Opinions wanted please.182 Cup to Williams

I own a 182 Cup in RB with 20k on the clock.It just coming up to 3 years old and to be honest l can't fault it.

However,l really do like the idea of having a Williams (l have owned several 205 1.9 gtis and totally loved them but always knew the Williams was better) but it would have to be mint....and l mean mint...unmarked,low mileage and with history.

What do you think...and how much should l expect to get for my Cup?

It an 05 plate...3 years this month

Be prepared to be shocked at the value of your car. Somewhere between 7k and 8k would be what most people will be looking to pay for a car of that age. Most stealers would try for less. Dealers are selling them for less than 8.5k now.

i have thought about buy a willams as a 2nd car, are they really that good and how different would it be next to 182?

next to a 182, id say slightly quicker to a ton, maybe have around the same, maybe bit lower top end. get to the twisties tho, the 182 wont see the williams for dust.



unless its a trophy of course iv struggled with a couple of these in the past.but then i havent had road legal slicks on. which do help things.

I think 90% of willies woud loose to a 182 just because there so old.You cant judge 1 good williams with the rest of the cars out there

Thats why l would only consider one which was in very good condition...as mint as possible.Of course if its getting on for 60k on the clock then there might be a few items needed.

Well if it has been well looked after there is no reason why it shouldnt be that quick.

You dont see people with 182s on 60 whinging that there not that quick or slower than they once were. Take for example mark cups, cup. Thats on a fair few miles but still quick. Mine is on 90 and still feels as quick as when i bought it. The oil pressure is also excellent.

I also think if you want all these things from a williams you are going to have to get your cheque book out or lower your demands. I think you need to go in one or have a drive before you get your heart set on it.

I havent driven a Mk2 RS but all i can say is that despite wanting a newer car i love mine too much to sell it. I think that says it all really.

I wouldnt bother.

Its an old car, things will go wrong. Stick with the 182 or upgrade to a 197.

i have 2, and have owned another 1 that would all give the outcome above.


iv also driven countless others which would give the same outcome.



mileage doesnt seem to really bother the f7s if their well looked after. by that i dont mean never driven, i.e low mileage. id much rather trust a 90-100k engine than a 30-40 tbh. especially as you say, with the age of the engines involved.

Tbh i have raced a few Rs's and i havent beaten them.

I have raced a 172cup which was pretty much the same. Was hard to tell as he started off behind be and stayed there to a ton. Started a couple of car lenghts back and it didnt seem to change.

I also raced a 182 cup and that pulled a car length from 30 to 85 id say.

In 2nd i lost a bit but seemed to pull a little back in 3rd.

Certainly not quicker though.

It's not the best financial decision you'll ever make - just 3 years old and a massive depreciation hit. At least you know full the history of your car.

I must admit I've been thinking about selling my 182 cup (also 3 years old)for a while and replacing it with something older and more raw, but at the end of the day it's just not a sensible decision - I'd stand to loose too much £££ - especially as the 182 is perfectly capable, quick and fun.

I totally agree with that.I paid 10k for my Cup two years ago with only 9k on the clock.

I guess for once l have to let the bank manager in my head rule over this one....and lets face it...the 182 Cup is just fantastic
