Absolutely LOVE this! Perfect Ph1 and awesome choice of mods. I want it :dapprove:

Thanks mate!

Mean's a lot coming from a Trophy owner :rasp:

If we combined mine and his, we'd have a car-gasm.

When I get my f1's and spacers on, I'll be winning ;)

The ph1 lights should have a bulb holder thing just like the ph2's!!!

Haha yes!
Wouldbe pretty awesome.
If you get spacers and F1's, and I do a dash and interior conversion, we might as well have the same car anyway tbh!

Ill have to think of something that you haven't done, and keep it a secret ;)

Bugger. The looms came with the lights and I just assumed they plugged in.

Can I use the bulb holder from the PH2 lights? I cannot imagine them being too different....

Also, another update.

Bought a litre of Tardis yesterday to clear all of the tar within my arches, and I have bought a can of underseal, and an underseal gun for a compressor to spray it with!

Should all be here for the weekend so I can crack on! Will update as the week progresses!

Those weird "things" you've got might work.

Give it a go, they just look like a bulb holder substitute, but I can't remember if the hand screw goes into the light or the bulb holder

You can 100% not use ph2 holders in ph1 lights though.

LOL @ having the same car, lucky you live a distance away ;)

But really, we're just doing the best mods, can't be helped.

Unfortunately they dont work mate :(.
They nowhere near fit, so I don't know why the seller gave me them to be honest. Now I need to source some bulb holders.. Grr!

I tried the PH2 holder and it in no way fits. Bugger :(.

Haha rather lucky indeed ;)

Cannot argue indeed! I just need to catch up with the dash and get some new coils ;)

Did this earlier on, in the pissing rain as you can clearly see..

Thoughts? Which looks better?

I'm thinking PH1, I like the all red. Like my old 106 GTi rear lights!

Looking good pal, Ph2 lights ftw...

What did you buy on the previous page? Can't see the pics

eta: I see ph1 lights.

When I fitted the phase 2 rear lights to mine it did transform the rear end, made it look so much fresher in the same way fitting the phase 2 bump strips and colour coded door handles did on the sides.

Having said all of that I am thinking about re fitting the lights and black bump strips

Ph2 lights and tint the circle red? Someone else on here did can't remember who.

Too much effort ;)

haha you need a Ph2 bumper aswell to hide the stealth :dapprove:

I know.. It hangs slightly too low for the PH1 bumper :dapprove:

Refer to your other post ;).

Haha, I am in exactly the same boat!
I like the look. But I fancy the change!
Undecided as yet, but I am not selling the PH1 lights just yet!

Actually, think I prefer the Ph1 lights now I can see the pics bud..

Good man. These were my thoughts. But as stated above. Still very, very undecided!

Ph1>ph2

Ph2 lights remind me of lexarse jobbies

Ha!
I have never seen the similarity, but I do prefer the all red look of the PH1 lights..

I am very very tempted!
I would trial fit them as it is such an easy job, but I do not have bulb holders for the PH1 lights :(

Haha fair!
If you have them I am more than willing to pay for postage etc!
I tried the PH2 holder, but the bulbs didn't go in the holes either, they were slightly too far apart!

If you could have a look mate, that would be great of you :)

Right, updatings from today!

I have been wanting to fit my rear spacers and camber shims for a while now, and having left work at 12:30, this allowed me ample time to do so!

These were the home-made spacers and the camber shims from Ktec racing. These will be adjusting the car 14mm in total track and 0.5 of a degree.

img2011062400257.jpg

img2011062400258.jpg

And here is how the car sat before either of these modifications were fitted:

img2011062400259.jpg

img2011062400260.jpg

On a side note, I have been collecting these goodies this week:

img2011062400261.jpg

img2011062400262.jpg

A litre of Tardis, sn underseal spray gun, and a can of underseal. You will see where these come into play a little later ;).

So, with some pictures out of the way, I got cracking with working on the car.
Jacked and ready to go!

img2011062400263.jpg

img2011062400264.jpg

Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the work being done, I only have afters.

So the following pictures are after the spacer and shim were fitted. I also tidied the area up substancially, removing any rust and Hammeriting it in satin black.

img2011062400265.jpg

The spacer and camber shim painted up:

img2011062400266.jpg

Apologies for the poor pictures

The next task for this side, was to tidy the arches up. Yep, this is where the numerous new items come into play.

I set about Tardising the arches to remove the copious amount of tar that had accumulated within them.

You can see where I have started the process.

Unfortunately, I have no other pictures of this being done :(

img2011062400267.jpg

The spray gun ready to go!

img2011062400268.jpg

Having never done this before, I was very skeptical as to how it would materialise.

Not a bad effort if I say so myself!

Got a very good converage, sprayed everything I could within the arch, and it came out very well!

img2011062400269.jpg

img2011062400272.jpg

Time to move on to the drivers side!

Before any work commenced:

img2011062400270.jpg

Unfortunately, I also have few pictures of any work being done on this side as well, just fitted spacer and shim:

img2011062400277.jpg

img2011062400278.jpg

I also got cracking with de-tarring and re-coating the drivers side arch.
Again, a distinct lack of pictures for this. I didn't fancy getting the phone covered in s**te!

img2011062400273.jpg

img2011062400274.jpg

And the finished article!

img2011062400279.jpg

img2011062400280.jpg

Please ignore the ride heights, these were literally taken as the car was coming off of the jack.

Happy with the results! Could probably have used the 10mm spacers for a bit more poke, but the 7mm ones still look good.

Not something I fancy doing again though, so these will probably stay.

Went out for a quick drive and absolutely no rubbing or anything

Result!

The 10mm spacers will be up for sale soon as I will not be requiring them!

Next on the list is still a full geo setup, oil and filter change and full brake bleed!

Oh, and obviously a huge tidy up of the front arches! :)

Thanks for reading

Few updates from today!

If you wind back a few posts, you will see I was experimenting with putting PH1 lights back on the car.

This has caused a few problems ever since.
See, the wiring from whoever changed the lights to PH2 units, well, lets just say it wasn't the best I had ever seen:

img2011062600286.jpg

So ever since I put the PH2 cluster back on, I have been having some weird problems with it.
Indicator coming on when I brake, brake light coming on when I indicate etc etc.

Obviously this isn't good enough! So I set about putting it right.

I removed both clusers to make sure they were both ok, which strangely enough, the passenger side was perfect..

img2011062600288.jpg

So I slapped it back in:

img2011062600291.jpg

I firstly removed the wires from the connector block.
This meant removing the oodles of Selotape from the wires. (Yes, not even electrical tape was used).

img2011062600287.jpg

I then removed the little "L" shaped connectors from the connector block. (Harder job than it looks :p)

img2011062600289.jpg

And using the wiring guide from the good old Guides section on here (sorry I cannot remember who made it, but credit to you!), I set about connecting it back up correctly.

img2011062600290.jpg

Firstly, the wires would need soldering back onto the little "L" shaped connectors, as all of them had somehow snapped off, hence the reason for the tape in the first place I guess!

So after a bit of handy work with the soldering iron, I was left with this:

img2011062600292.jpg

And eventually this:

img2011062600293.jpg

The reason I say eventually, is because it was a very hard job pushing the L connectors back into the block with the extra solder on them. The L shaped connectors were slightly larger due to the solder, and this made it absolute hell putting them back into the block.

But after a struggle, 3 screwdrivers and a pair of pliers later, I had this:

img2011062600294.jpg

Swiftly followed by this:

img2011062600295.jpg

After a quick test, everything seems to be working fine, and the connector block no longer needed Selotape to keep the wires in, result!

Now time to relax.

I pulled my phase 1 lights from ebay, think I am going to put them back on along with the original side strips. Can always change them again later

Ahh I don't know what to dooooo!
Think I am going to keep the PH2 lights, and sell the PH1's back on unfortunately!

Going to be doing some more arch spraying and tidying on the weekend.
Possibly do the oil change as well!

I have also just bought the following:

Mist washer jets. I had these fitted to my 106 GTi and they were awesome, I have literally just remembered they existed, so thought I need another set!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320381377004&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

A brand new rear wiper, as mine has started to fall to bits!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250726175265&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

And a touch up pen kit! I have been after a Titanium silver one for a while, but haven't been able to find one, luckily, I found this guy.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280557304572&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Hopefully that lot will turn up before the weekend and give me something to do!

I have also started to look into changing the clutch.
I have started having some strange symptoms which seem clutch related, so I may be changing the clutch, release bearing, crank seal and clutch cable in the not too distant future!

Thats all for now!

Good work mate, nice job on the lights wiring. It's always nice to do little jobs like that properly.

Nice little selection of bits to tidy things up there too. :)

BTW what I forgot to say in that PM, is how amazing my car is with this new clutch, the biggest differences being how easy it is to press and how amazingly smoothly you can downchange, it's insane!

Ha, thanks mate!

Not sure if its just my car, but only the drivers side foglight works.. (rear obviously)

Is this normal? There was no power going through the bulbholder, or the wire as we had a multimeter on it.

Since recieving that PM from your great self, I have pretty much decided that I will take on the challenge of the clutch, thanks.. ;)

Shouldn't be too bad. Will stop the juddering etc (I hope), and then into Ktec for geo setup etc, lovely stuff!

Might even drive quite well after I have had this work done :rasp:
