ph1 172 white dials in my RB 182

Not as simple as you might think, but I got there in the end and am very pleased with the results! :approve:

Began by removing the dash, a simple job really following Fubar's guide (thanks Dan :))...

Oh and took the opportunity whilst it was in bits to colour code my dial surround.... ;)

Really dont know why they dropped these for the phase 2

Lol, lockwoods look crap hence why I opted for the 'difficult' route ;)

Don't understand why Renault dropped them on the ph2 either, such a subtle difference but worth it none the less :)

Clearly looks very nice.

Two questions:

Have you changed the warning light arrangements?

Have you got the needles back in the right places.

Wondered when you'd pop along Jamie ;)

Yes, the warning light arrangements differ quite considerably so I had to butcher the required symbols from various dial sets - hopefully you can't tell.

The needles are back in the correct place yes, I took pictures of each of the needles positions before I began stripping it down.

Ha, yeah. I'm not sure when I'll actually get round to doing mine.

Tbh, I don't even know by looking if the warning lights are right or wrong - ha! Think they look very good though. Maybe you could help with mine ;)

You have quite a margin for error (I found) when cutting them so you'd really have to spoon it up to notice.

Job well done, no wonder you were asking.

Yeah the centre section is easy - large margin for error, however the warning lights that go up both sides of the dials are wrong too -not such a large margin for error!

The shift light is in a completely different position as are a few others.

Will give you a hand if you need it mate, just bear in mind I used two dial sets from 1.2's and the one from the ph1 172 to make the correct arrangement on mine. This leaves my OE 182 dials intact should I ever wish to revert back.

Yeah, I got some 172 Cup dials - hence my blue trim so all the lights match mine and like you will leave my originals untouched.

i also looked at the possibility of the plasma version but, i would only use the white dail insert and not wire them in, then have a renault sport logo made up to stick on the dial, think that would look ok.

Any pics of the plasma dials Carl? Any links etc?

The white ones I fitted are 172 ph1 dials that I sourced from eBay Rich. The warning lights are the main problem as the arrangements differ between the ph1 and ph2 172/182.

cool, cool, i will probs get some lockwoods n cover the lockwood with reno sport, or cliosport whichever takes my fancy at the time lol.

The only issue i'd have with this is that it c***s up the milage recording and can make the car look dodgy to future owners.

I do prefare the ph1 dials though, looks good.

No it doesn't, the mileage is held on the circuit board memory - I haven't changed that, just the actual fascia is changed. The mileage is present and correct. :)

Thanks for the comments guys :approve:

Mike - I had yeah mate, but having thought about it some more I decided to give it a go.
