specialist down south for my first service. It was a major service with new rear pads and it cost just over £200. Having just checked you are supposedly only 6.2 miles from System R who are another specialist and come highly recommended by other owners. I can't see how the parts thing will be an issue, unless you are going to be crashing regularly and need new panels. Most dealers or specialists have the majority of the parts readily available or can get them easy enough, a lot are shared with the EP3 any way.

My car is now standard apart from being lowered, but at one time was running about 260bhp by the previous owner. Good power gains can be had from not too much money. Something which is not the case for a 1*2 or V6.

As said, it all depends what you want from a car. A good driving experience (not that a V6 will be bad) from quite a good looking car. Or a better looking car that will draw the crowds but not be quite as good / fun to drive. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of the V6 and was considering getting one myself. But I do not regret my decision one bit!

Yes, they are the same seats as the DC2 and are some of the most comfortable seats I have sat in.

It depends on the car really and how it has been looked after. My car is a 51 plate and the bolster is not too bad at all! If you are looking at a facelift model and you look after it yourself I don't think you will have any problems.

www.capitalseating.co.uk or something like that has everything you need to repair / replace the bolster. But like I said they are not too bad assuming looked after.

aye, it would be a facelift 55 plate ideally with around 20k on it. that's good news about the seats, i've seen some JDM DC2's and the bolster is completely fooked. lol

thanks for the info!

You have to remember most DC2's are 8+ years old now though. So that'll be why. But mine is 6 years old and is fine.

To be honest I don't think you will regret choosing either car as both will be great to own!

i agree.

are there any things i need to check if i buy a fresh import?

SVA cert? radio working etc?

also, was the facelift just cosmetic or are there any mechanical changes?

thanks

  DC5
If you buy from a reputable importer then everything like the SVA certificate / fog light etc will be sorted. You can also buy FM expanders for the radio which allows you to get a few more UK stations.

200bhpcars comes highly recommended from everyone that has ever dealt with them. Get yourself over to www.itr-dc5.com and have a look. The blokes name is Andy (I think) but goes under the username 200bhpcars. They have always got quite a few cars coming over and are very well priced.

I think there were a few small mechanical changes, but the majority is just cosmetic and it all comes down to which you prefer looks wise. I personally prefer the looks of the pre-facelift.

stop thinking about jap cars and get a Meggy. Wheres the loyality. ROFL

Seriously tho, the DC5 is a stunning car, 10 times better than the previous one imo. Wouldnt be a bad choice.

Just dont pull up next to a V6 otherwise you might regret it, boy they look good!

Get on ITR-DC5 lots of info.

You'll want a BIMTA Certificate, etc etc

There was defo revised suspension on the face lift, and probably some other minor changes.

Still think the preface lift looks much nicer though.

And parts aren't a big a problem as some people say, standard parts are located in Belgium, your local Honda garage can supply all of these easily.

Chris...make a road trip to carlisle...i'll show you all these vee haters are wrong!

Ive not driven a DC5...and if its anything like as much fun as my old 172 cup was..it must be a great car..but...you can just jump in...rag the tits off it till 13000,000 RPM and v-tec yo!! arrive at your destination....get out..

fun...for about 6 months!

Get a vee..its something you grow with...you learn...and when you do get used to it...boy is it damn good! its quite scary how fast it can cover b-roads when you know the car, and trust it! Plus..you get the looks, the fact that your driving a humble clio WITH A HUGE V6 BEHIND YOUR HEAD singing away...not some buzzy jap 4 pot!

seriously dude...if your not doing anything on saturday...i'll meet up with you somewhere?!
