No compromise Supercharged ek9 progress thread

  Charged Superleggera
Yup £75 mate. Spoon stuff always has crazy price tags. The spoon gear knob on its own is around £80, tein bonnet dampers were £125 and the list goes on. Its all these small(and admittedly expensive) things that make the difference imo. If money was going to get in the way then i wouldnt have started this thread as it would end up being just like any other build.

  Charged Superleggera
Out of interest how are you finding the BC's?

Havent fitted them yet mate. Ever since starting uni i have been completely swamped and my next holiday is Christmas so looks like they will be fitted then unless i can free myself for a weekend. My mate just fitted his today though and he has been playing about with the dampening all day and says he is very happy with them but when i go back to dundee i will get him to take me out in it and see what they are like.

Be interesting to hear another opinion on them, not sure what order I'll start changing things although my build will be very slow in comparison to yours thanks to my budget lol

Yeh defo. everyone that has them seems to rate them highly. Usually wheels and coilovers are what people start changing first but all depends on the person really. Have you looked at any yet?

Very nice but...

I'd just like to echo this, seventy-five english pounds for some bloody wiper blades!!! I'd want them to fit themselves for that much!

cheers mate. haha not the cheapest wiper blades you can buy and i dont think they are gonna fit themselves unfortunatly lol. Although for that sort of money you could probably pay for a normal set and pay for someone to come to your door and fit them for you and still have some money left over lol.

I viewed one but felt it was a bit rough around the edges, Christopher viewed another for me which was just up the road from him (2 hour drive from mine) as he's as anal as me, it was mint but sadly the lad took a deposit on it before I got the Clio sold and funds together.

Wait a minute...

nice project btw.

Aye there are loads out there that are rough so you need to be careful. These cars do take abuse quite well tbh as long as they are properly maintained. one of things to look out for is the that the synchros in good nick and that the the gearbox oil gets changed regularly. are you on ek9.org btw?

Yeah I'm over on there, one I drove was at an import specialist, scuffed rear bumper, fag burns in the fabric, wandered at speed (could have just been tracking but the panel gaps on the front corner didn't look consistent which is not something you expect on a Honda) final nail in the coffin was the fact there was a wisp of oil smoke from the dipstick area after I test drove it. That car was allegedly a 4B graded car!

A lot of respect for you for this epic project.

Hopefully one day I'm lucky enough to own an example such as this!

yeh ek9.org has a wealth of info and its a good place to look for an ek9 as you can find out alot about it just by asking forum members. The one you just describes sounds abit dodgy, and believe me their are loads of them about so your best not to rush into anything until you find the right one mate. Take it your still after a facelift model then?

Love reading the updates mate!

Love the opulence of the wiper blades aswell! :)

Why are people getting hung up on the wiper blades? They add about the same power to the car as most "essential" CS mods, and they don't get questioned.

Loving the dedication mate. It looks superb!!

Yeah still after a facelift, just prefer the front end on them to the 97/98 models. Despite currently not having a car I'm not going to jump on the first car. If it's not right I won't buy it. Worst case I'll buy a £200 shed to see the winter out and start looking again in the spring. From what I can see aside from the box issues you've described there's not much in the way of common faults. Makes life easier as it's just a case of doing the usual mechanical and bodywork checks rather than having a checklist of characteristic issues to look for.

Sport Wiper Brade: Next Centuly Special Stage!

lol chris well spotted. Was worried that they might not have been original but a quick search, and a pic taken from the spoon type one headquarters in Japan confirmed they were. Have no idea why the poor spelling but must be an english-japanese thing lol.

you know your jdm when your stuff has random engrish written on it! i dont get peoples problems with the wipers either lol... people will happily pay 50 quid for piaa wipers lol but a bit more for spoon ones lol

Don't want to bang on about the wiper blades, but im pretty sure they are just Spoon badged and made by someone else. As with a lot of Spoon stuff, K20 'Spoon' rocker covers for example.
Anyway 75 quid is quite cheap, I paid 40 for blades on the mrs Puma.

  Mondeo TXS Bardge.
i can remeber pricing a set of 307 SW wipers once at my work, came out at £98, thats was just the front ones, according to Pug they are only fitted to that specific model and only pug make them. I tried autoparts etcs and priced the valeo ones, and they were about £75 at trade. Actually come to think of it the ford wipers arent exactly cheap, iirc they are 27.90 each plus vat.

yeh your right mate they are not made by spoon and are just re branded by Spoon. As you said mate alot of spoon stuff is just rebranded eg desmond regamasters, momo tuner steering wheel and even parts of the spoon strocker kit contains oem honda parts.

thats pretty expensive for oem blades tbh. Cant remember how much i paid for the clio wipers but they were under £25 for the fronts.

Great work! :approve: attention to detail to great, it's all the small bits that make a car stand out from the rest, what honda forms you signed up to?

Update:

Progress has been pretty slow over the last few months primarily because of lack of time but i have managed to take a few weekends off to get the wheels rolling again. car has been off the road now for nearly 3 months and miss not being able to drive it :( still at least gives me some time to work on it over the winter months, which is something i enjoy nearly as much as driving it.

Got my NRG quick lock holder through from funky power along with the revised skunk 2 lower control arm bushes.

Side by side comparison. The after market momo one has a much nicer feel to it and feels less bulky. its also obviously lighter as it has no airbag

After thinking about it for months i finally decided to buy a hid kit. The ek9 headlights are piss poor at best and on some occasions the poor lighting they offer has been pretty dangerous so i have decided that i want to try hid's out. i loved the xenons i had in the clio so looking forward to fitting these.

Also ordered a few bits from honda a few weeks ago:

Genuine facelift rear lights. i wired up the fogs into the right hand side tailight for neatness as i didnt like the look of the bodged rear fog that was on before.

also ordered some genuine spoon stickers, which arrived this week. not sure if i want to fit all of them now as i like the clean look and im thinking now that too many stickers on the exterior might look abit cluttered but might stick them on just for the Nurburgring trip in the summer.

When i undersealed the car in the summer i was never really satisfied with the job on the underside of the car using a brush as it was difficult to get to the tiny spaces with a brush so i bought some waxoyl and a high pressure sprayer to spray it on with instead. Will hopefully have access to a ramp during the Christmas holidays so i can get it done properly.

Photo2983.jpg

A couple of random fuses needed replaced so picked some up from halfrauds.

Photo2984.jpg

Fitted the spoon wipers aswell but wasnt happy with the condition of the actual wiper arm as the paint was flaking off it so i removed the whole arm on both sides and resprayed them satin black (closest to oem colour) and they came out nicely.

was kind of getting bored of the gear extension and heavy weighted ek9 gear knob so i decided it was time to fit the spoon one. Other than looking nice, its made from hollow titanium, making it silly light, which gives gear changes more feel because you dont have the throw of the weighted stock ek9 one. made a small difference but was noticeable.

Also picked up a genuine spoon b pipe off cartney, which needed abit of tidying up. The baffles were needing replaces as bits of it were smashed up in the silencer but instead of rebaffeling the silencer i will either getting the silencer taken out completely or just get the baffles removed. Looking forward to fitting this and the decat, which should make for an interesting noise lol

The b pipe was not in too bad a condition but i wanted to get it cleaned up and polished to bring it back to its former glory.

Then let it drain for a while and took it inside to get cracking on with the polishing.

used the 3 stage polishing get i got in the summer and After about 3 hours i got through about 2/3 of it and decided to do the rest at a later date. had inhaled enough polish dust for one day. It came out nicely as you can see the difference between the lower 1/3(unpolished) and upper 2/3(polished)

I was going to order some arb drop links from honda but was advised by a mate who works at the honda branch in edinburgh not to buy honda ones as they tend to fail and i was best going with an aftermarket set. so thats what i did and it also worked out alot cheaper so cant complain.

Been looking to upgrade my front brakes for some time now and when these came up for sale i snapped them up immediatly. They are only about 1 month old so are as good as new and even off the car they look stunning imo. The anodised blue colour really does set them off. Going to be using yellow stuff pads with them and got a set of hel braided lines on order so once they arrive i will get them fitted. Although costing a fortune to buy, you save a decent amount of money in the long term as you can use oem pads and discs with spoon calipers. Will also rebuild the rear calipers when i come to fit these as the left one is sticking slightly and obviously bleed the brakes when its all back on the car.

Also got my 5mm spacers as you need extra clearance to fit the spoon calipers

Photo3112.jpg

As good as they were i decided it was time to part with the standard ek9 recaros for something more special and with abit more support so bit the bullet and bought a recaro spg pro racer seat. This seat feels awesome to sit in and certainly does hold you in place. Im not sure if i want a seat in the passenger side but think that might be abit unsociable on a road legal car lol so i will probably replace it with a recaro of some sort. Wont be anything as hardcore as the recaro pro racer that i got for the drivers side but more along the lines of a red recaro from a jdm ep3 or dc5. Also ordered a recaro aluminium side mount for the spg which should be here early next week.

never understood the fascination with ek9's. but now i understand. That car is awesome !

loving the attention to detail on everything. imo that's what makes a good modified car, well done sir.

also loving those recaros aswell

Cracking read as ever and some quality mods going on there. Wish I had the budget for a project like this, look forward to reading future updates. :approve:
