Renaultsport Clio 200 Question...

S2H

  RS Clio 200
Ok so someone wrote off my Fiesta in a high speed head on collision and looking at black 200's. Found 2 I like, they are both full fat with recaros but one has the cup chassis and one doesn't. The one without has nicer gloss black wheels. I'm torn. Can you guys please give me your opinions on the 200 cup chassis. Is it really necessary, is it too firm? Would I notice the difference? Obviously it would be best to test them but being 80miles away in opposite directions doesn't help. Any help in making a decision would be appreciated. Thanks.

<----- EDIT: It still says I have a clio 1.2 from 6 years ago! ha.

Red Calipers, anthracite Wheels, stiffer and lower suspension, quicker steering rack, thicker arb's

Easier to add the speedlines to the one with a cup pack.

I didn't have cup pack on my 200 and I didn't have trouble selling it. If it's never going to see a track then you don't need the cup pack.

Or you could be like the rest of the sheep on here and insist it needs cup packs.

Thanks guys, has anyone got a side on picture comparison to show the ride height difference?

THIS. I have cup pack but for daily driving its a little overkill, still so much fun even though its a little bumpy :D

Ok so i'm getting the feeling that seeing as i'm probably going to spend very little if at all on the track and use it as my daily commuter I should not bother with the cup pack?
What about the quick steering is there much noticeable difference there?

Not unless your previous car was a cup packed 200 then i don`t think you will. I would say your best bet is to try and drive both. I know you said they are far apart but if you are close to me you are more than welcome to have a spin in mine.

I spend no time whatsoever on the track, but I have to say, the Cup chassis is a no-brainer and a whole lot better to have than a set of 'shiny' wheels (which, as someone has already pointed out can be added at any time).
If you plan to drive the car on fast sweeping country roads, then the Cup chassis will come into its own and is the perfect complement to the Recaros.
I had the Cup on my 197 and now on my 200 and personally I feel it's indispensable.
At the end of the day, you pays your money, you takes your choice.

U'v got to think of resale value aswell!

Cup chassis is a must for me, i wouldnt even bother looking at one without, potential buyers for urs when you come to sell may think the same!

  FF Clio 200 Cup
I've got a black 200 ff with cup chassis and its amazing, living in the West Country the roads are terrible but it drives like its on rails on country roads! I would say drive both an see what you think. Where are you?

  Fiesta ST200
Cup pack is a must mate. I had a pearl white 200 with cup pack. Awesome on the road and animalistic on the track. Really confidence inspiring with the cup chassis.

Maybe also worth noting that I said I didn't have cup pack but I did fit KW V1's the day I bought it so didn't see the point in specing cup pack from new ;).

To give you both sides of the 'argument'...I've done over 20k road miles and 4 trackdays in my non-cupped 200 and have never ever once even slightly felt that I needed something firmer beneath me.

I came from 120k miles in a 172 Cup so thought I might miss the 'sharpness'...but I truly don't...even when running track rubber.

Most that dismiss the non Cup haven't had an opportunity to really push it (or have even driven one at all)...but the CS massive says Cup packs are a must and you get red calipers so they must be right eh?

On track they're not night and day different as most would have you believe either...I've passed many a Cup suspended 200/197 in mine.

As for country roads...I cover 50 miles each day over minor A and B roads...and I'd never be able to attack them in a Cup because the poor surface would have me skipping sideways. My non-Cup devours them.

In short, only you can decide and if it bothers you that much you really do need to drive one on the 'softer' standard setup. I think you'll be surprised.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
If you go with a non cup pack car you get silver wheels- which look awful- especially on black-

I dont think anyone specced speedlines on non cup pack cars-

Ideal base spec-
Recaros , cup chassis, Speedlines.

Worst base spec.

non cup pack, Non recaros, Anthricite pack.

Of course you're going to say that (like referring to my spec being poverty)...you only buy/sell cup packed, recaro specced, speedline wheel shod cars so have a vested interest in pushing what you sell.

It's all opinion anyway, the op needs to try the different options and then decide for himself rather than be preached to about the absolute must haves ad infinitum.

really? I love the Anth packs.

i made sure to go all out and get a car with every option (bar spoiler, which I'm going to fit eventually) ticked. It you're going to pay so much for a car, you may aswell get one with all the toys. That's my reasoning anyway :)

Is there a definitive way of telling if one has a cup or not? For example that second picture, how can you tell it's not just a non cup pack with red calipers selected as a stand alone option which is on the options list?

Red calipers and it will have anthracite wheels insteal of plain silver.

They could be painted Anth and red...

the only way to tell that I know of is to check the colours on the springs

iirc, cup is orange and blue on the front and orange on the rear

Standard is blue all round. There's a guide on 197.net

But what if someone has fitted cup springs.... ;)

General guide is red calipers and anth wheels unless they are speedlines.

With regards to the caliper it will be hard to get a factory finish so should be quite obvious if they have been painted.

Mark- Its only supply & demand.....-

What would most people want-

this

or
this

A fairly easy choice for 'most' looking for a 200.

Agreed, there's no question at all if the sole buying criteria were looks. The op was asking if the suspension mattered to the way they drive...which it doesn't really. If it did, why do so many spec the cup pack then change the springs/dampers to get lows/stance? If the cup packs are that good, people would stick with it!

Red calipers wasn't a stand alone option if I recall correctly, they only came as part of the cup suspension pack.

Hmmm...does appear so which is odd...didn't think it was. Although that shows as a zero cost option...since when have Renault done anything for free? I think that should have a '1.' next to it as it's part of the cup pack.

genuine question... Isn't there more to the cup chassis than springs? And would cup dampers fit standard suspension?

they don't on the 1*2s do they?

Ive not had mine that long and to be honest wasnt sure if it was a cup or not , as its got the recaros inside , and speedlines , even though the renault garage rep insisted it was a cup as he had had a few of the previously ( i guess he would say that anyway ), and it can be a bit of a bone rattler on these tiny a roads in north wales as its solid on the road.......anyway this is mine.....my baby clio.jpg

  CLIO RS 200
Cheers for that , well if this doesnt have the cup suspension , i dont think my body could take it haha , ive had a few old rally mk1 mk2 escorts , and even this feels to be more of a shaker , or maybe its me getting on in years ;)

dealers are absolutley clueless.

It's a 200 non cup and it does not have the cup pack as an extra.

Cup's had black door stips and proper cheap interior, no cruise etc.

You could get the non cup which has a nicer steering wheel, cruise controll etc and then add the cup pack as an option for £400 ish.
