Paint question - Vandals sprayed gf car!!!

Got a question guys, some little dickheads have sprayed over my girlfriends car bonnet and doors with red spray paint. Is there an easy way to remove this without damaging the original paint work?
Suggested using a soft cloth soaked in a little petrol to try and lift the red paint off, and it shouldn't damage the lacquer or paint underneath. Can anyone help?
Car if it matters is a mk6 ford escort.

She's really upset by it as she only recently got the car and it was absolutely immaculate. Some people have no respect.

It's a possibility. Decent cutting pad, and compound, and the paint should lift off. It won't key to the clear coat like it would with primer.

If its rattle can paint, just put thinners direct to to it on a cloth, will come off easy and assuming your car is 2 Pack lacquered it wont touch the lacquer, just dont go bathing the car in the stuff. Then you can buff it off afterwards if theres some wiping residue.

Thanks for the tips guys, relaying them on to her as we're currently not on the same island. so livid about this!!! Absolutely beautiful example of an escort is a delicious deep blue..and they've wrecked the paintwork on it. It didn't even have SINGLE scratch in the lacquer.
Really hoping she can get the paint off with some petrol/thinners and any left over buffed off...

Thinners should do it, rattle cans are nothing special.

Maybe its a sign thiugh to get a nicer car -.- Escorts are gross and look cheap

+1 for thinners/white spirit/turps

I got gloss off a jag bonnet with it, with some elbow grease.

So she'd reported it to her insurance company, the people who tagged it got caught in the act by the police, insurance have said if she forwards them a copy of the police report, they'll pay for a respray, with zero excess due to her insurance history.
I could do with a policy like that!!

She wants it painted hot pink :( Heavens above.

Thanks everyone for your tips on how to get the paint out. She has someone who's going to try to get the paint off and if it cant be done or damages the original paint, it'll get sprayed.
She said some of the panels have been scraped/gouged too, so it might need repainted after all.

Look forward to seeing her renewal price.

Why did she feel like telling the insurance? Spray paint comes off in minutes.

I know, I tried to tell her not to report it to her insurance, you can lead a horse to water. That said, her insurance is different - she's out in the states now so i'm assuming it's slightly different in its workings. Her premium is currently < $100 a month or something.

I think she just wants the paintwork fully restored and this is ample opportunity, the car cost her like £3k, '01 and has done 15k miles, full history, it's worth the investment to her i guess.

What's also to consider, yes the police caught them in the act, but likely they'll get a warning or something, the possibility of it happening again could be quite high expeciously after a nice new respray.

if it does happen again maybe worth a small rental of a garage if there's one nearby, or if parked on driveway etc... then maybe a cctv camera covering the driveway or micro camera hidden in the car etc...

hopefully it doesnt happen again, but i'd have plans just incase.
